The hair follicle is a complex of mesenchymal and epithelial cells acquiring different properties and characteristics responsible for fulfilling its inductive and regenerative role. The epidermal and dermal crosstalk induces morphogenesis and maintains hair follicle cycling properties. The hair follicle is enriched with pluripotent stem cells, where dermal papilla (DP) cells and dermal sheath (DS) cells constitute the dermal compartment and the epithelial stem cells existing in the bulge region exert their regenerative role by mediating the epithelial-mesenchymal interaction (EMI).

Although there are studies on TV viewing and the health status of elderly, they do not present direct associations with specific variables. The aim of this study was to determine correlations between TV viewing variables and elderly health variables in older adults living alone. Data were collected from 50 elderly individuals with an average age of 82.

Purpose: This study aims to develop and implement an economic evaluation using a micro-costing approach to provide a precise and transparent analysis of the direct costs of cystoscopic procedures in Korean hospitals. The study seeks to identify key cost components and evaluate whether current reimbursement rates accurately reflect these direct costs.
Materials And Methods: Significant variations in cost items were identified across different studies.

Purpose: To describe the incidence and mortality of upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) from 2002-2020 using data from the Korean National Health Insurance Service, which contains data from the entire Korean population.
Materials And Methods: Reimbursement records for 43,255 patients diagnosed with primary UTUC (according to the International Classification of Disease 10th revision code C65 and C66) between 2002-2020 were retrieved. The study period was split into four: period I (2002-2005), period II (2006-2010), period III (2011-2015), and period IV (2016-2020).

Amphiphilic bottlebrush block copolymers (BBCs) with tadpole-like, coil-rod architecture can be used to self-assemble into functional polymer nanodiscs directly in water. The hydrophobic segments of the BBC were tuned via the ratio of ethoxy-ethyl glycidyl ether (EE) to tetrahydropyranyl glycidyl ether (TP) within the grafted polymer sidechains. In turn, this variation controlled the sizes, pH-responsiveness, and drug loading capacity of the self-assembled nanodiscs.

Background: People with diabetes often have increased blood pressure (BP) variability because of autonomic dysfunction and arterial stiffness, making it a critical factor in predicting clinical outcomes. We investigated the reproducibility of long-term visit-to-visit BP variability (VVV) and the minimum number of BP readings to reliably determine VVV in people with diabetes.
Methods: This multicenter retrospective study used data from electronic health records of the Korea University Medical Center database.

Recent studies suggest that calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) neurons in the parabrachial nucleus (PBN) represent aversive information and signal a general alarm to the forebrain. If CGRP neurons serve as a true general alarm, their activation would modulate both passive nad active defensive behaviors depending on the magnitude and context of the threat. However, most prior research has focused on the role of CGRP neurons in passive freezing responses, with limited exploration of their involvement in active defensive behaviors.

Objectives: Patients with advanced chronic kidney disease suffer from hypertension, and kidney transplantation (KT) has potential to induce hypertension resolution. We hypothesized that hypertension resolution after KT is associated with better KT outcomes.
Methods: We identified KT recipients (2006-2015) who had pretransplant hypertension.

Linking the macroscopic flow properties and nanoscopic structure is a fundamental challenge to understanding, predicting, and designing disordered soft materials. Under small stresses, these materials are soft solids, while larger loads can lead to yielding and the acquisition of plastic strain, which adds complexity to the task. In this work, we connect the transient structure and rheological memory of a colloidal gel under cyclic shearing across a range of amplitudes a generalized memory function using rheo-X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (rheo-XPCS).

In this study, we developed palladium-catalyzed dehydrogenative cyclization to transform 1-(2-aminoaryl)-3-arylpropan-1-ones into 2-arylquinolin-4(1)-ones, also known as aza-flavones which are the bioisosteres of flavones, in an atom-economic manner. This method exhibited excellent chemical compatibility with a broad substrate scope, accommodating up to 25 derivatives. Additionally, kinetic studies were performed to elucidate the reaction mechanism.

Torsion of extralobar pulmonary sequestration is a rare congenital anomalous condition that can manifest with various symptoms, including abdominal pain. However, a masslike lesion in the mediastinum can be easily overlooked when the clinician focuses only on abdominal pain. By using magnetic resonance imaging, a few features specific to the torsion of extralobar pulmonary sequestration can be identified, and that information will be helpful.

Background And Purpose: Tinnitus is a condition in which individuals perceive sounds, such as ringing or buzzing, without any external source. Although the exact cause is not fully understood, recent studies have indicated the involvement of nonauditory brain structures, including the limbic system. We aimed to compare the volumes of specific brain structures between patients with tinnitus and controls.

Protein immobilization technology is important in medical and industrial applications. We previously reported all-in-one in vitro selection, wherein a collagen-binding vascular endothelial growth factor (CB-VEGF) was identified from a fusion library of random and VEGF sequences. However, its interaction chemistry is mainly limited to the interaction established by the 20 canonical amino acids.

Roots absorb water and nutrients from the soil, support the plant's aboveground organs, and detect environmental changes, making them crucial targets for improving crop productivity. Roots are particularly sensitive to soil salinity, a major abiotic stress that poses a serious threat to global agriculture. In response to salt stress, plants suppress root meristem size, thus reducing root growth; however, the mechanisms underlying this growth restriction remain unclear.

Family therapy was introduced in South Korea in the 1970s and has been extensively applied in clinical and academic settings. However, despite the efficacy of using family therapy models from the United States for Korean families, existing models are unable to fully capture the nuances of the Korean family culture, limiting their full potential to help families in crises. Based on observations and counseling of over 1500 families in Korea, this paper presents a theoretical and clinical foundation, namely, the Korean Integrative Family Therapy Model.

Swine acute diarrhea syndrome coronavirus (SADS-CoV) is a novel porcine coronavirus that was recently identified in southern China in 2017. At present, there is a lack of nationwide epidemiological investigations of the newly emerged SADS-CoV. Because Vietnam is geographically adjacent to southern China, many diseases have spread from China to Vietnam.

Background: Patients with estrogen receptor (ER)-positive breast cancer (BC) can be treated with endocrine therapy targeting ER, however, metastatic recurrence occurs in 25% of the patients who have initially been treated. Secreted proteins from tumors play important roles in cancer metastasis but previous methods for isolating secretory proteins had limitations in identifying novel targets.
Methods: We applied an in situ secretory protein labeling technique using TurboID to analyze secretome from tamoxifen-resistant (TAMR) BC.
