Objectives: To evaluate if the tackler correctly adhering, or not, to four different instructions of legal front-on one-on-one torso tackles altered the tackler and/or ball carrier peak inertial head kinematics.

Design: Controlled laboratory study.

Methods: Fifteen rugby-code players measured with three-dimensional optoelectronic motion capture performed two tackle instructions from the Australian National Rugby League coaching manual on under (Dominant National Rugby League) and over (Smother National Rugby League) the ball tackles, and two novel variants of these (under, Dominant, Torso Stick; over, Smother, Pop, Lock).

Department of Anesthesiology, Tongji Hospital, School of Medicine, Tongji University, Shanghai, China.

Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as an essential regulator of the cell fate commitment of neural stem/progenitor cells (NPCs), although the impacts of certain miRNAs on NPCs remain vague. The aim of this study is to investigate the regulatory effects of on the cell fate commitment of NPCs.

Methods: We investigated the impact of on the proliferation and differentiation capacities of primary NPCs by manipulating the expression of using specific mimics and inhibitors.

Introduction: Using the data taken from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database, we explored the relationship between the dietary inflammatory index (DII) and low muscle mass (LMM) in adults.

Methods: We examined 20,424 adults ≥ 20 years old from the 1999-2006 and 2011-2018 NHANES. We hypothesized that the DII is positively associated with the risk of LMM in adults.

Purpose: To explore the negative emotions expressed by parents of children with disabilities when describing their experiences with pediatric health care.

Methods: Quotes mentioning negative emotional experiences and the situations in which these arose were identified in 13 transcribed focus group conversations involving 65 Canadian parents of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. Data were analyzed using content analysis.

Background: Medical image segmentation is crucial for clinical diagnostics and treatment planning. Recently, hybrid models often neglect the local modeling capabilities of Transformers for medical image segmentation, despite the complementary nature of local information from both convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and transformers. This limitation is particularly problematic in multi-organ segmentation, where organs are closely adhered, and accurate delineation is essential.

Brain responses to transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) can be recorded with electroencephalography (EEG) and comprise TMS-evoked potentials and TMS-induced oscillations. Repetitive TMS may entrain endogenous brain oscillations. In turn, ongoing brain oscillations prior to the TMS pulse can influence the effects of the TMS pulse.

Rewiring the disordered connectome with circuit-based paired stimulation after stroke-a randomized, double-blind and controlled Phase II trial.

Brain Commun

December 2024

Engineering Research Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine Intelligent Rehabilitation, Ministry of Education, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai 201203, China.

The cortico-cortical paired associative stimulation, a combined stimulation based on two brain regions, may be an effective strategy for stroke rehabilitation. Our aim was to confirm that the cortico-cortical paired associative stimulation strengthens the connection between brain regions in the motor circuit and promotes improvements in motor function. This was a randomized double-blind, controlled Phase II trial.

Purpose: Children and youth who belong to a racially minoritized group commonly experience multiple and complex forms of discrimination and health disparities. The purpose of this review was to explore racial disparities in health care and health outcomes among children and youth with physical disabilities.

Methods: Six international databases (Ovid Medline, Healthstar, Embase, PsycINFO, Scopus, and Web of Science) were searched and screened for inclusion.

Background: Pain is a complex problem that is triaged, diagnosed, treated, and billed based on which body part is painful, almost without exception. While the "body part framework" guides the organization and treatment of individual patients' pain conditions, it remains unclear how to best conceptualize, study, and treat pain conditions at the population level. Here, we investigate (1) how the body part framework agrees with population-level, biologically derived pain profiles; (2) how do data-derived pain profiles interface with other symptom domains from a whole-body perspective; and (3) whether biologically derived pain profiles capture clinically salient differences in medical history.

Background And Aims: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder, and past research suggests that adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MD) may influence the risk of PD. However, there are varying conclusions among different studies regarding the correlation between long-term adherence to the MD and the occurrence of PD. This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the association between MD adherence and PD incidence.

Effects of ankle dorsiflexion training on anticipatory postural adjustments during gait initiation in patients with Parkinson's disease.

Gait Posture

December 2024

Life and Medical Sciences Area, Health Sciences Discipline, Kobe University, Tomogaoka 7-10-2, Suma-ku, Kobe, Hyogo 654-0142, Japan. Electronic address:

Background: Freezing of gait (FOG) during gait initiation in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) is associated with anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs) with diminishing amplitude, leading to a risk of falls. Assistance with ankle dorsiflexion function by external devices improve APAs during gait initiation, however, the effect of training to improve ankle dorsiflexion function on APAs during gait initiation is unclear.

Research Question: Does ankle dorsiflexion training improve APAs and FOG during gait initiation in patients with PD?

Method: This 4-week prospective controlled trial included 30 patients with PD, who were divided into two groups: the control group, which received only conventional inpatient rehabilitation, and the intervention group, which received ankle dorsiflexion training in addition to inpatient rehabilitation.

Managing supervisory drift in cognitive behavioral therapy: A narrative review with case vignettes.

Neuro Endocrinol Lett

November 2024

Department of Psychological Sciences, Faculty of Social Science and Health Care, Constantine the Philosopher University, Nitra, Slovak Republic.

Drift is a phenomenon that can occur in cognitive-behavioral supervision, where core components of supervision are omitted, avoided, or deprioritized. This narrative review explores the signs, reasons, and impact of supervisory drift at the experiential, cognitive, and emotional levels for both the supervisor and the supervisee. Additionally, the article presents potential solutions for preventing and addressing supervisory drift, such as staying on track, anticipating problems before they arise, adapting supervision to the supervisee's needs, using active supervision methods to understand drift better, engaging in Supervision of Supervision (SoS), and using alliance measures.

This study sought to determine the influence of various demographic variables on pass/failure on a pediatric performance validity test, the Memory Validity Profile (MVP) in a mixed clinical sample ( = 393; 62% male, 62% White, median age 11 years). Children who failed the MVP ( = 72, 18%) according to a uniform cutoff of ≤30/32 correct were younger and were more likely to have a special education history than those who passed it ( = 321, 82%). There were no statistically significant group differences on other variables such as sex, race, parental education, history of treatment for ADHD or other psychiatric disorder.

: Delirium is a common neuropsychiatric syndrome characterized by the acute and fluctuating impairment of cognition, attention, and consciousness, which is prevalent in older adults following surgical procedures. Despite the recognized impact of delirium on recovery, its specific effects on motor rehabilitation outcomes in the geriatric population remain underexplored. This historical cohort study aimed to evaluate the association between the presence of delirium upon admission to a rehabilitation hospital and the motor functional gain at discharge among older patients following hip fracture surgery.
