Feed quality is among the most determinative criteria for aquaculture success. Along with feed ingredient quality and its production process, feed storage conditions would also affect feed quality, especially in terms of adventitious toxins. Mycotoxins are frequent food and feed contaminants and are considered important health threats to both human and animal health.

Changes in maternal nutrition during the periconceptional period can influence postnatal growth in cattle. This study aimed to identify the impact of supplementing beef cows with rumen-protected methionine (RP-Met) during the periconceptional period on their female progeny. In exp 1, plasma methionine (Met) levels were analyzed in samples from 10 Angus crossbred, non-lactating beef cows.

Biological soil amendments of animal origin (BSAAO) are a source of foodborne pathogens that can contaminate fresh produce. This study evaluated the survival of E. coli over 140 d in agricultural soils amended with composted poultry litter (PL), heat-treated poultry pellets (HTPP), or unamended (UN) in Florida (FL) and Georgia (GA).

Control measures rely on pesticides with negative impacts on the environment, natural ecosystems, and human and animal health. In contrast, gene-targeting methods have the potential to specifically target the vector species and/or reduce pathogen transmission.

Background: Hospital presumptive eligibility (HPE) emergency Medicaid programs offset patient bills at hospitalization and can provide long-term Medicaid coverage. We characterized postdischarge outpatient health care utilization among HPE Medicaid trauma patients and identified patient access facilitators and barriers once newly insured. We hypothesized utilization would be increased among HPE trauma patients compared with other HPE patients, but that challenges in access to care would remain.

Fecal contamination of surface waters presents significant human health and environmental risks. While many methods for understanding fecal contamination cannot differentiate between human and animal sources, microbial source tracking (MST) marker methods are used to identify fecal sources. To understand how to best employ MST marker data for managing fecal contamination risks, the present study compiled previously collected MST marker data ( = 12,878 samples) from across North America; each sample in the data set had been tested for fecal contamination from one or more of five sources (avian, canine, human, ruminant, swine).

The market demand for baby leaf lettuce is constantly increasing, while safety has become one of the most important traits in determining consumer preference driven by human health hazards concerns. In this study, the performance of visible and near-infrared (vis/NIR) spectroscopy was tested in discriminating pesticide-free against pesticide-treated lettuce plants. Two commercial fungicides (mancozeb and fosetyl-al) and two insecticides (deltamethrin and imidacloprid) were applied as spray solutions at the recommended rates on baby leaf lettuce plants.

Understanding gene function is important for crop improvement and breeding efforts, especially in a genetically complex polyploid plant species such as the octoploid strawberry. -mediated transient assays are a widely used tool for investigating gene functions and offer a reliable alternative to stable transformation. However, variability in tissue-specific responses and inconsistent applicability of -mediated transient assay across diverse plant species can be challenging.

In this study, the parameters of blood microcirculation and microrheology were measured using the methods of laser aggregometry and optical tweezers in vitro, as well as the method of digital capillaroscopy in vivo. It was shown that in patients suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus, an increase in the number of RBC aggregates passing through the narrow capillaries leads to a significant decrease in the velocity of the capillary blood flow, which can be explained by the increased viscosity of the whole blood and decreased deformability of RBCs. Also, for the group of patients, a statistically significant increase in the rate of RBC aggregation and the hydrodynamic strength of aggregates, RBC aggregation and disaggregation forces were observed compared to the control group.

The application of adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors in human gene therapies requires reproducible and homogeneous preparations for clinical efficacy and safety. For the AAV production process, often scalable affinity chromatography columns are utilized, such as the POROS CaptureSelect AAVX affinity resin, during downstream processing to ensure highly purified AAV vectors. The AAVX ligand is based on a camelid single-domain antibody capturing a wide range of recombinant AAV capsids.

Cyanobacteria exhibit a vast diversity from polar to tropical environments. Though much work has been done on elucidating their biodiversity, knowledge on the occurrence, diversity and toxicity of benthic cyanobacteria is limited when compared to the planktonic forms. Integrating molecular techniques with ecological and morphological analyses has become essential in untangling cyanobacterial diversity, particularly for benthic taxa such as the cryptic "Lyngbya.

This study aimed to integrate game theory and deep learning algorithms with the InVEST Ecosystem Services Model (IESM) for Sediment Retention (SR) modeling in the Kasilian watershed, Iran. The Kasilian watershed is characterized by multiple sub-watersheds, which vary in their environmental conditions and SR potential, with a total of 19 sub-watersheds. The research was carried out in four phases: mapping SR using the IESM, implementing the Fallback bargaining algorithm based on game theory, applying deep learning algorithms (CNN, LSTM, RNN), and performing statistical analysis for optimal model selection.

Land application of biosolids to pastures confers multiple agronomic and environmental benefits, particularly in coarse-textured soils with low nutrient and organic matter levels. However, concerns over potential water quality have led to more stringent regulations that will limit beneficial reuse of biosolids in Florida. This 3-year field study evaluated the impacts of biosolids application strategies on N and P leaching losses, and soil P availability in an established bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum Flueggé) pasture.

The flat mite, Brevipalpus yothersi (Baker, 1949) is widely distributed in the southern United States. This mite is associated with a citrus leprosis virus ((CiLV-C2) Cilevirus colombiaense strain hibiscus) infecting ornamental hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) in Florida and Hawaii. Because hibiscus is a highly traded ornamental plant, CiLV-C2 has the potential to spread.

Gluten proteins in cereal grains are often considered unsafe for health. Indeed, the dissemination of misinformation through various sources has led to a widespread misconception that the consumption of gluten by healthy individuals results in adverse health consequences and contributes to obesity. In recent years, many health-conscious consumers have started reducing or avoiding gluten consumption without a medical recommendation.
