Acid mine drainage (AMD) sludge is waste generated in the process of acid mine wastewater treatment, and the use of AMD sludge to prepare FeO to activate HO degradation pollutants is an effective means of resource utilization. In this study, the heterogeneous catalyst FeO-based composites were synthesized by a one-step method using AMD sludge as a raw material, and the FeO-based materials before and after catalysis were characterized by powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The effects of several key factors (pH values, HO content, TC concentration, and FeO content) of tetracycline (TC) degradation were evaluated.

Nitrogen removal from domestic sewage is usually limited by insufficient carbon source and electron donor. An economical solid carbon source was developed by composition of polyvinyl alcohol, sodium alginate, and corncob, which was utilized as external carbon source in the anaerobic anoxic oxic (AAO)-biofilter for the treatment of low carbon-to-nitrogen ratio domestic sewage, and the nitrogen removal was remarkably improved from 63.2% to 96.

The role of sediment oxygen demand (SOD) in causing dissolved oxygen (DO) depletion is widely acknowledged, with previous studies mainly focusing on chemical and biological SOD separately. However, the relationship between the putative functions of sediment microbes and SOD, and their impact on DO depletion in overlying water, remains unclear. In this study, DO depletion was observed in the downstream of the Gan River during the summer.

There is a lack of understanding about the bacterial, fungal and archaeal communities' composition of solid-phase denitrification (SPD) systems. We investigated four SPD systems with different carbon sources by analyzing microbial gene sequences based on operational taxonomic unit (OTU) and amplicon sequence variant (ASV). The results showed that the corncob-polyvinyl alcohol sodium alginate-polycaprolactone (CPSP, 0.

Biomass reburning is an efficient and low-cost way to control nitric oxide (NO), and the abundant potassium (K) element in biomass affects the heterogeneous reaction between NO and biochar. Due to the incomplete simulation of the NO heterogeneous reduction reaction pathway at the molecular level and the unclear catalytic effect of K element in biochar, further research is needed on the possible next reaction and the influencing mechanism of the element. After the products of the existing reaction pathways are referenced, two reasonably simplified biochar structural models are selected as the basic reactants to study the microscopic mechanism for further NO heterogeneous reduction on the biochar surface before and after doping with the K atom based on density functional theory.

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) derived from biochar takes a crucial role in transport and bioavailability toward contaminants; hence, it is undeniable that a thorough analysis of its properties is important. So far, the effect of pyrolysis temperature on the functional groups, components, and evolutionary sequence of manure-based biochar DOM has not been adequately investigated. Here, DOM was released from two typical livestock manures (cow and pig) at five pyrolysis temperatures (300 ~ 700°C), and it was explored in depth with the aid of moving window 2D correlation spectroscopy (MW-2D-COS) and heterogeneous 2D correlation spectroscopy (hetero-2D-COS).

This study selected a contamination site associated with pesticide production to investigate the impact of soil settlement induced by pumping on the migration and transformation of the principal pollutant, aniline. The TMVOC model was enhanced by incorporating the settlement effect and validated through a soil-column experiment, which examined aniline distribution, phase transformation, and remediation efficiency under soil settlement. The results indicate that the optimized TMVOC model can accurately simulate the impact of pumping-induced soil settlement on aniline removal.

Green and low carbon is an essential direction for the development of water treatment technology. Ozone catalysts prepared by the mixing method have advantages in terms of energy consumption and CO emissions, but are considered to be insufficient in catalytic efficiency and stability. In this paper, an Mn-Cu-Ce/AlO (MCCA) catalyst was prepared by optimizing the preparation conditions of the mixing method and the types and ratios of active components.

Targeted removal of three key refractory toxic organic compounds (TOMs) in 2-butenal manufacturing wastewater (2-BMW) is critical for enhancing pre-treatment by hydrolysis acidification (HA). We investigated the pre-treatment of 2-BMW with HA, coupled with ozonation in this study. Our results indicated that the removal rate of these key TOMs and the detoxification rate reached almost 100% and 46.

Phthalic acid esters (PAEs) are typical industrial chemicals used in China. PAEs have received considerable attention because of their ubiquity and potential hazard to humans and the ecology. The spatiotemporal distributions of six PAEs in the surface sediments of the Songhua River in the spring (March), summer (July), and autumn (September) are investigated in this study.

MFC anodic denitrification is more suitable for the coexistence of organic matter and nitrate in actual sewage, but the traditional carbon source has some problems such as high cost and difficulty of dosage control in MFC. Herein, corncob and polycaprolactone (PCL) were mechanically pulverized and mixed in the system of polyvinyl alcohol and sodium alginate, and cross-linked to prepare slow-release carbon source fillers (CPSP), which were added to the MFC anolyte to realize the coupling of solid-phase denitrification and anodic denitrification. Results showed the start-up period of MFC experimental group (MFC-C) with CPSP was slightly longer than the control group (MFC-0), but MFC-C's maximum output voltage (648.

However, studies on the phenotypic resistance and complete genotypic characterization of MARB in aquatic environments are lacking. In this study, a multi-resistant superbug (TR3) was screened by the selective pressure of multi-antibiotics from the activated sludge of the aeration tanks of urban wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in 5 different regions of China.

The benefits of applying manure directly compared to carbonized applications are controversial, and the impact of dissolved organic matter (DOM) released from human feces-based biochar (HFDOM) on the soil environment is not yet known. Comparing the properties of the HFDOM at different pyrolysis temperatures and its binding properties to heavy metals (HMs) can provide some valuable information for the application of human manure-based biochar for soil amendment or HM remediation in soils. The result of EEM-PARAFAC shows that HFDOM contains four components.

Aerobic granular sludge (AGS) is a layered microbial aggregate formed by the ordered self-assembly of different microbial populations. In this study, the outer layer (OL), middle layer (ML), and the inner layer (IL) of matured AGS were obtained by circular cutting. The adhesion of microorganisms in IL was significantly higher than that in OL and ML during the famine period, while the adhesion of microorganisms in ML and OL was significantly higher than that in IL during the feast period, confirming that the formation of AGS started in the famine period, and the feast period promoted the increase of particle size.

Micro-aeration hydrolysis acidification (HA) is an effective method to enhance the removal of toxic and refractory organic matter, but the difficulty in stable dosing control of trace oxygen limits its wide application. Membrane-based bubbleless aeration has been proved as an ideal aeration method because of its higher oxygen transfer rate, more uniform mass transfer, and lower cost than HA. However, the available information on its application in HA is limited.

The single and combined inhibitory effects of different nitrophenols on the anaerobic toxicity assay (ATA) of anaerobic sludge and the variations in the content of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) were investigated. The results indicated that 2,4-dinitrophenol (2,4-DNP) demonstrated the highest inhibitory effect, followed by 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) and 2-nitrophenol (2-NP), and the combined effects of binary and ternary nitrophenols induced additive toxicity. Furthermore, 2,4-DNP, the dominant toxic nitrophenol, at various concentrations and toxicant ratios, was the major contributor to the combined inhibitory effects of the nitrophenol mixtures.
