Bismuth oxyselenide (BiOSe) stands as a highly promising layered semiconductor with outstanding optical, electrical, and thermal properties. For the practical application of the material toward the devices, growing BiOSe directly on the amorphous substrate at low temperatures (<400 °C) is essential; however, the negatively charged bottom Se layer originating from alternating stacks of Se and [BiO] has hindered this process. Enhanced high-energy proton radiation hardness of ZnO thin-film transistors with a passivation layer.

Metal-oxide thin-film semiconductors have been highlighted as next-generation space semiconductors owing to their excellent radiation hardness based on their dimensional advantages of very low thickness and insensitivity to crystal structure. However, thin-film transistors (TFTs) do not exhibit intrinsic radiation hardness owing to the chemical reactions at the interface exposed to ambient air. In this study, significantly enhanced radiation hardness of AlO-passivated ZnO TFTs against high-energy protons with energies of up to 100 MeV is obtained owing to the passivation layer blocking interactions with external reactants, thereby maintaining the chemical stability of the thin-film semiconductor.

Water dynamics are investigated in binary osmolyte-water mixtures, exhibiting a microscopic heterogeneity driven by molecular aggregation, on the basis of molecular dynamics (MD) simulation studies. The protecting osmolyte TMAO molecules in solution are evenly dispersed without the formation of noticeable osmolyte aggregates, while the denaturant TMU molecules aggregate readily, generating microscopic heterogeneity in the spatial distribution of component molecules in TMU-water mixtures. A combined study of MD simulation with graph theoretical analysis and spatial inhomogeneity measurement with -values in the two osmolyte solutions revealed that the translational and rotational motions of water in the microheterogeneous environment of TMU-water mixtures are less hindered than those in the homogeneous media of TMAO-water mixtures.

The deposition of amyloid-β (Aβ) aggregates and metal ions within senile plaques is a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Among the modifications observed in Aβ peptides, -terminal truncation at Phe4, yielding Aβ, is highly prevalent in AD-affected brains and significantly alters Aβ's metal-binding and aggregation profiles. Despite the abundance of Zn(II) in senile plaques, its impact on the aggregation and toxicity of Aβ remains unexplored.

Selective synthesis of isomeric -acyl--sulfonyl and ,-acyl-sulfonyl hydrazides is achieved via palladium-catalyzed aminocarbonylation of aryl iodides with sulfonyl hydrazides under CO. The base's countercation, rather than its basicity, controls product isomerism. Conventional bases yield linear isomers, whereas sodium-based bases favor branched ones.

The suppression of tyrosinase (TYR), a key enzyme in melanogenesis, has been suggested as an effective strategy for preventing melanin accumulation. We previously discovered the novel chrysin derivative hydroxyethyl chrysin (HE-chrysin) through an irradiation technique, which exerted higher anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer activities than original chrysin. This study investigates the development and characterization of a novel composite material consisting of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) integrated with (UG) and zinc oxide (ZnO) as fillers. The synergistic effects of UG and ZnO were investigated, focusing on their ability to enhance the film's properties. UV-vis spectrophotometry demonstrated that the composite film effectively blocked all UV (UV-A and UV-B) and blue light wavelengths.

Zircaloy-4 (Zr-4) is widely used as the cladding material in nuclear power plants (NPPs) due to its excellent corrosion resistance and low neutron absorption cross-section.
