Glycopeptide antibiotics (GPAs) are drugs of last resort for treating infections by Gram-positive bacteria. They inhibit bacterial cell wall assembly by binding to the d-Ala-d-Ala terminus of peptidoglycan precursors, leading to cell lysis Vancomycin and teicoplanin are first generation GPAs, while dalbavancin is one of the few, recently approved, second generation GPAs. In this paper, we developed an in vivo insect model to compare, for the first time, the efficacy of these three GPAs in curing infection.

Effects of fertilization practices, mineral (M) and organo-mineral (OM), on molecular composition of Nero di Troia cultivar grape berries was studied using conventional chemical analysis, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and H NMR spectroscopy on intact berries and extracts, respectively, and through analysis of yeast species developed on grape skins. Plants vegetative status did not differ between the two fertilization practices, whereas some grape juice chemical characteristics differed in fertilized grapes. MRI provided information on grape berries morphology through weighted images depending on spin-spin (T2) and spin-lattice (T1) relaxation times.

Decomposing fungi translocate manganese (Mn) as demonstrated by the fact that Mn has been found to accumulate on decomposing leaves associated with individual fungal hyphae forming insoluble Mn(III,IV) oxides that remain concentrated in diffuse patches. To investigate the effects of two nectar nonprotein amino acids, β-alanine and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), on Osmia bicornis survival and locomotion, two groups of caged bees were fed with sugar syrup enriched with β-alanine and GABA, respectively. A further control group was fed with sugar syrup. Five behavioural categories were chosen according to the principle of parsimony and intrinsic unitary consistency from start to end, and recorded by scan sampling: two states (remaining under paper or in tubes) and three events (walking on net, feeding from flower and flying).
