Parent Perceptions of Behavior Analytic Interventions.

Behav Anal Pract

December 2024

Department of Applied Behavior Analysis, Regis College, 235 Wellesley Street, Weston, MA 02493 USA.

Unlabelled: Current trends in the general American population favor parenting strategies with a relationship-focused approach highlighting secure attachment, respecting children, parenting proactively, showing empathic leadership, and using positive discipline. However, these strategies generally have not been validated by the research literature or may be based on behavior analytic strategies without reference to their origins. Although behavior analytic strategies have been shown to be effective throughout decades of research, these approaches have acquired a negative reputation in many communities with the perception of applied behavior analysis (ABA) being cold, harsh, and robotic.

Injectable Self-Oxygenating Cardio-Protective and Tissue Adhesive Silk-Based Hydrogel for Alleviating Ischemia After Mi Injury.

Small

August 2024

Division of Engineering in Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Department of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, 65 Landsdowne St, Cambridge, 02139, United States.

Myocardial infarction (MI) is a significant cardiovascular disease that restricts blood flow, resulting in massive cell death and leading to stiff and noncontractile fibrotic scar tissue formation. Recently, sustained oxygen release in the MI area has shown regeneration ability; however, improving its therapeutic efficiency for regenerative medicine remains challenging. Here, a combinatorial strategy for cardiac repair by developing cardioprotective and oxygenating hybrid hydrogels that locally sustain the release of stromal cell-derived factor-1 alpha (SDF) and oxygen for simultaneous activation of neovascularization at the infarct area is presented.

Engineering Stem Cell Fate Controlling Biomaterials to Develop Muscle Connective Tissue Layered Myofibers.

Adv Funct Mater

January 2024

Division of Engineering in Medicine, Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Cambridge, MA 02139, USA.

Skeletal muscle connective tissue (MCT) surrounds myofiber bundles to provide structural support, produce force transduction from tendons, and regulate satellite cell differentiation during muscle regeneration. Engineered muscle tissue composed of myofibers layered within MCT has not yet been developed. Herein, a bioengineering strategy to create MCT-layered myofibers through the development of stem cell fate-controlling biomaterials that achieve both myogenesis and fibroblast differentiation in a locally controlled manner at the single construct is introduced.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) continues to be a threat to public health due to the associated morbidity, mortality, and social and economic impacts. AUD accounts for greater than 85,000 deaths annually in the United States and greater than 1500 deaths annually in New Jersey (NJ). Despite these associated burdens, the treatment of AUD remains unequal among the population, and it is important to identify the factors influencing the disparity in defined population groups such as NJ to drive the appropriate intervention.

During orthodontic tooth movement (OTM), osteocytes, the most mechanosensitive cells in alveolar bone, suffer the heavy orthodontic force and initiate alveolar bone resorption on the compression side. However, the inherent mechanisms of compressive force-induced osteocyte death are not fully understood. In this study, we established an OTM model on Sprague-Dawley rats by inserting coil springs to investigate osteocyte damage on the compression side of alveolar bone.
