Introduction: 24 % of abortion in Italy are repeated procedure. The cause of repeated abortion can be traced back to the inadequacy of the contraceptive counseling during the previous admission or to the adoption of an ineffective contraception method. This study aims to evaluate the Italian situation on the perceived quality of contraceptive counselling by patients undergoing abortion.

Mandibular fractures are the second most common maxillofacial fractures. The prevalent treatment for this kind of fractures is either a surgical procedure such as maxillomandibular fixation or open reduction and internal fixation or a combination of both. Sometimes the patients might develop locoregional postoperative complications.

Introduction: Intussusception occurs when a more proximal portion of the bowel (intussusceptum) invaginates into the more distal bowel (intussuscipiens). The pathomechanism is thought to involve altered bowel peristalsis at the intraluminal lesion, which is then a lead point for the intussusceptum. Intestinal intussusception is rare in adults, accounting for approximately 1 % of all bowel obstructions.

Haemostasis and thrombosis are closely linked, so that any anticoagulant strategy available today that reduces the thrombotic risk inevitably increases the bleeding risk. However, epidemiological and experimental evidence suggests that inhibiting the contact pathway-the first phase of the intrinsic coagulation pathway-and especially factor XI (FXI) achieves the objective of preventing thrombosis with minimal interference on the haemostatic process. Several pharmacological strategies that act by inhibiting FXI are being studied in clinical trials.

Objective: To clarify the role of electroencephalography (EEG) as a promising marker of severity in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). We characterized the brain spatio-temporal patterns activity at rest by means of both spectral band powers and EEG microstates and correlated these features with clinical scores.
Methods: Eyes closed EEG was acquired in 15 patients with ALS and spectral band power was calculated in frequency bands, defined on the basis of individual alpha frequency (IAF): delta-theta band (1-7 Hz); low alpha (IAF - 2 Hz - IAF); high alpha (IAF - IAF + 2 Hz); beta (13 - 25 Hz).

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is one of the most threatening solid malignancies. Molecular and cellular mediators that activate paracrine signalling also regulate the dynamic interaction between pancreatic cancer cells and nerves. This reciprocal interface leads to perineural invasion (PNI), defined as the ability of cancer cells to invade nerves, similar to vascular and lymphatic metastatic cascade.

Air pollutants are a complex mixture of gaseous substances and particulate matter (PM). Each component potentially has specific harmful effects on human health, but several experimental and clinical studies have shown a strong impact of fine particles on major adverse cardiovascular events. Most of the available evidence concerns the effects of exposure to PM with a diameter of <2.

Objective: Cranial autonomic symptoms (CAS), including conjunctival injection, tearing, nasal congestion or rhinorrhea, eyelid edema, miosis or ptosis, and forehead or facial sweating ipsilateral to headache, are often reported by patients with migraine during headache attacks. CAS is a consequence of the activation of the trigeminovascular system, which is the target of monoclonal antibodies acting on the CGRP pathway. Therefore, we hypothesized that patients with CAS might have higher trigeminovascular activation than those without CAS leading to a better response to anti-CGRP treatments.

Background: Palmitoylethanolamide is reported to solve pain and neuroinflammation in different models of chronic and neurodegenerative diseases. Some concerns have been illustrated for cautiously interpreting the available literature on the topic. Specifically, there is a lack of evidence about palmitoylethanolamide and female chronic pelvic pain.

Background And Aims: Cryptogenic stroke (CS) is associated with a high rate of recurrences and adverse outcomes at long-term follow-up, especially due to its unknown etiology that often leads to ineffective secondary prevention. Asymptomatic atrial fibrillation (AF) could play an important pathophysiological role. Some studies have pointed to left atrial (LA) and left ventricular (LV) systolic and diastolic dysfunction as surrogate markers of AF.

Purpose: Axillary management remains unclear when sentinel lymph node (SLN) results are positive in cN0 patients with breast cancer (BC). The trial ACOSOG Z0011 represented a revolution with axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) omission in SLN+ patients, despite critiques regarding non-uniformity of radiation fields. We conducted an observational study (LISEN) where whole breast radiotherapy (WBRT) was planned with tangential fields without nodal irradiation in patients eligible for the Z0011 trial.

Background: Monoclonal antibodies acting on the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) or its receptor have changed migraine preventive treatment. Those treatments have led to reconsidering the outcomes of migraine prevention. Available data mostly considered benefits in terms of relative efficacy (percent or absolute decrease in monthly migraine days [MMDs] or headache days compared with baseline).

We reported gender-specific data on the efficacy and safety of erenumab, a monoclonal antibody antagonizing the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor. Our pooled patient-level analysis of real-world data included patients treated with erenumab and followed up for 12 weeks. We considered the following outcomes at weeks 9-12 of treatment compared with baseline: 0-29%, 30-49%, 50-75%, and ≥75% responder rates, according to the decrease in monthly headache days (MHDs), rate of treatment stopping, change in MHDs, monthly migraine days (MMDs), monthly days of acute medication and triptan use, and Headache Impact Test-6 (HIT-6) score from baseline to weeks 9-12.
