Tubulointerstitial nephritis with uveitis syndrome is a rare, immune-mediated entity, characterized by oculo-renal inflammation. Diagnosis requires the exclusion of all other causes of tubulointerstitial nephritis (TIN). We present 6 patients with clinical, laboratory, and renal biopsy findings denotative of tubulointerstitial nephritis with uveitis syndrome.

The clinical range of post-coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) symptoms in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) has not yet been thoroughly characterized, with the exception of a few small case studies. The aim of the present study was to investigate the motor and non-motor progression of patients with PD (PWP) and post-COVID-19 syndrome (PCS) at baseline and at 6 months after infection with COVID-19. A cross-sectional prospective study of 38 PWP+/PCS+ and 20 PWP+/PCS- matched for age, sex and disease duration was conducted.

Cancer immunotherapy is a treatment modality that aims to stimulate the anti-tumor immunity of the host to elicit favorable clinical outcomes. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) gained traction due to the lasting effects and better tolerance in patients carrying solid tumors in comparison to conventional treatment. However, a significant portion of patients may present primary or acquired resistance (non-responders), and thus, they may have limited therapeutic outcomes.

The purpose of this study is to report a case in which standard medication protocols for postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) led to adverse effects and insufficient results. The dead end that occurred in association with the patient's deteriorating general condition and hesitation to comply with oral medication due to fear led to the application of transdermal buprenorphine (TDB) after written informed consent was obtained. TDB application in acute cases is still under study, and the literature is limited.

Hippo pathway with its main molecule YAP is a crucial pathway for development, tissue homeostasis, wound healing, tissue regeneration, and cancer. In this review, we discuss the multiple effects of the YAP/Hippo pathway in the immune system and cancer. We analyzed a series of effects: extracellular vesicles enhanced immunity through inhibition of LATS1/2, ways of modulation of the tumor microenvironment, YAP- and TAZ-mediated upregulation of PDL1, high expression of YAP and PDL1 in EGFR-TKI-resistant cells, enhanced YAP activity in inflammation, and the effect of the Hippo pathway on T cells, B cells, Tregs, macrophages, and myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs).

Purpose: Acute mesenteric ischaemia (AMI) accounts for about 1:1000 acute hospital admissions. Untreated, AMI will cause mesenteric infarction, intestinal necrosis, an overwhelming inflammatory response and death. Early intervention can halt and reverse this process leading to a full recovery, but the diagnosis of AMI is difficult and failure to recognize AMI before intestinal necrosis has developed is responsible for the high mortality of the disease.

The development of an intra-abdominal bile collection (biloma) is an infrequent complication of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). These bilomas develop in the subhepatic space most often secondary to iatrogenic injury of the extrahepatic ducts. We present a case of hepatic subcapsular biloma following LC and we discuss its etiology and management.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate whether the consequences of neurologic lesions are underestimated when the Barthel Index (BI) is used to assess the clinical outcome of botulinum toxin injection.
Patients And Methods: The records for all in- and outpatients with various neurologic lesions (stroke, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and so forth) who had been referred to the authors' departments and who had received botulinum toxin type A (Botox(®)) for spasticity within a 4-year period (2008-2011) were examined retrospectively. BI data were collected and analyzed.
