Background: Idiopathic ventricular fibrillation (IVF) can be associated with undetected distinct conditions such as microstructural cardiomyopathic alterations (MiCM) or Purkinje (Purk) activities with structurally normal hearts.
Objectives: This study sought to evaluate the characteristics of recurrent VF recorded on implantable defibrillator electrograms, associated with these substrates.
Methods: This was a multicenter collaboration study.

Introduction: Primary bone tumors encompass a range of rare and diverse lesions. Pathological diagnosis poses significant challenges, with histological discrepancies extensively studied in soft tissue sarcomas but lacking specific investigation in bone lesions. This study aimed to determine the rate of major diagnostic discrepancies in primary bone tumors, assessing whether initial histological analysis within an expert referral center network reduces this rate and final diagnostic delay.

Background: White matter hyperintensities (WMH), a biomarker of small vessel disease, are often found in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and their advanced detection and quantification can be beneficial for research and clinical applications. To investigate WMH in large-scale multicenter studies on cognitive impairment and AD, appropriate automated WMH segmentation algorithms are required. This study aimed to compare the performance of segmentation tools and provide information on their application in multicenter research.

Background: Iron metabolism imbalance could contribute to physical deconditioning experienced by astronauts due to its essential role in energy metabolism, cellular respiration, and oxygen transport.
Objectives: In this clinical exploratory study, we wanted to determine whether artificial gravity (AG) training modulated iron metabolism, RBC indices, and body lean mass in healthy male and female participants exposed to head-down tilt (HDT) bed rest, the reference ground-based model of microgravity.
Methods: We recruited 8 healthy female and 16 healthy male participants who were all exposed to HDT bed rest for 60 d.

Background: There is uncertainty about the relevance of animal foods to the pathogenesis of ischemic heart disease (IHD). We examined meat, fish, dairy products, and eggs and risk for IHD in the pan-European EPIC cohort (European Prospective Investigation Into Cancer and Nutrition).
Methods: In this prospective study of 409 885 men and women in 9 European countries, diet was assessed with validated questionnaires and calibrated with 24-hour recalls.

Other than the influence of ionizing radiation and benign thyroid disease, little is known about the risk factors for differentiated thyroid cancer (TC) which is an increasing common cancer worldwide. Consistent evidence shows that body mass is positively associated with TC risk. As excess weight is a state of chronic inflammation, we investigated the relationship between concentrations of leptin, adiponectin, C-reactive protein, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-10 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and the risk of TC.

Objective: Low sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) is a consistent risk factor for type 2 diabetes, particularly in women. Coffee consumption has been associated with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, but its effects on SHBG are less known.
Design And Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 2377 nondiabetic pre- and postmenopausal women from the E3N cohort study whose baseline SHBG was measured.

Aims: Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) confers sustained therapeutic benefits to patients suffering from congestive heart failure (CHF) due to systolic dysfunction associated with ventricular dyssynchrony. Biventricular (BiV) pacing has, thus far, been the preferred method, as it corrects both electrical and mechanical dyssynchrony. Left ventricular (LV) only pacing, which has conferred similar benefits in pilot studies, may be an alternative treatment method.
