To compare the postoperative outcomes after combined phacovitrectomy for epiretinal membrane and cataract (combined group) vs standalone phacoemulsification (control group). A systematic literature search of Ovid MEDLINE, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Library was performed. The primary outcomes were the refractive predictive error and mean absolute error expressed as the spherical equivalent.

Background: Nocturnal hypoxia is common, under-diagnosed and is found in the same demographic at risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The objective of this study was to determine any association between nocturnal hypoxia and AMD, its severity, and the high-risk sub-phenotype of reticular pseudodrusen (RPD).
Methods: This cross-sectional study included participants aged ≥50 years with AMD, or normal controls, exclusive of those on treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea.

Purpose: Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment repair by intraoperative sealing of the tear without a tamponade agent should enable faster restoration of vision and resumption of normal activities. It avoids the need for further surgery in the case of silicone oil endotamponade. This study evaluated the retinal thermofusion (RTF) retinopexy method of subretinal space dehydration before photocoagulation to create an instantaneous intraoperative retina reattachment in a preclinical model.

Purpose: To evaluate the performance of microperimetry and low-luminance visual acuity for detecting late age-related macular degeneration (AMD) onset.
Methods: Two hundred ninety-two individuals with bilateral large drusen in the Laser Intervention in the Early Stages of AMD study underwent best-corrected visual acuity, low-luminance visual acuity, and microperimetry testing as well as multimodal imaging to detect late (neovascular or atrophic) AMD onset. The performance of the change in the measurement from baseline of each of visual function test for detecting late AMD onset was compared.

Purpose: To examine the added predictive value of microperimetric sensitivity and low luminance deficit (LLD; difference between photopic and low luminance visual acuity (VA)) to information from colour fundus photography (CFP) for progression to late age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in individuals with bilateral large drusen.
Methods: 140 participants with bilateral large drusen underwent baseline microperimetry testing, VA measurements and CFP. They were then reviewed at 6-monthly intervals to 36 months, to determine late AMD progression.

Purpose: To explore the psychometric properties of the Impact of Vision Impairment (IVI-28) and Night Vision Questionnaires (NVQ-10) among people with intermediate age-related macular degeneration (iAMD).
Methods: Baseline responses were collected from 288 participants (aged 50-88 years, 74% female) in the Laser intervention in Early stages of Age-related macular Degeneration (LEAD) study in Australia and Northern Ireland. Psychometric properties (discrimination, ordering of thresholds, person separation, item miss-fit, and differential item functioning according to sex) were explored using grouped rating scale and partial credit models.

Purpose: There is an urgent need for a more effective intervention to slow or prevent progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) from its early stages to vision-threatening late complications. Subthreshold nanosecond laser (SNL) treatment has shown promise in preclinical studies and a pilot study in intermediate AMD (iAMD) as a potential treatment. We aimed to evaluate the safety of SNL treatment in iAMD and its efficacy for slowing progression to late AMD.
