Adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) is a rare tumor whose clinical course is burdened by local recurrence and distant dissemination. Lymph node metastasis is not believed to be common and its clinical impact is controversial. The aim of this study was to determine: (1) the prevalence of occult metastasis at diagnosis in cN0 head and neck AdCC, (2) its prognostic role, and (3) the consequent need to perform elective neck dissection (END).

Purpose: Tumor-microenvironment interactions are important determinants of drug resistance in colorectal cancer (CRC). We, therefore, set out to understand how interactions between genetically characterized CRC cells and stromal fibroblasts might influence response to molecularly targeted inhibitors.
Techniques: Sensitivity to PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway inhibitors of CRC cell lines, with known genetic background, was investigated under different culture conditions [serum-free medium, fibroblasts' conditioned medium (CM), direct co-culture].

Purpose: To correlate somatostatin receptor (SSTR) and proliferative activity profile (SSTR2, SSTR5, Ki-67) at immunohistochemistry (IHC) with SSTR-PET/CT imaging features in a retrospective series of lung neuroendocrine tumors (NET). Proliferative activity by Ki-67 and F-FDG-PET/CT parameters (when available) were also correlated.
Methods: Among 551 patients who underwent SSTR-PET/CT with Ga-DOTA-somatostatin analogs (SSA) between July 2011 and March 2020 for lung neuroendocrine neoplasms, 32 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of NET were included.

Background: Osimertinib became the standard treatment for patients with untreated EGFR-mutant advanced non-small cell lung cancer (aNSCLC) following results reported in the phase III randomized FLAURA trial. Because of strict exclusion criteria, patient populations included in pivotal trials are only partially representative of real-world patients.
Methods: We designed an observational, prospective, multicenter study enrolling patients with EGFR-mutant aNSCLC receiving first-line osimertinib to evaluate effectiveness, safety, and progression patterns in the real-world.

STAT6 is usually considered to be a very sensitive and specific immunomarker for diagnosis of solitary fibrous tumor (SFT), being a surrogate of the NAB2-STAT6 fusion gene identified in most cases of this tumor. STAT6 expression has also been reported in rare cases of other soft tissue tumors, such as low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma, myxoid/round cell liposarcoma, dedifferentiated liposarcoma and deep fibrous histiocytoma. The aim of this study was to report, for the first time, a case of mesenchymal chondrosarcoma showing diffuse aberrant immunohistochemical expression of STAT6.

HIV-infected men who have sex with men (MSM) display the highest prevalence of anal infection by high-risk Human Papillomaviruses (hrHPVs) and incidence of anal carcinoma. Anal specimens were genotyped by the Linear Array. Incidence and clearance of anal infection by hrHPVs, hrHPVs other than HPV16, low-risk HPVs, and four individual types (6,11,16,18) were estimated using a two-state Markov model.

Oral infection by Human Papillomavirus (HPV) has recently gained great attention because of its involvement in the development of a subset of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. The role of specific Alpha-HPVs in this regard has been well established, whereas the contribution of other genera is under investigation. Despite their traditional classification as "cutaneous" types, Beta and Gamma HPVs are frequently detected in oral samples.

Objective: Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided FNB was not demonstrated to be better than EUS fine-needle aspiration (FNA) to obtain adequate samples for diagnosis of pancreatic tumors. We report our experience using a 22-gauge needle aspiration to obtain both cytologic and histologic samples.
Patients And Methods: In a total of 232 patients (51% men), 22-gauge needles (Cook Medical) were used to obtain a cytological sample (between 2008 and 2016, Cohort A) and a cytologic and a histologic sample (between 2016 and 2019, Cohort B) to evaluate the usability of this needle to collect material for cytologic and histologic examination.

Men who have sex with men (MSM) harbor the highest prevalence of anal and oral Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection, particularly if HIV-infected. We investigated anal and oral HPV infections in HIV-infected and HIV-uninfected MSM, to assess concurrent (HPV detected at both sites, irrespective of the genotypes), and concordant infections (same genotype[s] detected at both sites). Matched anal and oral samples from 161 MSM (85 HIV-infected, and 76 HIV-uninfected) were tested with the Linear Array.

Background: Deep angiomyxoma (DAM) is currently included in the category of "specific stromal tumors of the lower female genital tract", along with angiomyofibroblastoma, cellular angiofibroma and myofibroblastoma. Given the high rate of local recurrences, it is crucial to recognize DAM from other tumors that possess indolent behaviour. In the present paper, we analyzed the morphological and immunohistochemical features of 42 surgically-resected vulvo-vaginal DAMs (36 primary and 6 recurrent lesions) in order to widen the morphological spectrum of this uncommon tumor.

Objectives: An adequate bowel preparation is essential for a quality colonoscopy. Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) show low compliance with bowel preparation due to the large volume of lavage solution to be ingested, especially if active symptoms are present, and the frequency of having a colonoscopy. We evaluated the efficacy and tolerability of a very low-volume (VLV) polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based solution in patients with IBD.
