The wastewater treatment industry is an energy-intensive industry and one of the main sources of high warming potential greenhouse gases (GHG) such as CH and NO. The GHG reduction in this industry is an important part of achieving global climate goals. In 2019, there were 4 359 urban wastewater treatment plants in China, with a total wastewater treatment volume of 63.

Nitrogen removal from domestic sewage is usually limited by insufficient carbon source and electron donor. An economical solid carbon source was developed by composition of polyvinyl alcohol, sodium alginate, and corncob, which was utilized as external carbon source in the anaerobic anoxic oxic (AAO)-biofilter for the treatment of low carbon-to-nitrogen ratio domestic sewage, and the nitrogen removal was remarkably improved from 63.2% to 96.

The distribution and fate of 19 anthelmintic drugs (ADs) were investigated in two wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) using different wastewater treatment technologies, including anaerobic-anoxic-aerobic (A/O) biological process and cyclic activated sludge system (CASS) process. All the 19 ADs were found in the two WWTPs, with concentrations ranging from N.D.
