Current guidelines recommend adding long-acting muscarinic antagonists (LAMAs) in patients with uncontrolled asthma, despite the use of moderate to high doses of inhaled steroid-long-acting beta agonists (ICS/LABA). This study aims to analyze the factors related to the prescription of add-on LAMA in clinical practice for asthma patients, shedding light on physicians' preferences. This study included adult asthma patients on add-on LAMA and ICS/LABA monitored for at least one year in a national registry comprising 2053 asthmatics.

Preventive effects of melatonin and amifostine on irradiated rats with experimental periodontitis.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the preventive effects of amifostine and melatonin oxidatively, biochemically and histomorphometrically in rats with radiotherapy-induced experimental periodontitis.

Methods: 40 female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 5 groups: Control, experimental periodontitis (Ep), Ep + radiotherapy (Ep + Rt), Ep + Rt + amifostine (Ep + Rt + Ami), Ep + Rt + melatonin (Ep + Rt + Mel). The day after induction of periodontitis by ligature, a single dose of 5 Gy radiotherapy was administered.

Background: In patients with right-sided breast cancer the liver can be partially irradiated during adjuvant radiotherapy (RT). We aimed to determine breast cancer RT effects on liver using with magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) and biological results.

Patients And Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 34 patients diagnosed with right-sided breast cancer who underwent adjuvant RT.

Background: This cross-sectional study aims to investigate the retino-choroidal degenerative effects of periodontitis, metabolic syndrome (Mets), and the combination of these diseases using optical coherence tomography (OCT) measurements.

Methods: Ninety-two patients selected according to inclusion criteria were divided into four groups: systemically and periodontally healthy (control), systemically healthy periodontitis (PD), periodontally healthy metabolic syndrome (MetS), and periodontitis and metabolic syndrome combined (PD-MetS). The systemic inflammatory-oxidative effects of periodontitis and MetS were biochemically evaluated using the serum TNF-α level, IL-1β/IL-10 ratio, and oxidative stress index (OSI: TOS/TAS).

This narrative review aims to synthesize the current knowledge on microbiota alterations in aerospace medicine, assess the potential of probiotics as a countermeasure, and identify key gaps that warrant further research. The references were identified through searching PubMed for English articles published between 2010 and 2024, using keywords related to microbiota, probiotics, aviation, spaceflight, pilots, and astronauts.

Prolactinomas account for more than half of pituitary adenomas, and besides their clinical impact on fertility and gonadal function, they lead to detrimental effects on bone. Patients with prolactinoma are prone to deterioration of bone structure caused not only by prolactin (PRL) induced hypogonadism but also by its direct actions on bone cells and calcium metabolism. However, clinical studies have shown inconsistent evidence regarding whether PRL could have a deleterious effect independently from gonadal insufficiency on skeletal integrity.
