Ribose 2'O-methylation (Nm, ribomethylation) is the most abundant RNA modification present in rRNA. It has been shown that alterations in ribosomal 2'O-methylation at individual Nm sites likely reflect regulated cellular processes. Although several analytical approaches for Nm detection and profiling have been developed, a simple and affordable method for the screening and measurement of individual Nm sites in large numbers of tissue samples is required to examine their potential for clinical translation.

Papillomaviruses are small viruses able to cause disease not only in mammalians, but also in birds and reptiles. In recent years, a rising number of papillomaviruses have been identified in dogs and cats, totaling 24 canine papillomavirus (CPV) and six feline papillomavirus (FcaPV). The canine and feline papillomaviruses (CPVs and FcaPVs, respectively) are responsible for multiple lesions in these domestic species but the potential pathological relevance of some recently identified types remains to be determined.

Here, we show that syndecan-4 (SDC4), a transmembrane proteoglycan, is highly expressed in intestinal subtype gastric tumors and that this signature associates with patient poor survival. Resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy is the major cause of death from high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC). We hypothesise that detection of specific DNA methylation changes may predict platinum resistance in HGSOC. Using a publicly available "discovery" dataset we examined epigenomic and transcriptomic alterations between primary platinum-sensitive (n = 32) and recurrent acquired drug resistant HGSOC (n = 28) and identified several genes involved in immune and chemoresistance-related pathways.

Red-shifted and pH-responsive imidazole-based azo dyes with potent antimicrobial activity.

A novel route is described to obtain 2-aminoimidazole azo dyes with a unique substituent pattern in the heteroaryl unit that provides halochromic properties, exhibiting vibrant colours that change from magenta to deep blue. Potent antimicrobial properties against infectious yeasts were demonstrated. No cytotoxicity was detected for concentrations lower than 16 μg mL.
