Background: Among the alleles of the ABO system, cisAB and B(A) are the most intriguing due to their ability to encode a glycosyltransferase that can synthesize both A and B antigens. This dual activity leads to the formation of the AB phenotype, even in the presence of the O allele; resolution is achieved by molecular analyses.
Case Presentation And Methods: We describe herein a Brazilian family in which the mother (M42.

Objective: In the hepatitis C virus (HCV) diagnostic algorithm, an anti-HCV screening test is recommended first. In countries with low HCV prevalence, anti-HCV testing can often give false-positive results. This may lead to unnecessary retesting, increased costs, and psychological stress for patients.

Kidney transplantation is followed by immunosuppressive therapy involving calcineurin inhibitors (CNIs) such as cyclosporin A. However, long-term high CNIs doses can lead to vitamin D deficiency, and genetic variations influencing vitamin D levels can indirectly impact the necessary CNIs dosage. This study investigates the impact of genetic variations of vitamin D binding protein () rs2282679 and hydroxylase rs10741657 polymorphisms on the cyclosporin A dosage in kidney transplant recipients.

Mesenchymal stem cells can differentiate into specific cell lineages in the tissue repair process. Photobiomodulation with laser and LED is used to treat several comorbidities, can interfere in cell proliferation and viability, in addition to promoting responses related to the physical parameters adopted. Evaluate and compare the effects of laser and LED on mesenchymal cells, with different energy doses and different wavelengths, in addition to viability and wound closure.

Osteoporosis is a multifactorial systemic skeletal disease that is characterized by a low bone mineral density (BMD) and the microarchitectural deterioration of bone tissue, leading to bone fragility. The search for new genes that may play an important role in the regulation of bone mass and the development of osteoporosis is ongoing. Recently, it was found that altering the activity of the endothelin-1-converting enzyme encoded by the gene may affect bone mineral density (BMD).

The FUT2 gene encodes an enzyme called α-1,2-fucosyltransferase, which is involved in the formation of blood group antigens AB0(H) and is also involved in the processes of vitamin B12 absorption and its transport between cells. FUT2 gene polymorphisms are associated with vitamin B12 levels in the body. Vitamin B12 deficiency associated with hyperhomocysteinemia is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), which are one of the main causes of death in patients after kidney transplantation.

Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is characterized by immune system activation and heightened susceptibility to infections. We hypothesized that SCA patients exhibit transcriptional alterations in B-cell-related genes, impacting their peripheral B-cell compartment and leading to dysregulated humoral immunity and increased infection susceptibility. Our objective was to conduct an in silico analysis of whole blood transcriptomes from SCA patients and healthy controls obtained from public repositories.

Objectives: To isolate cancer stem cells (CSC) from a metastatic oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cell line and investigate their in vitro and in vivo phenotypic characteristics.
Materials And Methods: Subpopulations with individual staining intensities for CD44 and CD326 were isolated from the OSCC cell line LN-1A by FACS: CD44/CD326 (CSC-M), CD44/CD326 (CSC-E), and CD44/CD326 (CSC-M). Proliferation, clonogenic potential, adhesion, migration, epithelial-mesenchymal transition markers, and sensitivity to cisplatin and TVB-3166 were analyzed in vitro.

Introduction: Immune thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (iTTP) is characterized by acute systemic microvascular thrombosis and is associated with a high morbidity and mortality, especially in delayed diagnosis (later than 6-7 days from symptoms). iTTP data in Brazil is scarce, so we aimed to characterize the clinical presentation and identify predictors of death risk in patients with this disease in Brazil.
Methods: In this single-center retrospective study the patients who underwent therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) for presumptive or confirmed iTTP were evaluated regarding the epidemiological, clinical, laboratorial characteristics and management.

Investigating the effect of different parameters of photobiomodulation (PBM) with low-power laser on multi-potent mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from adipose tissue in terms of proliferation and cell death. MSCs were submitted to PBM applications with combinations of the following physical parameters: control group (no intervention), wavelengths of 660 and 830 nm; energy of 0.5, 2, and 4 J; and power of 40 and 100 mW.

Background: The incidence of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) is on the rise. Since there is no curative treatment, it is urgent to look for therapies that can delay disease progression and protect pancreatic β-cells. Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4i) have shown potential in modulating inflammation and preventing β-cell destruction.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) have shown increasing therapeutic potential in the last years. However, large production of EV is required for therapeutic purposes. Thereby, scaling up MSC cultivation in bioreactors is essential to allow culture parameters monitoring.

Osteoporosis is a multifactorial and polygenic disease caused by an imbalance between osteoclastogenesis and osteoblastogenesis, leading to a decrease in bone mineral density and the occurrence of disorders in the microarchitecture and metabolism of bone tissue. In postmenopausal women, there is a significant decrease in the production of estrogens, which play a key role in maintaining proper bone mineral density. Estrogens have an inhibitory effect on the development and activity of osteoclasts by reducing the synthesis of pro-resorption cytokines and stimulating the expression of osteoprotegerin (OPG).

Detection of t(9;22), and consequent fusion, is still a marker of worse prognosis for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), with resistance to tyrosine-kinase inhibitor therapy being a major obstacle in the clinical practice for this subset of patients. In this study, we investigated the effectiveness of targeting poly-ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP) in a model of p190+ ALL, the most common isoform to afflict ALL patients, and demonstrated the use of experimental PARP inhibitor (PARPi), AZD2461, as a therapeutic option with cytotoxic capabilities similar to that of imatinib, the current gold standard in medical care. We characterized cytostatic profiles, induced cell death, and biomarker expression modulation utilizing cell models, also providing a comprehensive genome-wide analysis through an aCGH of the model used, and further validated PARP1 differential expression in samples of ALL p190+ patients from local healthcare institutions, as well as in larger cohorts of online and readily available datasets.
