Purpose: Acromegaly is closely related to increased oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction (ED). This study aimed to evaluate, for the first time in the literature, signal peptide-CUB-EGF domain-containing protein 1 (SCUBE-1) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase e(NOS) levels in the setting of acromegaly.

Method: A total of 56 acromegaly patients and a control group composed of 30 healthy volunteers were included in this study.

This study aimed to compare "non-treated" versus "levotriiodothyronine (LT3)-treated" protocols of short-term hypothyroidism induction prior to radioactive iodine (RAI) ablation therapy in differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). A total of 120 DTC patients who had thyroxine withdrawal either via 4-week hypothyroidism induction (non-treated group, n=60) or 2-week administration and then 2-week withdrawal of LT3 (LT3-treated group, n=60) to induce hypothyroid state prior to RAI ablation after initial surgery were included. Complications related to hypothyroidism-induction, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Hospital Anxiety-Depression Scale (HADS), and SF-36 health-related quality of life (HRQoL) scores were recorded.

Purpose: To evaluate the image quality and tumor morphology depiction ability of high resolution (HR) diffusion- weighted imaging (f-DWI) in comparison to conventional DWI (c-DWI) and dynamic contrast- enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) in the primary breast cancer setting.

Methods: The f-DWI, c-DWI, and DCE-MRIs of 160 malignant breast masses were evaluated retrospectively by two independent radiologists. Data on image quality [sharpness, distortion, and perceived signalto- noise ratio (SNR)], apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value, lesion size, and tumor morphology (shape, margin, and internal pattern) obtained on f-DWI, c-DWI, and DCE-MRI were compared.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of Fibrinopeptide A (FPA) in patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS), which is linked to high mortality rates and caused by atherosclerosis and blood clot formation.
  • The research involved comparing serum FPA levels in 107 ACS patients and 69 patients with chronic coronary syndrome, revealing that ACS patients were older, more likely to be male, and had higher rates of hypertension and smoking.
  • Findings show that elevated serum FPA levels, particularly above 3.38 ng/mL, can effectively indicate ACS and suggest the need for more aggressive antithrombotic treatment options.

Mol Imaging Radionucl Ther

February 2023

Dr. Abdurrahman Yurtaslan Training and Research Hospital, Clinic of Medical Oncology, Ankara, Turkey.

Internal herniation may be seen more frequently in patients with intra-abdominal surgery and malignancy history. We presented a 58-year-old male patient diagnosed with rectal adenocarcinoma seven years ago with a history of surgery and pelvic radiotherapy. When the abdominal computed tomography (CT) image was taken during routine oncology follow-up, a lesion mimicking a serosal implant on the anterior abdominal wall was detected.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the relationship between epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) thickness and hypertensive retinopathy, highlighting the role of EAT in endothelial dysfunction and inflammation.
  • Out of 73 newly diagnosed hypertensive patients, 37% showed signs of retinopathy, and those with retinopathy had greater EAT thickness and higher LDL cholesterol levels compared to those without.
  • The findings suggest that both EAT thickness and LDL cholesterol are independent predictors of retinopathy in hypertensive patients, indicating a potential marker for monitoring eye health in these individuals.
