Background: This study aimed to identify pathogens and factors that predict the outcome of severe COVID-19 by utilizing metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) technology.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data from 56 severe COVID-19 patients admitted to our hospital between December 2022 and March 2023. We analyzed the pathogen types and strains detected through mNGS and conventional microbiological testing and collected general patient information.

Introduction: The optimal dosage of recombinant human luteinizing hormone (r-hLH) and its impact on endometrial thickness (EMT) when administered alongside recombinant human follicle-stimulating hormone (r-hFSH) during controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) for fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection and embryo transfer are uncertain, which formed the aims of this systematic review and meta-analysis.
Method: A search was performed in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, EMBASE, CNKI, and Wanfang from its inception to 10 July 2023. Twenty-seven Randomized controlled trials comparing r-hFSH/r-hLH co-treatment with r-hFSH alone during fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection and embryo transfer (IVF/ICSI-ET) were included.

Introduction: fertilization (IVF) is a technology that assists couples experiencing infertility to conceive children. However, unsuccessful attempts can lead to significant physical and financial strain. Some individuals opt for electro-acupuncture (EA) during IVF, even though there is limited evidence regarding the efficacy of this practice.

Microplastics (MPs) have been detected in various human tissues. However, whether MPs can accumulate within tumors and how they affect the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) and therapeutic responses remains unclear. This study aimed to determine the presence of MPs in tumors and their potential effects on the TIME.

(γδ) T cells are a heterogeneous population of cells that play roles in inflammation, host tissue repair, clearance of viral and bacterial pathogens, regulation of immune processes, and tumor surveillance. Recent research suggests that these are the main skin cells that produce interleukin-17 (I-17). Furthermore, γδ T cells exhibit memory-cell-like characteristics that mediate repeated episodes of psoriatic inflammation.

Background: Although numerous studies have illustrated the connection between gut microbiota and endometriosis, a conspicuous gap exists in research focusing on the pathogenesis of endometriosis at various sites and its linkage with infertility.
Methods: In this study, we used a two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis to investigate the effect of gut microbiota on the development of endometriosis in different regions, including the uterus, ovary, fallopian tube, pelvic peritoneum, vagina, and rectovaginal septum, as well as the intestine. Additionally, we explored the correlation between gut microbiota and endometriosis-induced infertility.

Background: Cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) is one of the rarest ectopic pregnancies which may be associated with life-threatening complications. Owing to the rarity of CSP, little is known about it. This study aimed to evaluate the value of the first-trimester transvaginal sonography (TVS) diagnosis and the risk factors of CSP after in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET).

Objective: To explore the optimal models for predicting the formation of high-quality embryos in Poor Ovarian Response (POR) Patients with Progestin-Primed Ovarian Stimulation (PPOS) using machine learning algorithms.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 4,216 POR cycles who underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) / intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) at Sichuan Jinxin Xinan Women and Children's Hospital from January 2015 to December 2021. Based on the presence of high-quality cleavage embryos 72 h post-fertilization, the samples were divided into the high-quality cleavage embryo group (N = 1950) and the non-high-quality cleavage embryo group (N = 2266).

As 3D culture technology advances, new avenues have opened for the development of physiological human cancer models. These preclinical models provide efficient ways to translate basic cancer research into clinical tumor therapies. Recently, cancer organoids have emerged as a model to dissect the more complex tumor microenvironment.

Recurrent implantation failure (RIF) is a complex and poorly understood clinical disorder characterized by failure to conceive after repeated embryo transfers. Endometrial receptivity (ER) is a prerequisite for implantation, and ER disorders are associated with RIF. However, little is known regarding the molecular mechanisms underlying ER in RIF.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the associations of thyroid autoimmunity (TAI) with the number of oocytes retrieved (NOR), fertilization rate (FR), and embryo quality (EQ) in euthyroid women with infertility and diminished ovarian reserve (DOR).
Methods: This retrospective cohort study involved 1,172 euthyroid women aged 20-40 years with infertility and DOR who underwent an oocyte retrieval cycle. TAI was diagnosed in the presence of serum thyroperoxidase antibody (TPOAb) concentrations higher than 34 IU/ml and/or serum thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) concentrations exceeding 115.

Objective: Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) presents a formidable challenge for individuals undergoing fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET), forming both a clinical dilemma and a focal point for scientific inquiry. This study endeavors to investigate the intricate interplay between clinical features, such as age, body mass index (BMI), and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), and routine laboratory parameters, including sex hormones, blood composition, liver and thyroid functions, thyroid antibodies, and coagulation indicators, in RPL patients undergoing IVF-ET. By meticulously analyzing these variables, we aim to uncover the latent risk factors predisposing individuals to RPL.

Objective: Some epidemiological studies have shown that pregnant women who develop preeclampsia (PE) have elevated levels of testosterone in their maternal plasma compared to women with normal blood pressure during pregnancy, revealing a potential association between hyperandrogenism in women and PE. To explore the causal relationship between hyperandrogenism and PE, this study selected total testosterone (TT), bioavailable testosterone (BIOT), and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) as exposure factors and PE and chronic hypertension with superimposed PE as disease outcomes. Two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were used to genetically dissect the causal relationships between the three exposure factors (TT, BIOT, and SHBG) and the outcomes of PE and chronic hypertension with superimposed PE.

Trophoblasts play a crucial role in embryo implantation and in interacting with the maternal uterus. The trophoblast lineage develops into a substantial part of the placenta, a temporary extra-embryonic organ, capable of undergoing distinctive epigenetic events during development. The critical role of trophoblast-specific epigenetic signatures in regulating placental development has become known, significantly advancing our understanding of trophoblast identity and lineage development.

Growing concerns over declining male semen quality and rising infertility have shifted attention to male fertility. Sperm cryopreservation emerges as a crucial tool in preserving male fertility, especially for patients who need proactive preservation, such as cancer patients before undergoing radiation or chemotherapy. Although cryopreservation does not directly address infertility, effective preservation can support future fertility.

Background: Dysfunction of motile cilia, including respiratory cilia and sperm flagella, typically leads to primary ciliary dyskinesia and male infertility or low fertility in humans. Genetic defects of LRRC6 have been associated with primary ciliary dyskinesia and asthenozoospermia due to abnormal ultrastructure of ciliated axonemes.
Objectives: To identify novel mutations of the LRRC6 gene related to multiple morphological abnormalities of the sperm flagella and male infertility and investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms involved.
