Atherosclerosis (AS), a pathological cause of cardiovascular disease, results from endothelial injury, local progressive inflammation, and excessive lipid accumulation. AS plaques rich in foam cells are prone to rupture and form thrombus, which can cause life-threatening complications. Therefore, the assessment of atherosclerotic plaque vulnerability and early intervention are crucial in reducing the mortality rates associated with cardiovascular disease.

Atherosclerosis (AS) management typically relies on therapeutic drug interventions, but these strategies typically have drawbacks, including poor site specificity, high systemic intake, and undesired side effects. The field of cell membrane camouflaged biomimetic nanomedicine offers the potential to address these challenges thanks to its ability to mimic the natural properties of cell membranes that enable enhanced biocompatibility, prolonged blood circulation, targeted drug delivery, and evasion of immune recognition, ultimately leading to improved therapeutic outcomes and reduced side effects. In this study, a novel biomimetic approach is developed to construct the M1 macrophage membrane-coated nanoprodrug (MM@CD-PBA-RVT) for AS management.

Lapatinib is a targeted therapeutic inhibiting HER2 and EGFR proteins. It is used for the therapy of HER2-positive breast cancer, although not all the patients respond to it. Using human blood serum samples from 14 female donors (separately taken or combined), we found that human blood serum dramatically abolishes the lapatinib-mediated inhibition of growth of the human breast squamous carcinoma SK-BR-3 cell line.

Traditionally, mass spectrometry (MS) output is the ion abundance plotted versus the ionic mass-to-charge ratio /. While employing only commercially available equipment, Charge Determination Analysis (CHARDA) adds a third dimension to MS, estimating for individual peaks their charge states starting from = 1 and color coding in / spectra. CHARDA combines the analysis of ion signal decay rates in the time-domain data (transients) in Fourier transform (FT) MS with the interrogation of mass defects (fractional mass) of biopolymers.

Rapamycin is a natural antifungal, immunosuppressive, and antiproliferative compound that allosterically inhibits mTOR complex 1. The ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) responsible for protein turnover is usually not listed among the pathways affected by mTOR signaling. However, some previous studies have indicated the interplay between the UPS and mTOR.

Persistent over-oxidation, inflammation and bacterial infection are the primary reasons for impaired wound repairing in diabetic patients. Therefore, crucial strategies to promote diabetic wound repairing involve suppressing the inflammatory response, inhibiting bacterial growth and decreasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) within the wound. In this work, we develop a multifunctional nanomedicine (HA@Cur/Cu) designed to facilitate the repairing process of diabetic wound.

Silkworm silk exhibits excellent mechanical properties, biocompatibility, and has potential applications in the biomedical sector. This study focused on enhancing the mechanical properties of Bombyx mori silk by overexpressing three bond-forming active proteins (BFAPs): AFP, HSP, and CRP in the silk glands of silkworms. Rheological tests confirmed increased viscoelasticity in the liquid fibroin stock solution of transgenic silkworms, and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) indicated that all three BFAPs participated in the interactions between fibroin molecular networks in transgenic silk.

WDR44 prevents ciliogenesis initiation by regulating RAB11-dependent vesicle trafficking. Here, we describe male patients with missense and nonsense variants within the WD40 repeats (WDR) of WDR44, an X-linked gene product, who display ciliopathy-related developmental phenotypes that we can model in zebrafish. The patient phenotypic spectrum includes developmental delay/intellectual disability, hypotonia, distinct craniofacial features and variable presence of brain, renal, cardiac and musculoskeletal abnormalities.

Successful simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation allows achieving euglycemia, stabilizing existing microvascular complications and slowing their progression, improving the patient's quality of life, lipid and calcium-phosphorus metabolism, reducing the risks of cardiovascular events. Therefore, in view of the patient's severe general condition due to prolonged intoxication, hyperglycemia and other complications of chronic kidney disease, the earliest possible surgical treatment with minimization of the patient's stay on dialysis therapy is crucial to improve the outcome of transplantation.

Unlabelled: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is preceded by asymptomatic changes in the geometry of the heart. The only symptoms of the beginning of cardiac remodeling and concomitant predictors of an unfavorable cardiovascular prognosis are: thickening of epicardial fat (EAT), secreting a number of adipokines, and cardiospecific miRNAs. To improve the effectiveness of prevention of CVD in young patients with DM1, a search was made for structural-functional and epigenetic markers.

Increased production of pro-inflammatory cytokines that accompanies inflammatory joint diseases may be accompanied by a decrease in the level of male sex hormones, and vice versa, the presence of hypogonadism in men increases the risk of developing certain rheumatic diseases. The review presents data on the relationship between testosterone deficiency and major inflammatory joint diseases, as well as the effect of testosterone replacement therapy on their manifestations.

Single-cell ATAC-seq (scATAC-seq) is a recently developed approach that provides means to investigate open chromatin at single cell level, to assess epigenetic regulation and transcription factors binding landscapes. The sparsity of the scATAC-seq data calls for imputation. Similarly, preprocessing (filtering) may be required to reduce computational load due to the large number of open regions.

Inorganic materials depleted of heavy stable isotopes are known to deviate strongly in some physicochemical properties from their isotopically natural counterparts. Here we explored for the first time the effect of simultaneous depletion of the heavy carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen isotopes on the bacterium E. coli and the enzymes expressed in it.

However, it is still unclear how the genetic variants of one of the key enzymes in lipid transport, lipoprotein lipase (LPL), are associated with the endocrine function of mesenchymal tissues in obesity. The current study was aimed at the investigation of the rs328 gene variant association with adipokines and myokines levels, as well as lipid metabolism indices in the blood of children and adolescents of both genders with obesity.
