Objective: The aim of this study was to propose a unified continuum-of-care (CoC) analysis combining cross-sectional and longitudinal elements, incorporating time spent between stages.
Design: The established 90-90-90 target follows a cross-sectional four-stage CoC analysis, lacking information on timing of diagnosis, antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation, and viral suppression durability.
Methods: Data were derived from the Athens Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (AMACS).

Pineal region tumors (PRTs) affect all ages, with a remarkable proportion of cases occurring in children. They are mainly classified into three categories, namely germ cell tumors (GCTs), pineal parenchymal tumors (PPTs), and other tumors such as gliomas and tumors of the surrounding structures. The purpose of this article is to review the current literature regarding pathophysiological mechanisms of the presenting clinical features of patients with PRT.

BACKGROUND A cardioprotective effect of salvianolic acid A (SalA) has been described, but it is unknown whether SalA can protect cardiomyocytes against doxorubicin (Dox)-induced cardiotoxicity. This study aimed to investigate whether SalA could inhibit Dox-induced apoptosis in H9C2 cells and to uncover the potential mechanism. MATERIAL AND METHODS H9C2 cardiomyocytes exposed to Dox were treated with SalA or not, and then cell viability, apoptosis, and the expression of nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-kappaB) signaling were detected by Cell Counting Kit-8, TUNEL staining, and western blot assays, respectively.

Distal transradial access, through puncture of the radial artery at its course in the anatomical snuffbox, has emerged recently as an alternative approach for coronary catheterization. Several advantages of this approach seem promising and several studies are trying to elucidate its features. This review provides an overview of the snuffbox approach for coronary catheterization and summarizes the key results of the research conducted so far.

Background: Improving HIV diagnosis, access to care and effective antiretroviral treatment provides our global strategy to reduce HIV incidence. To reach this goal we need to increase our knowledge about local epidemics. HIV infection dates would be an important information towards this goal, but they are largely unknown.

Introduction and objectives Bacterial translocation (BT) is the passage of viable bacteria or endotoxins from the gastrointestinal lumen to extra-luminal tissues and is usually observed after intestinal ischaemia-reperfusion injury. The aim of this study was to investigate post-resuscitation BT after cardiac arrest and resuscitation in a swine anaesthetized with propofol-based total intravenous anaesthesia. Materials and methods Eighteen female Landrace/Large White piglets were randomly divided into control (CON), cardiac arrest (CA) and cardiac arrest-cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CA-CPR) groups.

Objectives: To assess the feasibility and safety of same day discharge (SDD) after chronic total occlusion (CTO) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Background: CTO PCI has been associated with higher complication rates and procedural and hospitalization costs. Shortening post-PCI hospitalization length not only increases the patients' comfort but at the same time it consists an important part of cost reduction policies.

Purpose: Patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) are a high-risk subset of patients, whose optimal antithrombotic treatment strategy, involving a combination of anticoagulant and antiplatelet agents, has not been well defined. Our study aims to investigate contemporary "real-world" trends of antithrombotic treatment strategies in AF patients undergoing PCI, as well as identify factors affecting decision-making at hospital discharge.
Methods: "Real-world" data were retrieved from the GReek-AntiPlatElet Atrial Fibrillation (GRAPE-AF) registry, a contemporary, nationwide, multicenter, observational study of AF patients undergoing PCI.

Background: Nibrin, as part of the NBN/MRE11/RAD50 complex, is mutated in Nijmegen breakage syndrome (NBS), which leads to impaired DNA damage response and lymphoid malignancy.
Results: Telomere length (TL) was markedly reduced in homozygous patients (and comparably so in all chromosomes) by ~40% (qPCR) and was slightly reduced in NBS heterozygotes older than 30 years (~25% in qPCR), in accordance with the respective cancer rates. Humanized cancer-free NBS mice had normal TL.

Objectives: Subtypes A1 and B are the most prevalent HIV-1 clades in Greece. Subtype A1 epidemic is highly monophyletic and corresponds to transmissions that occurred locally. Our aim in this molecular epidemiology analysis was to investigate the role of early treatment in preventing new HIV-1 transmissions.

Background: Management of coronary artery graft failure, especially at the site of a recent distal anastomosis, is a challenging clinical situation, and literature data are scarce.
Case Series: We present a case series of patients with coronary artery bypass graft failure up to six months after surgical revascularization, who were treated with percutaneous coronary intervention at the site of distal graft anastomosis through the graft or the native vessel.
Conclusions: Percutaneous coronary intervention at distal graft anastomotic lesions is challenging, it can be performed from either the graft or the native vessel, and the angiographic result may not always be optimal.

Background: Although combined antiretroviral therapy has substantially improved the prognosis of people living with HIV (PLHIV), mortality remains higher compared to the general population, mainly due to higher prevalence of non-HIV-related comorbidities, including cardiovascular diseases (CVD). We assessed the prevalence of CVD risk and its contributing factors in adult PLHIV versus general population controls in Greece.
Settings: Cross-sectional comparison of PLHIV (Athens-Multicenter-AIDS-Cohort-Study; AMACS) versus general population controls (National health examination survey; EMENO).

Background: The present survey aims to describe the intensive cardiac care unit organization and admission policies in Europe.
Methods: A total of 228 hospitals (61% academic) from 27 countries participated in this survey. In addition to the organizational aspects of the intensive cardiac care units, including classification of the intensive cardiac care unit levels, data on the admission diagnoses were gathered from consecutive patients who were admitted during a two-day period.

Although the superiority of manual compression of the radial, mainly due to its selectivity and progressive grading, had been hypothesized from the early days of the transradial use, data on efficacy and safety of this method are only scarce. This review tries to delineate the aspects of manual hemostasis in transradial catheterization. Current data demonstrate that manual compression of the radial artery is a possible (second line) hemostatic option in transradial catheterization with main advantage the shorter hemostasis duration, and major disadvantage the need for larger involvement of post-procedural care team in hemostasis.

Percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) for chronic total occlusions (CTO) are the most challenging type of procedure in interventional cardiology and are traditionally associated with increased complexity and reduced procedural success rates. New techniques, such as retrograde approach and dissection reentry technique, offer alternatives in case of traditional antegrade wiring failure. In this paper, we present a successful implantation of a stent parallel to other existing stent in an in-stent CTO (IS-CTO) using dissection reentry technique.

Objective: Combined antiretroviral treatment (cART) results in profound immunologic improvement, but it is unclear whether CD4 cell counts return to levels similar to those of HIV-negative individuals. We explore long-term CD4 cell count evolution post-cART and its association with baseline levels, virologic suppression, pre-cART cumulative viremia and other factors.
Design: Data were derived from the AMACS.
