Polymeric carbon nitride (CN) is currently the most potential nonmetallic photocatalyst, but it suffers from low catalytic activity due to rapid electron-hole recombination behavior and low specific surface area. The morphology control of CNis one of the effective methods used to achieve higher photocatalytic performance. Here, bulk, lamellar and coralloid CNwere synthesized using different chemical methods.

The development of fluorescent silica nanoparticles (SNP-RB) from natural amorphous silica and its performance as an () biosensor is described in this paper. SNP-RB was derived from silica recovered from geothermal installation precipitation and modified with the dye, Rhodamine B. The Fourier Infrared (FTIR) confirms the incorporation of Rhodamine B in the silica matrix.

This work aims to study the product characteristics of cellulose degradation not only by a hydrothermal process but also in combination with a sonication process. Herein, 4.3 mL of oxalic acid (HCO)-sodium chloride (NaCl) solution containing cellulose was placed into a stainless steel reactor (or the mixture was placed into the reactor after the sonication process for 1 hour); then, carbon dioxide (CO) was released for pressurization.

Natural melanin is recognized as a biocompatible photothermal agent because of its biologically derived nature and efficient photothermal conversion ability. Here, yak hair melanin (YM) is added to polyurethane (PU) for the fabrication of NIR-photoresponsive shape memory implants. The toxicity of the YM/PU composites is carried out by exposing them to human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) and mouse fibroblast (L929) cells lines for 24 h, while the toxicity is investigated by implanting the YM/PU composites in the mouse for two months.

As glucose hypometabolism in the brain is an early sign of Alzheimer´s dementia (AD), the diabetogenic drug streptozotocin (STZ) has been used to induce Alzheimer-like pathology in rat brain by intracereboventricular injection (icv-STZ). However, many details of the pathological mechanism of STZ in this AD model remain unclear. Here, we report metabolic and cholinergic effects of icv-STZ using microdialysis in freely moving animals.

Ni-Pt alloy thin films have been successfully synthesized and characterized; the films were prepared by the supercritical fluid chemical deposition (SFCD) technique from Ni(hfac)3HO and Pt(hfac) precursors by hydrogen reduction. The results indicated that the deposition rate of the Ni-Pt alloy thin films decreased with increasing Ni content and gradually increased as the precursor concentration was increased. The film peaks determined by X-ray diffraction shifted to lower diffraction angles with decreasing Ni content.

Whalers Bay (WB), Deception Island, is an environment that can drastically change its temperature within a few meters. The main forms of life inhabiting this environment are microorganisms, which, due to the high diversity and their adaptive potential, can survive and thrive under harsh stress conditions. However, the genetic potential and mechanisms to cope with fluctuating adverse conditions as well as what extent environmental variations shape the microbial community over the years it is still unknown in Antarctic environments.

Anaerobic systems for domestic sewage treatment, like septic tanks and anaerobic filters, are used in developing countries due to favorable economic and functional features. The anaerobic filter is used for the treatment of the septic tank effluent, to improve the COD removal efficiency of the system. The microbial composition and diversity of the microbiome from two wastewater treatment systems (factory and rural school) were compared through 16S rRNA gene sequencing using MiSeq 2 × 250 bp Illumina sequencing platform.

Petroleum is a very complex and diverse organic mixture. Its composition depends on reservoir location and conditions and changes once crude oil is spilled into the environment, making the characteristics associated with every spill unique. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are common components of the crude oil and constitute a group of persistent organic pollutants.

Although many advances have been achieved to treat aggressive tumours, cancer remains a leading cause of death and a public health problem worldwide. Among the main approaches for the discovery of new bioactive agents, the prospect of microbial secondary metabolites represents an effective source for the development of drug leads. In this study, we investigated the actinobacterial diversity associated with an endemic Antarctic species, Deschampsia antarctica, by integrated culture-dependent and culture-independent methods and acknowledged this niche as a reservoir of bioactive strains for the production of antitumour compounds.

Photothermal therapy (PTT) is an emerging therapeutic strategy in the treatment of cancer; however, a critical challenge remains in the rational design of synergistic nanoparticles as a potential photothermal transduction agent that can effectively enhance the therapeutic outcome of PTT for tumor ablation. Herein, we rationally designed, developed, and characterized hollow-structured CuS nanoparticles composited with carbon dots (CuSCDs), which demonstrated excellent photothermal conversion efficiency under a 808 nm laser irradiation with enhanced biocompatibility and reduced toxicity. Following coating with a macrophage membrane hybridized with T7 peptide on the surface of the proteasome inhibitor loaded CuSCD, CuSCDB@MMT7 exhibited targeted specificity to cancer cells with the characteristics of immunity escaping and enhanced transferrin receptor-mediated endocytosis.

Fluorescent thermometers with near-infrared (NIR) emission play an important role in visualizing the intracellular temperature with high resolution and investigating the cellular functions and biochemical activities. Herein, we designed and synthesized a donor-Π-acceptor luminogen, 2-([1,1'-biphenyl]-4-yl)-3-(4-(()-4-(diphenylamino)styryl) phenyl) fumaronitrile (TBB) by Suzuki coupling reaction. TBB exhibited twisted intramolecular charge transfer-based NIR emission, aggregation-induced emission, and temperature-sensitive emission features.

The vibrational spectroscopy of CS has been investigated many times in all three phases. However, there is still some ambiguity about the location of two of the modes in the solid state. The aim of this work was to locate all of the modes by inelastic neutron scattering (INS) spectroscopy, (which has no selection rules), and to use periodic density functional theory to provide a complete and unambiguous assignment of all the modes in the solid state.

Botanical pentacyclic triterpenes possessed a broad range of pharmacological activities such as anti-oxidant, anti-tumor, anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory activities. It is believed that the mechanisms involved in these bioactivities are due to the modulation of immune system. Recently, the pharmacological validation on immunomodulatory of pentacyclic triterpenes derived from higher plants is very limited and several existence review papers related for this group of compound have not been focused for this activity.
