Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a severe medical condition that can lead to illness and death. A disintegrin and metalloprotease (ADAM) protein family is a potential treatment target for AKI due to its involvement in inflammation, growth, and differentiation. While ADAM10 and ADAM17 have been identified as significant contributors to inflammation, it is unclear whether they play a critical role in AKI.

This study investigates sex-specific associations between thyroid status, inflammation and hemostasis biomarkers in SAT. : We included 52 patients (40 women and 12 men) treated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) or methylprednisolone (MPS).

Effectiveness of immediate appointment scheduling in smoking cessation clinics for patients with chronic airway diseases: Preliminary results from a randomized trial.

Introduction: Patients with airway diseases who bear the burden of smoking need access to smoking cessation support. We aimed to investigate the impact of immediately scheduled appointments on access to smoking cessation clinics compared with usual care in this patient group.

Methods: This multicenter, prospective, randomized, open-label study was conducted between November 2022 and June 2023 at pulmonary outpatient clinics.

MoTe growth often exhibits intrinsic defects, which significantly influence the material's characteristics. In this work, we conducted a thorough investigation of the electronic characteristics of intrinsic defects, including point defects, in monolayer MoTe using first-principles calculations based on density functional theory (DFT).

The effects of chlorhexidine gel and tranexamic acid application after tooth extraction on the risk of alveolar osteitis formation: a double blind clinical study.

Background: Alveolar osteitis(AO), one of the most common complications occurring in 1-10% of cases following tooth extraction, occurs due to the disruption of clot formation in the extraction socket. This study aims to evaluate the effect of using absorbable gelatin sponge, chlorhexidine gel, and tranexamic acid agents on the development of AO following extraction.

Methods: Between March and October 2023, the teeth of 98 healthy patients (average age: 38, range: 19-62) with extraction indications were extracted at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), characterized by the excessive accumulation of fat within the cytoplasm of hepatocytes (exceeding 5% of liver weight) in individuals without significant alcohol consumption, has rapidly evolved into a pressing global health issue, affecting approximately 25% of the world population. This condition, closely associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and the metabolic syndrome, encompasses a spectrum of liver disorders ranging from simple steatosis without inflammation to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and cirrhotic liver disease. Recent research has illuminated the complex interplay between metabolic and immune responses in the pathogenesis of NASH, underscoring the critical role played by T and B lymphocytes.

Employing tailings makes mine fill production economical and assists resolve disposal problems. Foamed cement-based tailings backfill (FCTB) is a mine fill consisting of tailing, cement, water, and foaming agents.

The effect of pomegranate peel extract added as a natural preservative on the quality parameters of thornback ray () sausages stored at +4°C.

In this study, three different groups of sausages were produced from thornback ray () without additives (control group), waste pomegranate peel extract (natural group), and ascorbic acid (synthetic group). Biochemical, physicochemical, and microbiological changes of sausages were examined under refrigerator conditions (+4°C), and the shelf life was determined. The best results in terms of nutritional and physicochemical values were obtained in sausages treated with pomegranate peel extract.

The levels, single and multiple health risk assessment of 23 metals in enteral nutrition formulas.

Enteral nutrition formulas are products that provide macro and micronutrients to patients who cannot receive their nutrition orally. In this study, the levels of 23 metals known to have potential health risks were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry in a total of 28 enteral nutrition formula. Metal exposure was calculated according to three different daily energy intake scenarios (Scenario 1 = 50% oral nutrition + 50% enteral nutrition formula, Scenario 2 = 25% oral nutrition + 75% enteral nutrition formula and Scenario 3 = 100% enteral nutrition formula) and evaluated in terms of non-carcinogenic health risks.

Evaluation of Choroidal Thickness and Retinal Vessel Density with Serum HIF-1α and TNF-α Level in Patients with OSAS.

Purpose: To reveal changes in choroidal thickness, retinal vessel density, and serum HIF-1α and TNF-α levels in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and their correlation.

Methods: This prospective case-control study included 118 patients divided into mild-to-moderate OSAS ( = 40), severe OSAS ( = 39), and a control group ( = 39). Choroidal thickness was evaluated with OCT, vessel density with OCTA, AHI index with polysomnography, and serum HIF-1α and TNF-α levels were analyzed using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

Prevalence of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma is Significantly Higher in Graves Disease with Synchronous Thyroid Nodules.

Objective: The association between autoimmunity-related tissue injury and thyroid cancer development remains an area of interest. Evidence suggests that patients with Graves disease (GD) may have an elevated risk for differentiated thyroid cancer. Multicenter studies are needed to gain insight into the correlates of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) identified in this particular group of patients.

Computed tomography attenuation in differential diagnosis of transudative and exudative pleural effusions.

Objective: Pleural effusion is a common medical problem. It is important to decide whether the pleural fluid is a transudate or an exudate. This study aims to measure the attenuation values of pleural effusions on thorax computed tomography and to investigate the efficacy of this measurement in the diagnostic separation of transudates and exudates.
