Further research is required to encourage the field to consider "Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS) Anti-addiction Modeling" which involves early risk identification by means of genetic assessment similar to GARS, followed by induction of dopamine homeostasis by means of genetically guided pro-dopamine regulation similar to KB220. These results suggest that genetically based treatments may be a missing piece in the treatment of substance use disorder (SUD).

The American Society of Addiction Medicine Clinical Practice Guideline Development Methodology.

The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) has published clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) since 2015. As ASAM's CPG work continues to develop, it maintains an organizational priority to establish rigorous standards for the trustworthy production of these important documents. In keeping with ASAM's mission to define and promote evidence-based best practices in addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery, ASAM has rigorously updated its CPG methodology to be in line with evolving international standards.

Measuring access to food banks and food pantries: A scoping review of spatial analysis approaches.

Food banks and food pantries are crucial in supporting access to food and addressing food insecurity for millions of people. This scoping review identified eighteen articles that applied spatial analysis approaches to measure access to food banks and food pantries. The review summarizes the methods and primary findings of these studies, and examines how these address different dimensions of food access.

New strategy for intraoperative phonosurgical management of recurrent laryngeal nerve infiltrated by thyroid carcinoma.

Purpose: Treating an infiltration of the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) by thyroid carcinoma remains a subject of ongoing debate. Therefore, this study aims to provide a novel strategy for intraoperative phenosurgical management of RLN infiltrated by thyroid carcinoma.

Methods: Forty-two patients with thyroid carcinoma infiltrating the RLN were recruited for this study and divided into three groups.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the association between weight gain and eating disorder (ED) symptoms among adults receiving treatment for atypical anorexia nervosa (AAN), to determine whether those who had a higher percent of expected body weight (%EBW) at discharge exhibited lower ED symptoms than those who gained less weight, and to compare this group to a matched sample of patients with anorexia nervosa (AN).

Method: Participants were 96 adults receiving treatment at an ED treatment facility between December 2020 and May 2023. The Eating Disorder Examination-Questionnaire (EDE-Q) was completed at admission and discharge, and %EBW was obtained at admission and discharge.

Training strategies of 10,074 athletes from 121 countries based on human development index in early COVID-19 lockdown.

The aim of this study was to investigate relationships between changes in training practices and human development index (HDI) levels, and identify strategies employed by athletes who consistently maintained their training quantity during the first 100 days of the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 10,074 athletes (5290 amateur and 4787 professional athletes from 121 countries) completed an online survey between 17 May to 5 July 2020. We explored their training practices, including specific questions on training frequency, duration and quantity before and during lockdown (March-June 2020), stratified according to the human development index (HDI): low-medium, high, or very high HDI.

Disorganized speech is a critical barrier to recovery in schizophrenia, with profound negative impacts on one's ability to engage with the world. Despite the limited efficacy of existing treatments in addressing disorganization, a qualitative analysis of what leads to disorganization in patient narratives has been lacking. This study addresses this gap through inductive thematic analysis of 30 narrative interviews with individuals with schizophrenia, matched based on whether Formal Thought Disorder (FTD) is present.

Comparing eating disorder treatment outcomes of transgender and gender diverse adolescents with those of cisgender adolescents.

Objective: Eating disorder (ED), depression, and anxiety symptoms at admission and discharge were compared, as were admission-to-discharge changes, for transgender and gender diverse (TGD), and cisgender adolescents receiving intensive treatment for EDs.

Method: Participants were 44 TGD and 573 cisgender adolescents admitted to a treatment facility. Participants completed the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) at admission and discharge.

Youth experiencing homelessness (YEH) are infrequently included in the development, organization, and provision of homelessness-related services. This lack of youth voice and services tailored for their expressed needs can lead to underutilization of services, dissatisfaction, and poor outcomes. Photovoice, a participatory research method, has been used to empower persons from marginalized populations and to provide a platform for them to share their voices.

Eating disorder virtual intensive outpatient program: patient satisfaction according to age group.

The COVID-19 pandemic has required a shift to telehealth services. However, not all patients are similarly satisfied with this shift, with some studies finding that midlife and older adults are less comfortable with telehealth. The current study examined patient satisfaction with a virtual intensive outpatient program (VIOP) for eating disorders (EDs) among 305 adults (ages 18-25, ages 26-39, and ages 40+), and compared adult satisfaction to satisfaction among children/adolescents ( = 33) receiving VIOP treatment between August 2020 and March 2022 from a large ED treatment facility.

A new conceptual model for anorexia nervosa: A role for connective tissue?

The etiology of anorexia nervosa (AN) remains to be fully elucidated, and current theories also fail to account for the direct effect of starvation on the health of the organs and tissues, specifically the connective tissue present in most organs of the body. Individuals with hereditary disorders of connective tissue manifest with clinical symptoms that overlap with AN, as the abnormal connective tissue also contributes to many of the other extra-articular manifestations of these hereditary disorders. This article hypothesizes that a similar pathophysiology may also contribute to the clinical presentation of AN.
