Background: The CHADS-VAS score is used to predict the risk of thromboembolic complications in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). We hypothesized that the CHADS-VAS score can be used to predict mortality in patients undergoing coronary angiography.

Methods And Results: This was a prospective study of 990 patients undergoing coronary angiography.

Immediate Pneumothorax Diagnosis by Surgical Residents Using Portable Ultrasound.

Objective: Feasibility of diagnosis of pneumothorax using handheld ultrasound by non-radiologists shows inconsistent results. The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of portable ultrasound for immediate diagnosis of pneumothorax by general surgery residents who underwent short training.

Methods: Patients who presented to the emergency department of a university hospital with suspected pneumothorax between 10/2018 and 12/2019 were included in the study.

Interdigitation and Ellipsoid Zones Disruption Correlate with Visual Outcomes among Treatment-Naive Patients with Diabetic Macular Edema.

Introduction: We have recently shown that defects in interdigitation and ellipsoid zones (IZ and EZ) can predict response to anti-VEGF therapy in a small group of treatment-naive diabetic macular edema (DME) patients. The aim of the current study is to further evaluate this association in a larger study group of patients over a longer follow-up time.

Methods: Thirty eyes of 30 treatment-naive DME patients were analyzed in this retrospective study.

The aim is to determine the accuracy of preoperative EGD and UGIS for HH diagnosis among bariatric surgery candidates.

The use of circular stapler for cervical esophagogastric anastomosis after esophagectomy: surgical technique and early postoperative outcome.

Stapled esophagogastric anastomosis after esophagectomy is considered to be superior to traditional handsewn techniques. Linear staplers are usually used. The aim of this study is to evaluate early postoperative results of circular stapler in cervical esophagogastric anastomosis.

High-molecular weight adiponectin is associated with coronary artery angiographic findings in Asian Indians.

Asian Indians (AIs) have a higher prevalence and a more aggressive form of coronary artery disease (CAD), and it has been suggested that hypoadiponectinemia may have a role in this accelerated CAD. The present study was undertaken to determine the extent and severity of angiographic findings in 2 groups of CAD patients matched for age and sex, AIs (n = 29) vs whites (n = 30), and to elucidate the potential relationship between adiponectin (total and high-molecular weight [HMW] form) and the severity and extent of coronary angiographic findings in both groups. Angiographic findings were assessed using the modified Gensini index; and 2 scores, scores 1 and 2, were used to assess the severity and extent.

Primary care physicians' awareness and implementation of screening guidelines for colorectal cancer.

Objective: The objective was to determine primary care physicians' (PCPs) familiarity and implementation of screening guidelines for colorectal cancer (CRC) in central Israel.

Methods: Fifty PCPs were interviewed and 1000 charts of their asymptomatic patients ages 50-70 were examined. All CRC patients treated at the regional Oncology Institute in 1980-1984 and in 1993-1997 were then compared, with emphasis on the event leading to diagnosis and tumor stage.

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss as a first manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus: association with anticardiolipin antibodies.

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss is a rarely reported manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This condition has been most frequently seen in individuals with concomitant anticardiolipin antibody (ACL) syndrome, although a direct causal relationship remains unconfirmed. We report an unusual case of a young male with sudden unilateral hearing loss as the first manifestation of SLE.
