A combined 3D printed metal and resin digital denture: 5-year follow-up data and a creative design concept.

Many denture frameworks are currently manufactured using metal 3-dimensional (3D) printing technology. However, this advanced technology is still limited to conventional denture designs. A metal 3D printing-based denture design concept was developed and is presented based on a nonwear occlusal surface, a nonfracture denture base, and a novel connection between metal and resin.

The rat eustachian tube: Anatomical, histological, and radiological features.

Purpose: This study investigated the anatomical and histological characteristics of the rat Eustachian tube (E-tube) and the feasibility of Eustachian tubography in a rat model.

Materials And Methods: Fifteen male Wistar rats were used in this study, and the bilateral E-tubes of each rat were examined. Ten E-tubes were used for anatomical studies, another ten for histological analysis, and the other ten for Eustachian tubography.

Influenza vaccination trend and related factors among patients with diabetes in Korea: Analysis using a nationwide database.

Background: Subjects with diabetes are at higher risk of serious influenza-related complications. We aimed to investigate the yearly trend of influenza vaccination and factors associated with being unvaccinated for influenza in subjects with diabetes using a nationwide observational study performed within the recent decade.

Methods: Among 105,732 subjects from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2007 and 2019, 8,632 with diabetes were included.

Bilateral paranasal sinus fungal balls: A retrospective cohort study in 28 patients over a 21-year period.

Paranasal fungal balls are rare entities for which a recent increase in reported cases has been observed. Fungal balls are most commonly unilateral, and there are few bilateral cases in the literature. Here we report the clinical features of bilateral fungal balls in 24 patients treated in our institution over the past 20 years.

Improvement of osseointegration of Ti-6Al-4V ELI alloy orthodontic mini-screws through anodization, cyclic pre-calcification, and heat treatments.

Background: Mini-screws are widely used as temporary anchorages in orthodontic treatment, but have the disadvantage of showing a high failure rate of about 10%. Therefore, orthodontic mini-screws should have high biocompatibility and retention. Previous studies have demonstrated that the retention of mini-screws can be improved by imparting bioactivity to the surface.

The Positive Effects of Cancer Survivor Support Service on Distress in South Korea: A Nationwide Prospective Study.

Background And Aim: Cancer survivors are gradually increasing, however, they suffer from various difficulties. We aimed to investigate the characteristics of cancer survivors and the effects of the services of the Korean Cancer Survivorship Center Pilot Project launched by the South Korean government on distress.

Methods: A prospective observational cohort study was performed on cancer survivors who completed primary treatment.

Quantitative CT image-based structural and functional changes during asthma acute exacerbations.

Asthma acute exacerbations (AE) have been investigated using quantitative computed tomography (QCT)based imaging metrics, but QCT has not yet been used to investigate a comprehensive set of imaging metrics during AE. This study aims to explore imaging features, captured both at segmental and parenchymal scales, during asthma AE compared with those in stable asthma (SA). Two sets of the QCT images at total lung capacity (TLC) and functional residual capacity (FRC) were captured for 14 subjects during asthma AE and in SA phase, respectively.

Stabilized Loading of Hyaluronic Acid-Containing Hydrogels into Magnesium-Based Cannulated Screws.

Cannulated screws have a structure for inserting a guide wire inside them to effectively correct complicated fractures. Magnesium, an absorbable metal used to manufacture cannulated screws, may decompose in the body after a certain period of implantation. The hydrogel formed by hyaluronic acid (HA) and polygalacturonic acid (PGA) has been used into Mg-based cannulated screws to prevent bone resorption owing to the rapid corrosion of Mg with unfavorable mechanical properties and a high ambient pH.

2020 Clinical Practice Guideline for Percutaneous Transthoracic Needle Biopsy of Pulmonary Lesions: A Consensus Statement and Recommendations of the Korean Society of Thoracic Radiology.

Percutaneous transthoracic needle biopsy (PTNB) is one of the essential diagnostic procedures for pulmonary lesions. Its role is increasing in the era of CT screening for lung cancer and precision medicine. The Korean Society of Thoracic Radiology developed the first evidence-based clinical guideline for PTNB in Korea by adapting pre-existing guidelines.

Effective Reduction of Orbital Floor Fracture With Customized Balloon Using Contrast Agent And Micro Saw.

The purpose of this article is to introduce simple, minimally invasive, more effective, and more comfortable method using a customized balloon with contrast agent for orbital floor fracture. The customized balloon was fabricated to compensate for its shortcomings, based on the experiences from four patients who underwent the surgery of orbital floor fracture using a Foley catheter.In a 33-year-old female patient with only orbital floor fracture, the reduction was performed using a transmaxillary approach with a customized balloon.

Clinical characteristics of dry eye with ocular neuropathic pain features: comparison according to the types of sensitization based on the Ocular Pain Assessment Survey.

Background: To compare the clinical characteristics of dry eye patients with ocular neuropathic pain features according to the types of sensitization based on the Ocular Pain Assessment Survey (OPAS).

Methods: Cross-sectional study of 33 patients with dry eye and ocular neuropathic pain features. All patients had a comprehensive ophthalmic assessment including detailed history, the intensity and duration of ocular pain, the tear film, ocular surface, and Meibomian gland examination, and OPAS.

Background: Cutaneous fibrous histiocytoma (CFH) is a common, benign skin tumor predominantly occurring on the extremities or trunk. However, CFH on the finger is rare.

Objective: This study was undertaken to examine the clinicohistopathological features of CFH of the finger.

Ischemic osteonecrosis (ION) can produce permanent deformity and osteoarthritis in the femoral head and other joints. No biologic treatment has been established, and the molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of ION have not been elucidated. In this work, we found that treatment with sirtuin6 (Sirt6) suppressed inflammatory cytokines, bone resorption, progression of osteoarthritis, and reduced bone deformity in an ION mouse model.

Change in jaw occlusive power by paralysis of masseter muscle with a neuromuscular blocker: Sion's masseter muscle paralysis.

Study Objective: We aimed to determine whether jaw occlusive power decreases with the injection of neuromuscular blocking agents in masseter muscle - a method we named Sion's masseter muscle paralysis (SMP).

Methods: A randomized, placebo-controlled animal study was conducted in which researchers were blinded to group allocation. We used 12 male mongrel dogs aged 10-12 months and weighing 30-35 kg.

Mortality difference between early-identified sepsis and late-identified sepsis.

Objective: The aim of the study was to compare the mortality rates of patients with early-identified (EI) sepsis and late-identified (LI) sepsis.

Methods: We performed a retrospective chart review of patients admitted to the emergency department and diagnosed with sepsis. EI sepsis was defined as patients with a Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score ≥2, based on 3 parameters of the SOFA score (Glasgow coma scale, mean arterial pressure, and partial pressure of oxygen/fraction of inspired oxygen ratio), measured within an hour of emergency department admission.

Measurement of Nasalance Scores Without Touching the Philtrum for Better Comfort During Speech Assessment and Therapy: A Preliminary Study.

Objective: The Kay Pentax nasometer uses a separator plate that touches the philtrum of a patient to separate the nasal and oral sound energies for nasalance measurement. However, the separator plate can restrict the natural movement of the patient's upper lip and generate unpleasant pressure on the patient's philtrum. The present study was intended to measure nasalance scores without touching the philtrum for better comfort during speech assessment and therapy.

Bilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss with Sweet syndrome: A case report.

Introduction: Sweet syndrome (SS) is an idiopathic autoimmune disease which has been associated with various extracutaneous manifestations. Otologic symptoms secondary to SS are characterized by bilateral, progressive, sensorineural hearing loss, which requires auditory rehabilitation with, for example, cochlear implantation.

Patient Concerns: A 43-year-old woman complaining of bilateral sudden hearing loss visited the Emergency Department of our University.

Mechanical Thrombectomy in Basilar Artery Occlusion: Clinical Outcomes Related to Posterior Circulation Collateral Score.

Background And Purpose: Basilar artery occlusion (BAO) is associated with a high risk of disability and mortality. The objective of this study was to investigate prognostic factors in patients with acute basilar artery occlusion treated with mechanical thrombectomy, focusing on collateral status and recanalization time from symptom onset.

Methods: Eligible patients from January 2012 to October 2019 who underwent endovascular treatment due to acute BAO were reviewed.
