We investigated the effect of feed deprivation for 45 days on the growth, immunity, and health of 0marron () initially fed for 110 days on various protein sources including fishmeal (FM), poultry by-product meal (PBM), black soldier fly meal (BSFM), soybean meal (SBM), lupin meal (LM), and tuna hydrolysate. The marron were weighed and sacrificed immediately after feeding stopped (day 0) and at days 15, 30, and 45 after the feed deprivation trial commenced. Total haemolymph count, differential haemocyte count, lysozyme activity, protease activity, total bacterial count in the digestive tract, and organosomatic indices were analysed.

We report the complete mitochondrial genome of the hybrid flounder (♀) (♂). The mitochondrial genome contained protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and 1 control region (D-loop), for a total length of 16,874 bp. The nucleotide composition of the heavy strand was 29.

A feeding study was conducted to investigate how fish protein hydrolysate (FPH) supplementation affected the growth, feed utilization, body composition, and hematology of juvenile giant trevally (Caranx ignobilis Forsskal, 1775). Seven isonitrogenous (52% protein) and isocaloric diets (10% lipid) were formulated, wherein shrimp hydrolysate (SH) and tuna hydrolysate (TH) were used to replace fishmeal at inclusion levels of 0 (control), 30, 60, and 90 g/kg and labeled as control, SH30, SH60, SH90, TH30, TH60, and TH90, respectively. Each diet was fed to triplicate groups of juvenile giant trevally for 8 weeks.

The current situation of goat production and supply chains in Vietnam, along with its difficulties and possibilities, is presented in this review paper. The data and reports of government agencies, scientific journals, and websites were analysed in order to determine the prevailing situation in goat production and marketing. Goats are mainly raised on small-scale farms (73.

Streptococcus iniae is one of the most serious aquatic pathogens, causing significant economic losses in marine and freshwater species, including Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer). Controlling this gram-positive bacterial pathogen has been an issue in aquaculture systems, due to the combined effects of aquaculture intensification and climatic impacts. To date, there have not been any genetic parameter estimates for S.

Outbreaks of contagious diseases, including White spot syndrome virus (WSSV), occur more frequently due to environment changes and as commercial shrimp production becomes intensified. The over-arching aim of this study was to examine new traits to improve disease resistance of Whiteleg shrimp, Liptopenaeus vannamei, to WSSV. Specifically, we made a compressive evaluation of the breeding population to determine a suitable selection criterion for improved WSSV resistance.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWhite Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) is the most damaging pathogen in terms of production and economic losses for the shrimp sector world-wide. Estimation of heritability for WSSV resistance was made in this study to obtain necessary parameter inputs for broadening the breeding objectives of an ongoing selective breeding programme for Whiteleg shrimp () that has focussed exclusively on improving growth performance since 2014. The present study involved a disease challenge test experiment using a total of 15,000 shrimps from 150 full- and half-sib families (100 individuals per family).

The natural amorphous polymer poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB-A: lyophilized Ralstonia eutropha containing 75% PHB) was used as a biological agent to control bacterial pathogens of blue mussel (Mytilus edulis) larvae. The larvae were supplied with PHB-A at a concentration of 1 or 10 mg/L for 6 or 24 hr, followed by exposure to either the rifampicin-resistant pathogen Vibrio splendidus or Vibrio coralliilyticus at a concentration of 10 CFU/ml. Larvae pretreated 6 hr with PHB-A (1 mg/L) survived a Vibrio challenge better relative to 24 hr pretreatment.

The study examined the effects of supplemental organic selenium (Se) extracted from selenoyeast on the growth performance, glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity, biochemical status and liver histochemistry of juvenile cobia Rachycentron canadum. Six experimental diets were prepared supplemented with Se with total concentration of 1.52 (Se-1.

Marine invertebrates rely mainly on innate immune mechanisms that include both humoral and cellular responses. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), lysozyme and phenoloxidase activity, are important components of the innate immune defense system in marine invertebrates. They provide an immediate and rapid response to invading microorganisms.

Background: Rainbow trout is an important aquaculture species, which has a worldwide distribution across various production environments. The diverse locations of trout farms involve remarkable variation in environmental factors such as water temperature, which is of major importance for the performance of fish. Thus, robust fish that could thrive under different and suboptimal thermal conditions is a desirable goal for trout breeding.

Two new species and two new basin records of mahseers in the genera Tor and Neolissochilus are described from the upper Krong No and middle Đồng Nai drainages of the Langbiang Plateau in southern Vietnam. These new species and new records are known from streams and rivers in montane mixed pine and evergreen forests between 140 and 1112 m. Their populations are isolated in the Sre Pok River of the Mekong basin, the middle of the Đồng Nai basin, and the An Lão River.

Quantitative trait loci for milk production traits in Danish Jersey cattle were mapped by a genome-wide association analysis using a mixed model. The analysis incorporated 1,039 bulls and 33,090 SNP and resulted in 98 detected combinations of QTL and traits on 27 BTA. These QTL comprised 30 for milk index, 50 for fat index, and 18 for protein index.

Fishborne zoonotic metacercariae have not been reported from brackish water and marine fish from Vietnam waters although these parasites are common in the country's freshwater fish. Both wild-caught and cultured grouper (Epinephelus coioides and Epinephelus bleekeri), and mullet (Mugil cephalus) from brackish and marine waters located in Khanh Hoa province in central coastal Vietnam were examined, and found positive for zoonotic trematode metacercariae. From grouper, Heterophyopsis continua and Procerovum varium were recovered.
