Neurodegeneration in Parkinson's disease is characterized by the accumulation of alpha-synuclein, a protein encoded by the gene, in neurons. In addition to mutations, many polymorphisms have been identified in this gene, and one of these is a dinucleotide microsatellite: -Rep1 The mechanisms by which specific configurations of Rep1 may contribute to the development of this disease have yet to be clarified. In our study, a relationship between long Rep1 alleles and Parkinson's was confirmed in the Russian population.

Article Synopsis
  • Lacunar cerebral infarction (LI) is linked to vascular dementia and worsens cognitive impairments, particularly in executive functions.
  • A study involving 30 LI patients sought to determine the relationship between spatial navigation ability and white matter integrity in those with mild cognitive impairment (LI-MCI) compared to those without (LI-Non MCI).
  • Results showed that LI-MCI patients exhibited greater deficits in spatial navigation tasks and had microstructural abnormalities in areas like the hippocampus that likely contribute to these navigational difficulties.
