Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are among the most severe types of cellular stressors with the ability to damage essential cellular biomolecules. Excess levels of ROS are correlated with multiple pathophysiological conditions including neurodegeneration, diabetes, atherosclerosis, and cancer. Failure to regulate the severely imbalanced levels of ROS can ultimately lead to cell death, highlighting the importance of investigating the molecular mechanisms involved in the detoxification procedures that counteract the effects of these compounds in living organisms.

Objective: The aim was to investigate whether pretreatment pain characteristics, psychological variables, and pelvic floor muscle (PFM) function predict the response to physical therapy (PT) in women with provoked vestibulodynia (PVD).
Materials And Methods: One hundred-five women diagnosed with PVD underwent 10 weekly sessions of individual PT comprising education, PFM exercises with biofeedback, manual therapy, and dilators. Treatment outcomes were evaluated at pretreatment, post-treatment, and 6-month follow-up and included pain intensity (numerical rating scale 0 to 10) and sexual function (Female Sexual Function Scale).

Purpose: Type 2 diabetes is associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular diseases, lowering the quality of life and increasing mortality rates of affected individuals. Circulating monocytes are tightly involved in the atherosclerosis process leading to cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and their inflammatory profile can be modified by exercise. Purpose: Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a rare neuropathic pain condition characterized by sensory, motor and autonomic alterations. Previous investigations have shown that transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) can alleviate pain in various populations, and that a combination of these treatments could provide greater hypoalgesic effects. In the present case report, we describe the effect of tDCS and TENS treatment on pain intensity and unpleasantness in a patient suffering from chronic CRPS.

Purpose: The primary objective was to evaluate the effect of autologous muscle-derived cell (AMDC) injections on the urethral sphincter morphometry compared to placebo injections. Secondary aims were to explore the reduction of stress incontinence episode frequency (IEF) and factors associated with the efficacy of AMDC.
Methods: This prospective randomized-controlled study compared the urethral sphincter volumes of participants who had received either an intra-sphincteric injection of 4 cc AMDC in injection media or 4 cc placebo solution, using a transperineal 3D/4D ultrasound at baseline and at 12 months.

Accumulating evidence reveal important applications of endogenous pain modulation assessment in healthy controls and in patients in clinical settings, as dysregulations in the balance of pain modulatory circuits may facilitate pain and promote chronification of pain. This article reviews data on pain modulation, focusing on the mechanisms and translational aspects of pain modulation from conditioned pain modulation (CPM) to placebo and nocebo effects in experimental and clinical pain. The specific roles of expectations, learning, neural and neurophysiological mechanisms of the central nervous system are briefly reviewed herein.

Background: Urinary incontinence (UI), one of the most prevalent health concerns confronting women aged over 60 years, affects up to 55% of older community-dwelling women-20-25% with severe symptoms. Clinical practice guidelines recommend individualized pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) as a first-line treatment for stress or mixed UI in women, although lack of human and financial resources limits delivery of this first-line treatment. Preliminary data suggest that group-based treatments may provide the answer.

Methods: This study was a prospective quasi-experimental pre-test, post-test cohort study of women with UI, aged 60 years and older. All participants completed a baseline assessment of UI severity and impact, using the 72-h bladder diary and the Incontinence Impact Questionnaire.

Provoked vestibulodynia (PVD) is a highly prevalent and debilitating condition yet its management relies mainly on non-empirically validated interventions. Among the many causes of PVD, there is growing evidence that pelvic floor muscle (PFM) dysfunctions play an important role in its pathophysiology. Multimodal physiotherapy, which addresses these dysfunctions, is judged by experts to be highly effective and is recommended as a first-line treatment.
