The use of the gastrocnemius muscle flap has become an excellent choice for coverage of Knee Defects. However, the surgical management of gastrocnemius muscle flap in the injuries of the popliteal artery remains a challenging therapeutic problem. The purpose of this manuscript is to present a case of a successful knee gastrocnemius flap in a patient with popliteal artery injuries.

Objective: The purpose of the study was to compare the impact of the mobilization techniques and mobilization with movement techniques on static balance in individuals with acute inversion ankle sprain.
Methods: Volunteers with acute inversion ankle sprain ( = 40) were equally and randomly assigned to 2 groups. Participants in intervention group I received the Mulligan mobilization with movement techniques, whereas participants in intervention group II underwent the Maitland mobilization techniques.

High-intensity training (HIT) has been shown to enhance physical fitness and reduce functional impairments in persons with moderately disabling chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNSLBP). However, sustaining these improvements post-rehabilitation remains a challenge. To address this, a home-based, technology-supported HIT program utilizing telerehabilitation can be implemented at home.

Objectives: This study was designed to characterize the prevalence, pattern of herbal use, and related factors among diabetic patients in Tabriz, Iran.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out on 322 diabetic patients with random cluster sampling of specialized and subspecialized clinics in Tabriz, Iran. Binary logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the association between predictor variables (sociodemographic and disease-related characteristics and patient preference for treatment type) with herb use Interviews were conducted using a structured questionnaire from October 1, 2022, to April 23, 2023.

The incidence of head impacts in rugby has been a growing concern for player safety. While rugby headgear shows potential to mitigate head impact intensity during laboratory simulations, evaluating its on-field effectiveness is challenging. Current rugby-specific laboratory testing methods may not represent on-field conditions.

Background: The goal of this study was to examine autonomic nervous system function by measuring heart rate (HR), heart rate variability (HRV), skin conductance levels (SCL), and peripheral skin temperature (ST) in response to and during recovery from psychosocial stressors in patients with functional somatic syndromes (FSS; fibromyalgia and/or chronic fatigue syndrome), stress-related syndromes (SRS; overstrain or burn-out), and healthy controls (HC).
Methods: Patients with FSS (n = 26), patients with SRS (n = 59), and HC (n = 30) went through a standardized psychosocial stress test consisting of a resting phase (120 s), the STROOP color word task (120 s), a mental arithmetic task (120 s) and a stress talk (120 s), each followed by a 120 s recovery period. HR, HRV, SCL, and ST were monitored continuously.

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) can have more pronounced effects on joint position sense (JPS) accuracy and gait characteristics. The aim of this study is to investigate the association between lower limb JPS and different aspects of gait pattern including gait asymmetry and variability and spatiotemporal coordination in individuals with bilateral KOA. In this cross-sectional study, lower limb JPS of 43 individuals with bilateral KOA (mild and moderate) were measured.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) predominantly affects women of childbearing age, significantly impacting their quality of life (QOL). The diagnosis of MS can influence pregnancy intention, and the level of disability associated with MS may change before and after pregnancy. This study aims to analyze the reproductive characteristics of Iranian female patients with MS (PwMS) and their association with the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) and pregnancy tendency, providing valuable insights into disease progression and the development of tailored treatments.

Postural control is a multisensory adaptive system performing predictive (anticipatory) and/or reactive (compensatory) actions, with varying degrees of accuracy, to maintain balance in a changing environmental context. Common instrumentation to evaluate balance includes static and dynamic force platforms; added sway-referenced perturbations on the dynamic platform constitute its main advantage. Clinical applications notwithstanding, normative data are needed for interpretation in clinical settings.

Voltage-gated sodium channels (VGSCs) are best known for their role in the generation and propagation of action potentials in neurons, muscle cells, and cardiac myocytes, which have traditionally been labeled as 'excitable'. However, emerging evidence challenges this traditional perspective. It is now clear that VGSCs are also expressed in a broad spectrum of cells outside the neuromuscular realm, where they regulate diverse cellular functions.

As PI-LL mismatch is an effective index for spinal surgery and PI-LL less than 10 probably indicates better quality of life, this study aimed to assess spinopelvic parameters, lumbar instability, and lumbar muscle morphology in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP) with different PI-LL mismatches. This cross-sectional study included 158 CLBP patients. The association between lumbar extensor muscle morphology (measured from magnetic resonance imaging) and spinopelvic parameters (measured from standing lateral radiographs) and lumbar instability (measured from lumbar flexion/extension radiographs) was compared between two groups of patients with different PI-LL mismatch.

Background: Pompe disease is a glycogen storage disease primarily affecting striated muscles. Despite its main manifestation in muscles, patients with Pompe disease may exhibit non-muscle symptoms, such as hearing loss, suggesting potential involvement of sensory organs or the nervous system due to glycogen accumulation.
Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the presence of concomitant small and large fiber neuropathy in patients with Pompe disease.

Ionizing radiation-induced injury often occurs in nuclear accidents or large-dose radiotherapy, leading to acute radiation syndromes characterized by hematopoietic and gastrointestinal injuries even to death. However, current radioprotective drugs are only used in hospitals with unavoidable side effects. Here, we heated the aqueous solution of inulin, a polysaccharide dietary fiber, forming colon-retentive gel as a radiation protector in radiotherapy.

Ultra-endurance exercise events result in central fatigue, impacting on mental alertness and decision making. Endocannabinoids are typically elevated during endurance exercise and have been implicated in central processes such as learning and memory, but their role in central fatigue has never been studied. Twenty-four recreational male ultrarunners participated in a 100-km trail run, and 18 of them completed at least 60 km and were included in the analyses.

Chitosan, a commonly used dietary supplement, is believed to have the potential to decrease body weight by binding to dietary fats and decreasing their absorption. However, due to conflicting results from various studies, this review aimed to investigate the effects of chitosan supplementation on obesity indicators in adults. To find appropriate randomized clinical trials (RCTs), a thorough search was conducted across electronic databases like PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and ISI Web of Science.

Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a prevalent musculoskeletal disease affecting joint mechanics. Considering the effect of step-width changes on the biomechanics of gait, especially the alteration of stability dynamics during narrow-base gait, this study investigated the kinematic parameters of the lower extremities during both normal and narrow-base walking in individuals with and without KOA.
Methods: A cross-sectional study with 20 individuals with bilateral KOA and 20 controls was conducted.

Purpose: Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) measured by dynamic renal scintigraphy (Gates method) is used in this study as the standard to investigate the applicability of two creatinine (Cr)-based GFR estimation equations in Chinese patients of different genders, age groups, and GFR stages diagnosed with neurogenic bladder (NB).
Methods: GFR values were measured using Tc-DTPA renal dynamic imaging, the new serum creatinine (Cr)-based chronic kidney disease epidemiology collaborative group (CKD-EPI) equation, and the equation for the estimated GFR of CKD patients in China, which were designated as sGFR, EPI-GFR, and cGFR, respectively. Pearson's correlation and linear regression were used to compare the differences, absolute differences, precision, and accuracies of the results of the two equations with sGFR to determine the formula offering better performance for the assessment of patients with NB.
