Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Immunology, Rennes University Hospital, University of Rennes 1, Rennes, France; École des Hautes Études en Santé Publique, Research Institute for Environmental and Occupational Health, French National Institute of Health and Medical Research Unit 1085, Rennes University Hospital, University of Rennes 1, Rennes, France.

Systemic sclerosis is a rare connective tissue disease characterised by a wide range of clinical manifestations. Compared with previous sets of criteria, the 2013 American College of Rheumatology and European League Against Rheumatism (ACR/EULAR) classification of systemic sclerosis encompasses a broader and more relevant spectrum of the condition. Nonetheless, clinical and prognostic heterogeneity persists among patients fulfilling these criteria.

The health safety conditions governing the practice of online hemodiafiltration (OL-HDF) do not yet incorporate the risks related to the presence of endocrine disruptors such as bisphenol A (BPA). The aim of this study was to assess, for the first time, the exposure to BPA but also to its chlorinated derivatives (ClxBPA) (100 times more estrogenic than BPA) during OL-HDF. We demonstrated that BPA is transmitted by the different medical devices used in OL-HDF: ultrafilters, dialysis concentrate cartridges (and not only dialyzers, as previously described).

Objective: To assess the separate and combined associations of maternal pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) and gestational weight gain with the risks of pregnancy complications and their population impact.

Design: Individual participant data meta-analysis of 39 cohorts.

Setting: Europe, North America, and Oceania.

View Article and Find Full Text PDF
Article Synopsis
  • Maternal obesity and excessive weight gain during pregnancy are linked to increased risks of childhood overweight and obesity, with effects strongest during late childhood.
  • A large study analyzed data from over 162,000 mothers and their children across multiple countries to assess these associations using advanced statistical methods.
  • Results indicate that both pre-pregnancy BMI and gestational weight gain significantly contribute to childhood obesity, suggesting the need for targeted interventions during pregnancy to address these risks.

Background: Gestational weight gain differs according to pre-pregnancy body mass index and is related to the risks of adverse maternal and child health outcomes. Gestational weight gain charts for women in different pre-pregnancy body mass index groups enable identification of women and offspring at risk for adverse health outcomes. We aimed to construct gestational weight gain reference charts for underweight, normal weight, overweight, and grades 1, 2 and 3 obese women and to compare these charts with those obtained in women with uncomplicated term pregnancies.

Industrial companies indicate a tendency to eliminate variations in operator strategies, particularly following implementation of the lean principle. Companies believe when the operators perform the same prescribed tasks, they have to execute them in the same manner (completing the same gestures and being exposed to the same risk factors). They attempt to achieve better product quality by standardizing and reducing operational leeway.
