We studied serum content of some polyunsaturated fatty acids and their correlations with parameters of oxidative stress (FORT), antioxidant protection (FORD), lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (LP-PLA2), and serum level of LPO products in male patients with coronary atherosclerosis. The mass fraction of polyunsaturated fatty acids and FORD were lower, while LP-PLA2, FORT, and concentration of LPO products were higher than in the control group (conventionally healthy men). Negative correlations of medium strength of polyunsaturated fatty acids with inflammation markers and oxidative stress were revealed, which can indicate that the decrease in polyunsaturated fatty acids content is associated with enhanced generation of free radicals, and consequently with increased risk of early atherosclerosis development.

Methods: Starting from ABP recordings with ≥30/≥10 awake/asleep readings in 4277 participants enrolled in eight population studies in the International Database on Ambulatory Blood Pressure in Relation to Cardiovascular Outcomes (IDACO), we randomly selected a certain number of readings (from 30 to 1 awake and 10 to 1 asleep readings) at a time over 1000 bootstraps at each step.

We screened GLIS3 gene sequences among patients with MODY to identify probably pathogenic variants by whole-exome sequencing. We studied associations of osteocalcin, osteoprotegerin, and calcitonin with markers of inflammation in atherosclerotic plaques in coronary arteries and assessed the influence of these biomolecules on calcification of atherosclerotic plaques. The initial stage of calcification of atherosclerotic plaques is characterized by activation of inflammatory processes, which is seen from increased levels of proinflammatory biomarkers (IL-6, IL 8, TNF-α, and IL-1β). Progressive calcification of atherosclerotic plaques is accompanied by insignificant accumulation of calcitonin and osteoprotegerin.

Changes in the blood serum proteins were assessed in men with coronary atherosclerosis and without coronary heart disease. Proteins were separated by 2D-electrophoresis, protein fractions were identified by their peptide fingerprint by MALDI method; fractions with more than twofold increase in protein level were determined. In blood serum of patients with coronary atherosclerosis, the content of C4 complement protein increased and ceruloplasmin level decreased, which is typical of heart failure and coronary heart disease.

To verify the type of diabetes mellitus (DM) remains an extremely important problem in endocrinology, as along with types 1 and 2 DM there are rarer hereditary types of DM, including maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY). The latter is a genetic type of DM, which is characterized by an autosomal dominant inheritance. Eleven types of MODY (MODY 1 to MODY13) are identified; each is associated with mutations in the certain gene: HNF4A, GCK, HNF1A, PDX1, HNF1B, NEUROD1, KLF11, CEL, PAX4, INS, BLK, KCNJ11 and ABCC8.
