Yersinia pseudotuberculosis (Ypt) is a gram-negative bacterium that infects both humans and animals primarily through fecal‒oral transmission. While Ypt causes acute gastroenteritis in humans, an association with Kawasaki disease (KD), a disease that primarily affects infants and young children and causes multisystemic vasculitis, has also been suspected. Although KD represents a significant health concern worldwide, the highest annual incidence rate is reported in Japan.

We investigated the potential efficacy of abaloparatide (Abalo) and zoledronate (ZA) combination therapy for accelerating femoral union in a rat osteotomy model. Nine-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups ( = 14 per group): control, abaloparatide (Abalo, 30 μg/kg via subcutaneous injection [s.c.

Background Whiplash-associated disorders are sequelae of traffic accidents that frequently result in sustained pain and disability due to a broader spectrum of symptoms than typical neck pain. Several studies have used the length of time from injury to the completion of insurance claims as a measure of recovery time for patients with whiplash-associated disorders. However, studies on the initial factors in patients whose treatment exceeds 90 days are lacking.

Introduction: Dementia is caused by various diseases, including Alzheimer's disease dementia (ADD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). We often encounter patients with dementia who have limited shoulder joint range of motion (ROM), especially those with behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). But the relationship between the diseases of dementia and restricted shoulder joint ROM is currently unclear.

Carbonated drinks have been reported to increase muscle activity during swallowing compared with water. Older adults who habitually consume carbonated drinks may use their swallowing-related muscles to a greater extent, thereby preserving their swallowing function. This study investigated the relationship between habitual carbonated drink intake, amount of carbonated drink consumed, and subjective difficulty in swallowing in community-dwelling older adults.

Background: Tongue-strengthening exercises may be used at home to strengthen swallowing-related oropharyngeal muscles in community-dwelling older adults with sarcopenic dysphagia; however, evidence of their effectiveness remains unclear.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of a home-based tongue-strengthening exercise (hTSE) using portable tool on swallowing-related oropharyngeal muscles in community-dwelling older adults with sarcopenic dysphagia.
Methods: Forth community-dwelling older adults with sarcopenic dysphagia were enrolled in the study.

Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a severe α-synucleinopathy facilitated by glial reactions; the cerebellar variant (MSA-C) preferentially involves olivopontocerebellar fibres with conspicuous demyelination. A lack of aggressive models that preferentially involve olivopontocerebellar tracts in adulthood has hindered our understanding of the mechanisms of demyelination and neuroaxonal loss, and thus the development of effective treatments for MSA. We therefore aimed to develop a rapidly progressive mouse model that recaptures MSA-C pathology.

Background: Construction of an intervention method for the cognitive dysfunction of patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is needed. Exercise-based comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation is a potentially effective approach that can improve cognitive function in ACS patients. This study aimed to investigate the effect of cardiac rehabilitation on cognitive function in ACS patients through a systematic review.

This study aimed to investigate the rate of sedentary behaviour and differences in physical outcomes and activities of daily living (ADL) based on sedentary behaviour time of hospitalized older cardiovascular disease patients undergoing phase I cardiac rehabilitation. Older cardiovascular disease patients were enrolled from October 2020 to September 2023 and were divided into the high sedentary behaviour group (≥ 480 min/day) and low sedentary behaviour group (< 480 min/day). Patients' clinical characteristics, usual gait speed, and Five Times Sit to Stand Test time were compared as indices of physical outcomes.

[Purpose] In Japan, one measure against the novel coronavirus disease-2019 infection involves the public use of surgical masks. Research indicates that exercising while wearing a mask increases the physical burden, particularly affecting young people during high-intensity exercise. This study examined the effects of wearing masks while running in male university students.

Introduction: In psychotherapy, it is important to establish and deepen a therapeutic trusting relationship, but patients who have experienced extreme adversity in childhood tend to have difficulty in building such a relationship. This paper reports a case of fibromyalgia with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in which a nonverbal approach was successful in building a trusting relationship.
Case And Methods: The patient is a woman in her late 40s.

Strengths-Based Nursing and Healthcare (SBNH) has garnered attention in the field of psychiatric nursing in Japan, yet its adoption in other nursing sectors remains limited. Japan is currently facing the formidable challenge of a rapidly aging population and growing demand for healthcare and welfare services. To address these issues, a shift from hospital-based care to comprehensive community care is underway, underscoring the importance of nurses in community settings, where focusing on client strengths is essential.

The Revised Hasegawa Dementia Scale (HDS-R) is the most widely used instrument to screen for dementia in Japan and is similar to the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). The development of a quicker and simpler screening tool, the Japanese Old Stories Cognitive Scale (JOSS), was previously reported. A total of 953 new outpatients from 8 memory clinics in Japan completed the JOSS, HDS-R, and MMSE at first visit.

Purpose: It has recently been recommended that Rate of Force Development (RFD) be evaluated in addition to maximal muscle strength. There are no studies on RFD of toe pressure strength, and its importance in older adults and the extent to which it is associated with aging needs to be clarified. This study purpose was to examine the association between the RFD of toe pressure strength and timed up and go test (TUG) in an age-specific study.

Background: In Japan, Alzheimer's disease dementia (AD) is the most common cognitive disease, and the most widely used dementia screening tests are the Revised Hasegawa Dementia Scale (HDS-R) and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). This study sought to elucidate the relationships of the individual domains of these tests with age and duration of school education in a large group of patients with AD.
Methods: Participants were 505 new outpatients diagnosed with AD who completed the HDS-R and MMSE at the first visit.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effects of a self-monitoring intervention to promote an increase in physical activity, as measured by step count, and reduce sedentary behavior in older people covered by the long-term care insurance system (LTCI) in Japan.
Methods: This was a randomized controlled trial conducted at a daycare center from October 2022 to January 2023. Fifty-two older adults with LTCI who were able to walk with or without aids were assigned to an intervention (n = 26) group and control (n = 26) group.

Background: Malignant femoral soft tissue tumors are occasionally resected together with the femoral nerves, but this can cause loss of knee extensor muscle activity. To the best of our knowledge, no previous reports have detailed the gait analysis of such cases in combination with electromyography. Herein, we report the gait analysis of a patient who underwent left groin synovial sarcoma and left femoral nerve resection 12 years ago.

Visual-motor illusion (VMI) elicits kinesthetic sensation from visual stimulation. We have previously performed ankle motion VMI with resistance applied to the ankle joint on the paralyzed side (power-VMI (P-VMI)) and ankle motion VMI without resistance (standard-VMI (S-VMI)) to activate the tibialis anterior (TA) muscle in stroke-paralyzed patients and compared sit-to-stand (STS) durations, but these studies did not measure TA activity during the STS movement. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of different intensities of visual stimuli presented during VMI on TA and STS movement.
