Virus Res

July 2016

Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, College of Veterinary Medicine, Chungnam National University, Daejeon, Republic of Korea; Research Institute of Veterinary Medicine, Chungnam National University, Daejeon, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

In this study, we evaluated the immune responses of avian metapneumovirus harboring chicken Fc molecule. Stable Vero cells expressing chicken Fc chimera on its surface (Vero-cFc) were established, and we confirmed that aMPV grown in Vero-cFc incorporated host derived chimera Fc into the aMPV virions. Immunization of chicken with aMPV-cFc induced higher level of antibodies and inflammatory cytokines; (Interferon (IFN)-γ and Interleukin (IL)-1β) compared to those of aMPV.

Phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase is involved in the maintenance of male fertility under cryptorchidism in mice.

Reprod Toxicol

November 2015

College of Veterinary Medicine and Research Institute of Veterinary Medicine, Chungbuk National University, Cheongju 361-763, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Severe oxidative stress by cryptorchidism leads to infertility. To assess the functional significance of phospholipid hydroperoxidase glutathione peroxidase (PHGPx) under cryptorchidism, PHGPx expression was spatiotemporally analyzed in testes and epididymis excised at 1, 4, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after experimental bilateral cryptorchidism in adult mice. In testes, while apoptosis-related caspase 3 and Bcl-xL mRNAs were significantly changed after 14 days, 3 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase mRNA was greatly reduced immediately after cryptorchidism.

Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, College of Veterinary Medicine, Chungnam National University, Daejeon 305-764, Republic of Korea; Research Institute of Veterinary Medicine, Chungnam National University, Daejeon 305-764, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

To understand the molecular mechanisms of Avian metapneumovirus (aMPV) and the requirements involved in the infection and fusion, trypsin treatment was done in the different stages of virus; before infection, during entry and after virus infection followed by aMPV infection. The growth kinetics of aMPV was compared in time dependent manner. The effect of trypsin was found in the later stage of aMPV infection increasing the numbers of infected cells with the significant higher titer of infectious virions to that of trypsin treated before infection, during entry and aMPV.

Establishment of optimal scan delay for multi-phase computed tomography using bolus-tracking technique in canine pancreas.

J Vet Med Sci

September 2015

College of Veterinary Medicine and Research Institute of Veterinary Medicine, Chungnam National University, Daejeon 305-764, South Korea.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to create a multi-phase CT protocol for detecting the canine pancreas using a bolus-tracking technique, tested on six normal beagle dogs.
  • - A dynamic scan was conducted to monitor contrast medium enhancement, measuring intervals from aortic enhancement to peaks in the aorta, pancreas, and portal vein.
  • - Results suggested optimal scan delays for capturing peak enhancement: no delay for the aorta and a 5-second delay for pancreatic parenchyma, improving the effectiveness of the CT protocol.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus infects and replicates in porcine alveolar macrophages.

Virus Res

October 2014

Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, College of Veterinary Medicine, Chungnam National University, Republic of Korea; Research Institute of Veterinary Medicine, Chungnam National University, Daejeon, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is a causative agent of porcine epidemic diarrhea; consequently, the small intestine was believed to be its only target organ. In this study, we found that PEDV infected not only the small intestines, but also the respiratory tract. Infection and replication of PEDV in the respiratory tract from naturally PEDV-infected piglets were examined by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, immunohistochemistry, and virus re-isolation.
