Highly selective inhibitors of cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6 (CDK4/6is) have emerged as a standart of care for first- and second-line therapies in combination with endocrine therapy (ET) for HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients. It has been reported that combination therapy is more effective than ET alone and is safe in elderly patients as well as young patients. Nevertheless, elderly and very old patients with HR+/HER2-MBC treated with CDK4/6 inhibitor (CDK4/6i) combinations are relatively underrepresented in randomized controlled trials.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study compared the effectiveness of two newer methods for locating non-palpable breast lesions—Magnetic Seed (Magseed) and Radiofrequency Identification (RFID)—against traditional wire-guided techniques.
  • - Using turkey breasts and raisins as simulation models, both techniques achieved a 100% success rate in lesion localization, but Magseed had shorter operation times while RFID had shorter incisions.
  • - Overall, neither method showed a significant advantage over the other in terms of effectiveness or surgical outcomes, suggesting both can be used safely for lesion localization.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) data in Türkiye, focusing on prognostic outcomes and influencing factors for patients aged 18 and older who were treated at 28 medical centers.
  • It found a survival rate upon hospital discharge of only 4.4%, with a significant majority of patients not receiving bystander CPR, which was only performed in 2.9% of cases.
  • Key predictors for better outcomes included male gender, initial shockable heart rhythms, shorter prehospital CPR duration, and no need for CPR in the emergency department, highlighting the importance of timely and effective CPR in emergencies.

Rationale: Intramuscular injections are routine outpatient procedure performed at healthcare institutions worldwide. In the current literature, there have been very few reports of gluteal superior artery injuries due to incorrect injection techniques. However, no one has ever reported a healthy middle-aged man with systemic inflammatory response syndrome with possible injection-related bleeding from the gluteus superior artery, followed by a hematoma, and then a deep abscess after 3 weeks of not receiving treatment.

Rationale: Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is an autosomal dominant neurocutaneous syndrome that causes multiple central and peripheral nerve sheath tumors. People with NF1 have a 10% chance of developing malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs). Here we report a unique instance of a malignant schwannoma that has remained free of metastasis since its initial removal a decade ago.

Monte Carlo simulation method and Nuclear Medicine MIRD method were used to evaluate the effect of radiopharmaceuticals on Covid-19 disease. The mean absorbed organ dose in the target organ and gamma radiation emitter attenuation properties such as linear attenuation coefficients, energy absorption build-up factors (EABF), exposure build-up factors (EBF), and relative dose distributions (RDD) were examined. The results showed that radiopharmaceuticals containing gamma radiation emitters which are densely ionizing charged particles induced membrane damage and produced protein damage.

Background And Purpose: In this study, we wanted to investigate the effect of antiplatelet and anticoagulant use on the success of mechanical thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke cases.

Methods: 174 patients who were brought to the Stroke Center of Gaziantep University Şahinbey Research and Practice Hospital between January 2018 and February 2019 due to acute ischemic stroke and who underwent mechanical thrombectomy were retrospectively analyzed. The demographic characteristics, antiplatelet/anticoagulant use before the stroke and mTICI (modified-Throm-bolysis-In-Cerebral-Infarction) scores used for reperfusion in mechanical thrombectomy were evaluated.

The COVID-19 outbreak that spread in December 2019 has caused the death of millions of people in a short time. Many studies published recently have shown that many cytokines (interleukin (IL) IL-1, IL-2, IL-6, TNF and IFN-) are significantly increased in COVID-19 patients with pneumonia, and especially IL-6 in combination with other cytokines has shown to be the main cause of the cytokine storm. Since IL-6 level is associated with clinical worsening in COVID-19 patients, anti-IL-6 therapy is seen as a promising treatment.

Bezold-Jarisch reflex is a reflex that may occur during regional anesthesia, upper-extremity blocks and sometimes in general anesthesia, resulting in hypotension, bradycardia, apnea or cardiac arrest elicited by chemical or mechanical receptor stimulations. This reflex mostly occurs in the sitting position during upper-extremity nerve blocks can be forgotten in other complications. The complications that occurred after this reflex can be overcome by taking necessary precautions and providing sufficient cardiac monitorization.
