A Universal Biomacromolecule-Enabled Assembly Strategy for Constructing Multifunctional Aerogels with 90% Inorganic Mass Loading from Inert Nano-Building Blocks.

Small

August 2024

Hubei Key Laboratory of Biomass Resource Chemistry and Environmental Biotechnology, Hubei International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Base of Sustainable Resource and Energy, School of Resource and Environmental Science, Wuhan University, Wuhan, 430079, China.

Inert inorganic nano-building blocks, such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and boron nitride (BN) nanosheets, possess excellent physicochemical properties. However, it remains challenging to build aerogels with these inert nanomaterials unless they are chemically modified or compounded with petrochemical polymers, which affects their intrinsic properties and is usually not environmentally friendly. Here, a universal biomacromolecule-enabled assembly strategy is proposed to construct aerogels with 90 wt% ultrahigh inorganic loading.

Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a malignant digestive system tumor with a very poor prognosis. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is mediated by a variety of readers and participates in important regulatory roles in PC. Based on TCGA_PAAD, ICGC_AU_PAAD, ICGC_CA_PAAD, GSE28735 and GSE62452 datasets, We mapped the multi-omics changes of m6A readers in PC and found that m6A readers, especially IGF2BP family genes, had specific changes and were significantly associated with poor prognosis.

In this study, the significance of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) in promoting the progression of atherosclerosis was investigated by inducing the differentiation of macrophages into the M2 subtype within a high-fat diet-induced ApoE -/- mouse model. The study also evaluated the effects of β2-AR agonists and blockers on this process. Ox-LDL was found to have significantly promoted the differentiation of macrophages into the M2 type and induced related functional alterations.

Breast cancer (BC) has emerged as an extremely destructive malignancy, causing significant harm to female patients and society at large. Proteomic research holds great promise for early diagnosis and treatment of diseases, and the integration of proteomics with genomics can offer valuable assistance in the early diagnosis, treatment, and improved prognosis of BC patients. In this study, we downloaded breast cancer protein expression data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and combined proteomics with genomics to construct a proteomic-based prognostic model for BC.

LncRNA MEG3: Targeting the Molecular Mechanisms and Pathogenic causes of Metabolic Diseases.

Curr Med Chem

September 2024

Third-grade Pharmacological Laboratory on Traditional Chinese Medicine, State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China Three Gorges University, Yichang, 443002, China.

Background: Non-coding RNA is a type of RNA that does not encode proteins, distributed among rRNA, tRNA, snRNA, snoRNA, microRNA and other RNAs with identified functions, where the Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) displays a nucleotide length over 200. LncRNAs enable multiple biological processes in the human body, including cancer cell invasion and metastasis, apoptosis, cell autophagy, inflammation, etc. Recently, a growing body of studies has demonstrated the association of lncRNAs with obesity and obesity-induced insulin resistance and NAFLD, where MEG3 is related to glucose metabolism, such as insulin resistance.

The application of immunosuppressive agents and targeted drugs has opened a novel approach for the treatment of hematological tumors, and the application of tyrosine kinase inhibitors for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia is one of the landmark breakthroughs that has considerably improved the prognosis of CML patients. However, with the extensive use of TKI, the co-infection of CML patients has become increasingly apparent, especially regarding infectious diseases such as hepatitis B and COVID-19. The underlying mechanism may be related to the inhibition of the immune function by TKI.

Lithium chloride promotes diabetic corneal epithelial wound healing by activating the Wnt/β‑catenin signaling pathway.

Exp Ther Med

August 2023

Department of Ophthalmology, Affiliated Renhe Hospital of China Three Gorges University, Second Clinical Medical College of China, Three Gorges University, Yichang, Hubei 443000, P.R. China.

Corneal epithelial abnormality is a common manifestation of diabetic keratopathy and leads to delayed epithelial wound healing. The Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway participates in the development, differentiation and stratification of corneal epithelial cells. The present study compared the expression of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway related factors, including Wnt7a, β-catenin, cyclin D1 and phosphorylated (p-) glycogen synthase kinase 3 β (Gsk3b) between normal and diabetic mouse corneas, by reverse transcription-quantitative PCR, western blotting and immunofluorescence staining.

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a major concern in clinical treatment as well as postmarketing surveillance, showing an urgent requirement for the development of protective medications. Celastrol (Cel), a highly active natural product extracted from the roots of Tripterygium wilfordii, has a potential liver protective activity due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. However, the further application of Cel to DILI remains a challenge because of its short half-life, low solubility, and toxic side effects.
