Context: Previous studies have shown that the prevalence of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) may vary according to race/ethnicity, although a few studies have assessed women of different ethnicities who live in similar geographic and socioeconomic conditions.
Objective: To determine the prevalence of PCOS in an unselected multiethnic population of premenopausal women.
Design: A multicenter prospective cross-sectional study.
Background: This study presents the findings of a newborn screening (NBS) pilot project for 5q-spinal muscular atrophy (5q-SMA) in multiple regions across Russia for during the year 2022. The aim was to assess the feasibility and reproducibility of NBS for SMA5q in diverse populations and estimate the real prevalence of 5q-SMA in Russia as well as the distribution of patients with different number of SMN2 copies.
Methods: The pilot project of NBS here was based on data, involving the analysis of 202,908 newborns.
Newborn screening (NBS) for severe inborn errors of immunity (IEI), affecting T lymphocytes, and implementing measurements of T cell receptor excision circles (TREC) has been shown to be effective in early diagnosis and improved prognosis of patients with these genetic disorders. Few studies conducted on smaller groups of newborns report results of NBS that also include measurement of kappa-deleting recombination excision circles (KREC) for IEI affecting B lymphocytes. A pilot NBS study utilizing TREC/KREC detection was conducted on 202,908 infants born in 8 regions of Russia over a 14-month period.

Objective: To assess the enzymatic and non-enzymatic links of the glutathione system in pregnant women depending on the sleep quality.
Material And Methods: The study included 64 pregnant women aged 18 to 40 years. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI).

Unlabelled: The priority of state policy of the Russian Federation is to make conditions for sustainable social economic development of national regions, including the territories of the Arctic Zone. The successful solution of these tasks is possible only if there is sufficient amount of labor resources and at achieving positive dynamics of main demographic processes. The purpose of the study is to establish characteristics of both dynamics of main demographic processes and reproductive health of Northerners as exemplified by the Republic of Komi.

Tension-type headache (TTH) and migraine are two common primary headaches distinguished by clinical characteristics according to the 3 edition of the International Classification of Headache Disorders. Migraine is identified by specific features such as being more prevalent in females, being aggravated by physical activity, certain genetic factors, having photophobia, phonophobia, nausea, vomiting, or aura, and responding to specific drugs. Nonetheless, TTH and migraine share some common characteristics, such as onset occurring in the 20 s, and being triggered by psychological factors like stress, moderate pain severity, and mild nausea in chronic TTH.

The aim of this study was the development of a methodology for the integral study of the antagonistic activity of normal human microbiota against Staphylococcus aureus to enable direct selection (without prior isolation of pure cultures) of potentially highly efficient probiotic preparations. The selection of bacterial representatives of normal human nasal microbiota capable of antagonizing S. aureus was carried out using two complimentary methods: replica-plating and deferred antagonism procedures.

Objectives: The maternal near-miss case review (NMCR) cycle is a type of clinical audit aiming at improving quality of maternal healthcare by discussing near-miss cases. In several countries this approach has been introduced and supported by WHO and partners since 2004, but information on the quality of its implementation is missing. This study aimed at evaluating the quality of the NMCR implementation in selected countries within WHO European Region.

Polymorphisms of xenobiotic detoxification genes GSTT1 and GSTM1 and activity of glutathione system enzymes were studied in men with infertility. The frequency of deletion variant of GSTT1 gene in men with infertility was by 2 times higher than in fertile men. Deletion variant of GSTM1 gene was 1.

Comparative analysis of the parameters of LPO, antioxidant defense (AOD), and the thiol/disulfide system was performed in fertile and infertile males of reproductive age carrying different genotypes of the glutathione system genes. Blood plasma, blood hemolysate, and ejaculate served as specimens for biochemical studies. A decrease in glutathione S-transferase activity was found in blood and ejaculate specimens from fertile and infertile carriers of nonfunctional GSTT1(0/0)/GSTM1(0/0) genotypes.

Aim: To investigate the quality of sperm, total antioxidant activity, concentrations of -tocopherol and lipid peroxidation in men of reproductive age living in Ulan-Ude, Irkutsk, and Novosibirsk.
Materials And Methods: The analysis of sperm quality included measuring the volume and pH of the ejaculate, sperm cell count, the proportion of motile sperm cells of A and B categories.
Results: Healthy men living in Irkutsk were found to have 34.

Quality of sperm and some parameters of LPO reflecting primary and end stages of oxidation and levels of α-tocopherol and total antioxidant activity were studied in ejaculate samples from 130 men (mean age of 24 years) living in Ulan-Ude, Buryatia Republic. All participants took a part in survey and were examined by an andrologist. The observed peculiarities of LPO and antioxidant defense in Russian men, such as decreased level of substrate supply for the processes of LPO and α-tocopherol, attest to specificity of metabolic processes and development of compensatory reactions of the organism under physiological conditions.

Parameters of LPO reflecting primary and end stages of oxidation and total antioxidant activity were evaluated in the seminal fluid of young fertile men living in Novosibirsk. By the results of andrological examination and spermogram analysis, various reproductive disorders and abnormal spermogram (pathospermia) were found in 48 patients. Shifts towards activation of prooxidant processes in LPO-antioxidant defense metabolic system were observed in men with reproductive disorders and pathospermia.
