Background: Postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) after major abdominal surgery leads to poor outcomes. The Hypotension Prediction Index (HPI) may aid in managing intraoperative hemodynamic instability. This study assessed if HPI-guided therapy reduces moderate-to-severe AKI incidence in moderate-to-high-risk elective abdominal surgery patients.

This case report investigates elevated serum concentrations of inhaled tobramycin in a patient with chronic kidney disease. The patient, a man in his early 80s with complex comorbidities, underwent tobramycin inhalation therapy for chronic respiratory infections caused by Despite the strategic localised treatment approach, unexpectedly high plasma tobramycin concentrations were observed. After a dosage adjustment guided by a pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic model, a final inhalation dose of 300 mg of tobramycin was determined at a 24-hour interval.

Introduction: Until now, there has been limited evidence, primarily from US cohorts, focusing on frailty as a patient-oriented outcome after liver transplantation (LT). Our study aimed to explore the relationship between pre- and post-LT frailty in a multicenter European cohort of outpatients with cirrhosis undergoing LT.
Methods: We conducted a prospective analysis of data from 180 LT recipients recruited between 2018 and 2020 from 5 Spanish centers.

BACKGROUND: Sequential nab-paclitaxel plus gemcitabine followed by modified FOLFOX-6 (oxaliplatin, leucovorin, and 5-fluorouracil) (nab-P/Gem-mFOLFOX) showed a good safety and clinical profile in metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (mPDAC) in the phase I SEQUENCE trial. METHODS: The safety and efficacy of sequential nab-P/Gem-mFOLFOX was compared with standard nab-paclitaxel plus gemcitabine (nab-P/Gem) as first-line treatment in a multi-institutional, randomized, open-label, phase II trial in patients with untreated mPDAC. We randomly assigned patients in a 1:1 ratio to receive nab-P/Gem on days 1, 8, and 15 followed by mFOLFOX on day 29 of a 6-week cycle (experimental group) or nab-P/Gem on days 1, 8, and 15 of a 4-week cycle (control group).

Introduction: Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases and affects around 334 million people worldwide. The estimated prevalence of severe asthma is 3-10% of the asthmatic population. Mepolizumab has demonstrated efficacy in reducing exacerbations, oral corticosteroid use, and improving quality of life, asthma control, and lung function in patients with severe eosinophilic asthma (SEA).

Introduction: Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is primarily confined to the peritoneal cavity. When primary complete surgery is not possible, neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) is provided; however, the peritoneum-plasma barrier hinders the drug effect. The intraperitoneal administration of chemotherapy could eliminate residual microscopic peritoneal tumor cells and increase this effect by hyperthermia.

Importance: Peritoneal metastasis in patients with locally advanced colon cancer (T4 stage) is estimated to recur at a rate of approximately 25% at 3 years from surgical resection and is associated with poor prognosis. There is controversy regarding the clinical benefit of prophylactic hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in these patients.
Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of intraoperative HIPEC in patients with locally advanced colon cancer.

Imperial Centre for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, Department of Primary Care and Public Health, Imperial College, London, UK.
Background And Aims: The European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) Lipid Clinics Network promoted a survey in order to identify and understand how and when lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is tested and clinically evaluated in lipid clinics throughout Europe, and the challenges that may prevent evaluation from being carried out.
Methods: This survey was divided into three areas of inquiry: background and clinical setting information of clinicians, questions for doctors who claimed not to measure Lp(a), in order to understand what were the reasons for not ordering the test, and questions for doctors who measure Lp(a), to investigate the use of this value in the management of patients.
Results: A total of 151 centres clinicians filled in the survey, out of 226 invited.
