Introduction: Side-effects are frequently encountered in classic chemotherapy. However, the recent development of targeted treatments has resulted in a diminution of these. The most common side-effects are dermatological.

Surgical treatment of gastrointestinal tumors in a COVID-19 pandemic hospital: Can open versus minimally invasive surgery be safely performed?

Purpose: In order for patients with gastrointestinal cancer not to suffer the consequences of delayed treatment, they should be operated on in pandemic hospitals under adequate conditions. We aimed to discuss the outcomes of our gastrointestinal cancer surgery patients and to present our patient management recommendations to resume operative treatment during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic while taking into account hospital facilities.

Materials And Methods: This study included 129 gastrointestinal cancer patients who underwent surgery between March 2020 and May 2021 in the gastrointestinal surgery clinic of our hospital, which was assigned as a pandemic hospital in March 2020.

The effect of meteorological variables on spontaneous pneumothorax in two regions with different altitudes.

Spontaneous pneumothorax (SP) is defined as the presence of free air inside the pleural space. Many studies have reported that meteorological variables may trigger SP, but the mechanism is unknown. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of meteorological variables on the development of SP in two regions with different altitudes.

Modified Closed Coronary Transfer is a Good Alternative to the Trap-Door Method During Arterial Switch Operation: a Retrospective Propensity-Matched Comparison.

Objective: To compare the early and long-term results of patients in whom was performed modified closed coronary transfer with the results of patients in whom was performed trap-door transfer techniques by utilizing propensity-matching analysis to provide optimal identical patient matching for the groups.

Methods: From August 2015 to December 2017, 127 consecutive patients underwent arterial switch operation due to simple and complex transposition of the great arteries, with or without additional arch and complex coronary pattern, by a single surgical team included into the study. Of these, in 70 patients it was performed modified closed coronary transfer technique and in 57 patients it was performed trap-door style coronary transfer technique.

The poor long-term outcomes of owl's eye pulmonary reconstruction technique after arterial switch operation.

Objectives: This study aims to compare the early- and long-term outcomes of patients who undergo owl's eye pulmonary artery (PA) reconstruction to those of patients who undergo conventional PA reconstruction.

Methods: From January 2016 to January 2017, 64 consecutive patients underwent an arterial switch operation. The patients were divided into 2 groups in terms of neo-PA reconstruction method: 30 patients who underwent neo-PA reconstruction by owl's eye technique were defined as group 1 and 34 patients who underwent neo-PA reconstruction by the conventional approach were defined as group 2.

The Protective Effect of Thiamine Pryophosphate Against Sugar-Induced Retinal Neovascularisation in Rats.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP), administered via sugar water, on retinal neovascularisation in rats. Animals were assigned to three groups, namely the TPP sugar-water group (TPSWG, = 12), the control group (CG, = 12) and the healthy group (HG, n = 12). The TPSWG was injected intraperitoneally with TPP once a day for 6 months.

Surgical treatment of pediatric forearm fractures with intramedullary nails: is it a disadvantage to leave the tip exposed?

Elastic intramedullary nailing is the main treatment method in the surgical treatment of pediatric forearm fractures. In this study, we compared the clinical outcomes of intramedullary nailing of forearm fractures with leaving the tips exposed and with placing the tip of the nails under the skin. We aimed to present the clinical outcomes of intramedullary nailing and determine the advantages and disadvantages of leaving the tips of the nails exposed.

Effects of Aliskiren, an RAAS inhibitor, on a carrageenan-induced pleurisy model of rats.

Our aim is to investigate the potentially preventive effects of Aliskiren in a carrageenan-induced lung pleurisy model and to compare the standard anti-inflammatory agents, indomethacin and dexamethasone. The pleurisy model was induced through the injection of carrageenan (0.2 ml-%2) into the pleural cavity.

Methods: Patients who were operated for unilateral chronic subdural hematoma and underwent basal membranotomy in addition to hematoma drainage were included in the first phase of the study. After the superficial membranous structures were excised, the maximum perpendicular distance between the internal tabula and the cerebral surface was measured after subdural hematoma evacuation.

The role of upper airway obstruction and snoring in the etiology of monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis in children.

This study evaluated the necessity of examining the upper airway in children with nocturnal enuresis. 225 children (aged 5-16 years), who were referred from the urology outpatient clinic between May 2015 and May 2016 and who had completed toilet training, were included in this study. Participants were separated into monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (MNE) (group 1) and without MNE (group 2) groups.

Gene expression and histopathological evaluation of thiamine pyrophosphate on optic neuropathy induced with ethambutol in rats.

Aim: To compare the effects of thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) and thiamine (TM) in oxidative optic neuropathy in rats induced by ethambutol.

Methods: The animals were divided into four groups: a control group (CG), an ethambutol control (ETC) group, TM plus ethambutol group (TMG), and TPP plus ethambutol group (TPPG). One hour after intraperitoneal administration of TM 20 mg/kg to the TMG group and TPP 20 mg/kg to TPPG group, 30 mg/kg ethambutol was given gavage to all the groups but the CG.
