The 24-h movement guidelines for children and adolescents comprise recommendations for adequate sleep, moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and sedentary behaviour (SB). However, whether adolescents who meet these 24-h movement guidelines may be less likely to have high blood pressure (HBP) has not been established. The present study assessed the association between meeting 24-h movement guidelines and HBP in a school-based sample of 996 adolescents between 10-17 years (13.

Sports Med Health Sci

December 2022

Research Center on Physical Activity, Health and Aging, Department of Sport Sciences, Institute of Health Sciences, Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro, Uberaba, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship of dynapenia combined with sedentary behavior (SB) on the risk of mortality in older adults living in a Brazilian community. A total of 322 participants aged ≥ 60 years from the ELSIA (Longitudinal Study of Elderly Health in Alcobaça) prospective cohort were included. Dynapenia was diagnosed when the handgrip strength was < 27 kg for men and < 16 kg for women.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how early sports practice (ESP) in childhood and adolescence influences physical activity levels in adulthood, focusing on moderate to vigorous intensity.
  • Results show that ESP during childhood is linked to higher levels of vigorous and very vigorous physical activity in adulthood, but this association diminishes after considering demographic factors.
  • ESP during adolescence remains significantly associated with high vigorous physical activity levels in adulthood, highlighting adolescence as a crucial period for promoting healthy lifestyles.

Association of Cardiovascular Risk Factors between Adolescents and Their Parents Is Mitigated by Parental Physical Activity-A Cross-Sectional Study.

Int J Environ Res Public Health

October 2022

Post-Graduation Program in Movement Sciences, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, São Paulo State University (Unesp), Presidente Prudente 19060-900, Brazil.

Introduction: It is hypothesized that children's habits can be modulated by their parent's lifestyle. However, it is still not established whether the relationship between cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) in adolescents and their parents could be attenuated by parental physical activity levels.

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship of CVRF between adolescents and their parents according to parental physical activity level.

Department of Physical Education, Universidade Estadual Paulista Julio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP), Presidente Prudente, SP, Brazil.

Article Synopsis
  • High prevalence of back pain in adolescents is linked to sedentary behavior (SB), but the connection hasn't been fully explored in this age group.
  • The study involved 1,011 adolescents aged 10-17, examining their screen time and pain through the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire, alongside factors like physical activity and socioeconomic status.
  • Results indicated that both moderate and high SB are associated with neck pain in both sexes, but low back pain linked to SB was only significant in girls.

Introduction: The effective translation of evidence-based interventions has contributed to implementing actions that impact public policies and the population's health. However, there is a gap in the literature regarding the factors associated with the successful implementation of these interventions. Physical activity has been linked to higher cardiac autonomic modulation. However, it is not clear in the literature which type of intensity of physical activity (sedentary, light, moderate, or vigorous) could be related to better cardiac autonomic modulation and whether this relationship is similar in men and women. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between cardiac autonomic modulation and the different intensities of physical activity in men and women.

Background And Objectives: Physical education (PE) classes are among the main intervention strategies for increasing levels of physical activity (PA) to adolescent's health improvements. However, low levels of psychological satisfaction in physical education classes (PE satisfaction) and multiple associations with some factors as sex, age, sedentarism, sports practice, sleep, quality of life can act as moderators of levels of physical activity. Considering these aspects, this study aims to propose a theoretical model of multivariate relationships to verify the association between PE satisfaction with PA levels, considering the contribution of sports practice, health indicators, age, and sex on these relations.
