Limited advancements in managing malignant brain tumors have resulted in poor prognoses for glioblastoma (GBM) patients. Standard treatment involves surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, which lack specificity and damage healthy brain tissue. Boron-containing compounds, such as boric acid (BA), exhibit diverse biological effects, including anticancer properties.

Background: Acute cholecystitis (AC) is increasingly common and imposes a burden on healthcare systems, particularly in the elderly population. While laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is the definitive treatment, percutaneous cholecystostomy (PC) is often preferred based on various factors. The treatment of elderly patients requires a multidisciplinary approach that carefully assesses surgical risks due to age-related changes and comorbidities.

This study was aimed to identify the most frequently observed pathogens in uncomplicated urinary tract infections from outpatient urinary isolates obtained across seven different geographical regions in Türkiye and to determine whether the antibiotic resistance rates of these pathogens differ significantly between these regions. The study included patients aged 18 to 65 years who were diagnosed with uncomplicated urinary tract infections and had positive urine cultures from March 2021 to August 2022, across 37 different centers in Türkiye. The participating centers were selected based on their use of the disk diffusion method, in line with the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) guidelines, to ensure standardization of urine culture data.

Objective: To compare sperm retrieval rates (SRR), postoperative pain, testicular volume, and postoperative testosterone levels between equatorial incisional microdissection testicular sperm extraction (micro-TESE) and longitidunal incisional micro-TESE in nonobstructive azoospermic (NOA) patients.
Methods: Fifty NOA patients undergoing equatorial incisional micro-TESE were retrospectively assigned to group 1, while 50 patients undergoing longitidunal incisional micro-TESE were prospectively assigned to group 2. Demographic data, operative time, postoperative pain assessed via the visual analog scale, complications, SRR, and hormonal evaluations (FSH, LH, total testosterone) were recorded.

Current guidelines recommend adding long-acting muscarinic antagonists (LAMAs) in patients with uncontrolled asthma, despite the use of moderate to high doses of inhaled steroid-long-acting beta agonists (ICS/LABA). This study aims to analyze the factors related to the prescription of add-on LAMA in clinical practice for asthma patients, shedding light on physicians' preferences. This study included adult asthma patients on add-on LAMA and ICS/LABA monitored for at least one year in a national registry comprising 2053 asthmatics.

Ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction, in addition to causing progressive renal function loss, can lead to the formation of retained stones. Management planning for concomitant stones and UPJ obstruction is a topic of debate in the literature. We performed laparoscopic pyeloplasty and extracted all 144 stones from the renal pelvis and calyces of a 37-year-old male with UPJ stricture, using wireless flexible cystoscopic guidance.

Although there are many scoring systems for acute coronary syndromes, there is no suitable score for early risk stratification during initial medical contact with non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) patients. The present study compared the Rapid Emergency Medicine Score (REMS), an easy-to-use scoring system in emergency departments, with the Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (GRACE) score used for in-hospital mortality risk stratification of NSTEMI patients. The results were: (i) the REMS score outperformed the GRACE score in predicting the in-hospital mortality; (ii) in estimating in-hospital mortality, the sensitivity of the GRACE score was 88%, the specificity was 65%, while the sensitivity of the REMS score was 100% and the specificity was 76%; (iii) the AUC (Area Under Curve) value of the REMS score (AUC 0.

Scalding burns are a common form of thermal injury that often leads to systemic complications. Pro-inflammatory cytokines like interleukin-6 (IL-6) and the activation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) pathways have been linked to the pathophysiology of organ damage caused by burns. This study aimed to investigate the potential therapeutic effects of dexmedetomidine, an α2-adrenergic receptor agonist with anti-inflammatory properties, on the interplay of IL-6 and STAT3 pathways in adrenal gland damage following scalding burns in rats.
