Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), a common neurodevelopmental disorder in children, is associated with alterations in gut microbiota and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which are metabolites influencing the gut-brain axis. Evidence suggests that psychostimulant medications, widely used to manage ADHD symptoms, may also impact gut microbiota composition and SCFA levels. This study explores these potential effects by examining gut microbiota profiles and SCFA concentrations in unmedicated and medicated children with ADHD, compared to healthy controls.

Skeletal muscle (SKM) has crucial roles in locomotor activity and posture within the body and also functions have been recognized as an actively secretory organ. Numerous bioactive molecules are secreted by SKM and transported by extracellular vesicles (EVs), a novel class of mediators of communication between cells and organs that contain various types of cargo molecules including lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. Ovarian cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women, and the development of chemoresistance remains a major challenge during and after its treatment. Exosomes, small extracellular vesicles involved in intercellular communication, have emerged as potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets in ovarian cancer. This review summarizes the current literature on differences in exosomal protein/gene expression between chemosensitive and chemoresistant ovarian cancer, and the effects of exosomal modifications on chemotherapeutic response.

Seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine and amodiaquine is recommended by the World Health Organization since 2012 for clinical malaria prevention in children in the Sahelian region of Africa. Understanding the developmental trajectories of the auditory and visual systems is crucial to elucidate cognitive maturation and its associated relationships, which are essential for effectively navigating dynamic environments. Our one recent study has shown a positive correlation between the event-related potential (ERP) amplitudes associated with visual selective attention (posterior contralateral N2) and auditory change detection (mismatch negativity) in adults, suggesting an intimate relationship and potential shared mechanism between visual selective attention and auditory change detection. However, the evolution of these processes and their relationship over time remains unclear.

Background: Long-term fasting demonstrates greater therapeutic potential and broader application prospects in extreme environments than intermittent fasting.

Method: This pilot study of 10-day complete fasting (CF), with a small sample size of 13 volunteers, aimed to investigate the time-series impacts on gut microbiome, serum metabolome, and their interrelationships with biochemical indices.

Results: The results show CF significantly affected gut microbiota diversity, composition, and interspecies interactions, characterized by an expansion of the Proteobacteria phylum (about six-fold) and a decrease in Bacteroidetes (about 50%) and Firmicutes (about 34%) populations.
