Background: The recent Intergenerational Report (2023) highlighted that the Australian healthcare system will face increasing economic and logistical challenges, with projected growth in health spending due to an ageing population and an increasing number of chronic diseases. Shared care, a model emphasising collaboration between nursing and allied health, general practice and specialist care providers, has emerged as one solution.

Objective: This paper explores the contemporary shared care landscape in Australia, highlighting the digital transformation of healthcare, the adoption of eHealth technologies, and their impact on improving patient care coordination.

Shifting care from the resource-intensive inpatient setting to the more economically efficient outpatient sector is being promoted internationally by policymakers. Financial incentives are a major focus of such efforts because low levels of hospital outpatient care are attributed to differences in payment for inpatient and outpatient services. In Germany, however, there is significant variation in the extent to which hospitals provide outpatient care despite a uniform payment system.

Exploring the molecular landscape of cutaneous mixed tumors characterized by TRPS1::PLAG1 gene fusion.

J Pathol

December 2024

Department of Pathology, Institute de Pathologie Multisite, Groupement Hospitalier Sud, Lyon University Hospital, Pierre-Bénite, France.

The histological similarities between pleomorphic adenomas (PAs) and cutaneous mixed tumors (CMTs) found in certain facial regions can create a diagnostic challenge. Molecular findings reveal common genetic profiles, particularly PLAG1 rearrangements in both PA and CMT. Although molecular distinctions have received limited attention, our observations indicate multiple cases of CMTs carrying the TRPS1::PLAG1 fusion.
