The Essential Role of PGF2α/PTGFR in Molding Endometrial Breakdown and Vascular Dynamics, Regulated by HIF-1α in a Mouse Menstrual-like Model.

Reprod Sci

September 2024

Reproductive Physiology Laboratory, NHC Key Laboratory of Reproductive Health Engineering Technology Research, National Research Institute for Family Planning, Beijing, China.

In women of childbearing age, extensive decidualization, shedding and remodeling of the endometrium during the menstrual cycle are fundamental for successful pregnancy. The role of prostaglandins (PGs) in menstruation has long been proposed in humans, and the rate-limiting enzyme cyclooxygenase was shown to play a key role in endometrial breakdown and shedding in a mouse menstrual-like model in our previous study. However, the specific types of PGs involved and their respective roles remain unclear.

BMC Pregnancy Childbirth

April 2024

Key Laboratory of Environmental Medicine and Engineering of Ministry of Education, Department of Epidemiology and Statistics, School of Public Health, Southeast University, No. 87 Dingjiaqiao Road, Gulou District, Nanjing, Jiangsu, China.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to investigate the link between genital Mollicutes infections and adverse pregnancy outcomes in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), given that previous studies showed little correlation in the general pregnant population.
  • The research involved 432 GDM women from Chongqing, China, tracking outcomes like premature rupture of membranes and fetal distress, with the infections tested during their second and third trimesters.
  • Results indicated that 55.79% of participants had Mollicutes infections, but there was no statistically significant increase in adverse outcomes among those infected compared to those uninfected, highlighting the need for further research in this area.

Base editing of hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs) is an attractive strategy for treating immunohematologic diseases. However, the feasibility of using adenine-base-edited HSPCs for treating X-linked severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID-X1), the influence of dose-response relationships on immune cell generation, and the potential risks have not been demonstrated in vivo. Here, a humanized SCID-X1 mouse model was established, and 86.

What Is Already Known About This Topic?: The significance of maternal liver health concerning preterm birth (PTB) is well recognized; however, there is a gap in understanding the precise influence of preconception serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels on the risk of PTB.

What Is Added By This Report?: In this retrospective cohort study, a J-shaped relationship between preconception serum ALT levels and risk of PTB was observed, indicating that both significantly elevated and decreased ALT levels may contribute to the risk.

What Are The Implications For Public Health Practice?: Maintaining optimal preconception serum ALT levels may reduce the risk of PTB, thereby informing specific preventive measures for women of reproductive age.

  • Current smoking significantly elevates stroke risk globally, particularly for ischemic stroke, with odds ratios indicating a stronger link in high-income countries.
  • Environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) exposure also raises stroke risk, with a notable increase for those exposed for over 10 hours weekly, impacting all stroke types.
  • The study highlights varying risk associations based on tobacco type and regional income levels, with large vessel strokes showing the strongest correlation with current smoking.

Objective: This study aims to compare the safety and efficacy of misoprostol administered orally and vaginally in obese pregnant women at term with either gestational hypertension or diabetes.

Methods: A total of 264 pregnant women were enrolled and categorized into two groups based on their primary condition: hypertension (134 cases) or diabetes mellitus (130 cases) and were further divided into subgroups for misoprostol administration: orally (Oral group) or vaginally (Vaginal group). The primary outcomes measured were changes in the Bishop score following treatment, induction of labor (IOL) success rates, requirement for oxytocin augmentation, duration of labor, mode of delivery, and cesarean section rates.

Background: Abnormal preconception thyrotropin levels were associated with fecundability and adverse fetomaternal outcomes, however, little is known regarding the natural change of serum thyrotropin in euthyroid preconception women. Thus, we performed a population-based study to evaluate the progression to abnormal thyrotropin in euthyroid preconception women.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study used data from the National Free Prepregnancy Checkups Project (NFPCP) collected between 2010 and 2020.

Department of Intelligent Medical Engineering, School of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Psychology, School of Mental Health and Psychological Sciences, Anhui Medical University, Hefei 230011, China.

Early detection and treatment of congenital heart disease (CHD) can significantly improve the prognosis of children. However, inexperienced sonographers often face difficulties in recognizing CHD through transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) images. In this study, 2-dimensional (2D) and Doppler TTEs of children collected from 2 clinical groups from Beijing Children's Hospital between 2018 and 2022 were analyzed, including views of apical 4 chamber, subxiphoid long-axis view of 2 atria, parasternal long-axis view of the left ventricle, parasternal short-axis view of aorta, and suprasternal long-axis view.

Cell Mol Life Sci

March 2024

Key Laboratory of Cell Proliferation and Regulation Biology, Ministry of Education, Department of Biology, College of Life Sciences, Beijing Normal University, Beijing, 100875, People's Republic of China.

Tektins are microtubule inner proteins (MIPs) and localize at the inside lumen of doublet microtubules (DMTs) of cilia/flagella. TEKTIP1, a newly identified protein by cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), is proposed to be localized at the center of the tektin bundle and hypothesized to recruit tektins or stabilize the bundle. However, the physiological role of TEKTIP1 is unknown.
