Background: The rising prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is a significant public health concern, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. This study aimed to explore the association between physical activity levels, overweight/obesity, and T2DM in a nationwide survey of Nepalese adults.

Methods: This was a secondary analysis of the 2019 non-communicable diseases (NCD) risk factors STEPS survey conducted in Nepal.

Objective: Most families with heritable neuromuscular disorders do not receive a molecular diagnosis. Here we evaluate diagnostic utility of exome, genome, RNA sequencing, and protein studies and provide evidence-based recommendations for their integration into practice.

Methods: In total, 247 families with suspected monogenic neuromuscular disorders who remained without a genetic diagnosis after standard diagnostic investigations underwent research-led massively parallel sequencing: neuromuscular disorder gene panel, exome, genome, and/or RNA sequencing to identify causal variants.

Background: Autoantibodies against interleukin-12 (anti-interleukin-12) are often identified in patients with thymoma, but opportunistic infections develop in only some of these patients. Interleukin-12 (with subunits p40 and p35) shares a common subunit with interleukin-23 (subunits p40 and p19). In a patient with disseminated infection, the identification of both anti-interleukin-23 and anti-interleukin-12 prompted further investigation.

Objective: To describe a novel RoboSling technique performed at the time of robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) and its utility for enhancing urinary function recovery postoperatively.

Materials And Methods: The surgical technique involves harvesting a vascularised, fascial flap from the peritoneum on the posterior aspect of the bladder. Following completion of prostatectomy, the autologous flap is tunnelled underneath the bladder and incorporated into the rectourethralis and vertical longitudinal detrusor fibres at the posterior bladder neck with a modified Rocco suture.

Background: The prognostic role of catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with heart failure (HF) remains uncertain, with guideline recommendations largely based on a single trial. We conducted a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the prognostic impact of AF ablation in patients with HF.

Methods: Electronic databases were searched for RCTs comparing 'AF ablation' versus 'other care' (medical therapy and/or atrioventricular node ablation with pacing) in patients with HF.

Background: Variants in have been recently associated with a spectrum of neurological disease encompassing isolated dystonia to fever-related neurological decompensation, movement disorders and leukodystrophy.

Case: A 32-year old patient presented with childhood-onset episodes of neurological decompensation after febrile illness, progressive anarthria, dystonia and spasticity. The T2/FLAIR MRI showed bilateral posterolateral putamen hyperintensities and white matter changes suggestive of leukodystrophy.

Aims: Biodegradable polymer drug-eluting stents (BP-DES) were developed in hopes of reducing the risk of stent thrombosis. The comparison of this new stent platform with second-generation durable polymer drug-eluting stents (DP-DES) has not been well described. We, therefore, performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the safety and efficacy profiles of BP-DES versus second-generation DP-DES in patients with coronary artery disease.

Cryopyrin-associated periodic syndrome (CAPS) is a monogenetic auto-inflammatory disorder with systemic manifestations. Innate immune system aberrance is seen in both CAPS and erythema nodosum and this case may point to a previously unknown association. In pediatric patients with EN and systemic features, the possibility of underlying CAPS should be considered.

Introduction: Despite improvements in revascularization, major amputation remains a significant part of the case-mix in vascular surgical units. These patients tend to be elderly with complex pathology, resulting in poor outcomes and longer lengths of stay (LOS).

Aim: This series review provides a description of the patient complexities and outcomes in an Australian cohort undergoing major lower limb amputation for peripheral arterial disease.

In the treatment of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, a persistently positive [F]fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (PET) scan typically carries a poor prognosis. In this prospective multi-center phase II study, we sought to establish whether treatment intensification with R-ICE (rituximab, ifosfamide, carboplatin, and etoposide) chemotherapy followed by 90Y-ibritumomab tiuxetan-BEAM (BCNU, etoposide, cytarabine, and melphalan) for high-risk diffuse large B-cell lymphoma patients who are positive on interim PET scan after 4 cycles of R-CHOP-14 (rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, and prednisone) can improve 2-year progression-free survival from a historically unfavorable rate of 40% to a rate of 65%. Patients received 4 cycles of R-CHOP-14, followed by a centrally-reviewed PET performed at day 17-20 of cycle 4 and assessed according to International Harmonisation Project criteria.

The long-term health consequences of war service remain unclear, despite burgeoning scientific interest. A longitudinal cohort study of a random sample of Australian Vietnam veterans was designed to assess veterans' postwar physical and mental health 36 years after the war (2005-2006) and to examine its relation to Army service, combat, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) assessed 14 years previously (1990-1993). Prevalences in veterans (n = 450) were compared with those in the Australian general population.

Background: Whereas there are case reports of laparoscopy in patients with ventriculoperitoneal shunts, there are no studies assessing the potential failure of shunt valves with the increased intra-abdominal pressure of laparoscopy. This study aims to assess this factor.

Methods: An in vitro model was used to assess the potential for retrograde failure of ventriculoperitoneal shunt valves in a commonly used shunt.
