Article Synopsis
  • Ustekinumab is approved for treating ulcerative colitis (UC), and this study evaluated its long-term effectiveness and tolerability in real clinical settings.
  • In a multicenter analysis of 620 UC patients, 25% discontinued treatment, with baseline anemia, steroid use, and severe disease linked to higher discontinuation rates.
  • At 16 weeks, 40% of patients were in steroid-free remission, and treatment was generally safe with no adverse effects on other conditions, indicating good long-term durability for difficult-to-treat cases.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causes virus-induced-senescence. There is an association between shorter telomere length (TL) in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients and hospitalization, severity, or even death. However, it remains unknown whether virus-induced-senescence is reversible.

Traumatic brain injury extending to the striatum alters autonomic thermoregulation and hypothalamic monoamines in recovering rats.

Front Neurosci

December 2023

Neurociencias Básicas, Instituto Nacional de Rehabilitación Luis Guillermo Ibarra Ibarra (LGII), SSa, Ciudad de México, Mexico.

The brain cortex is the structure that is typically injured in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and is anatomically connected with other brain regions, including the striatum and hypothalamus, which are associated in part with motor function and the regulation of body temperature, respectively. We investigated whether a TBI extending to the striatum could affect peripheral and core temperatures as an indicator of autonomic thermoregulatory function. Moreover, it is unknown whether thermal modulation is accompanied by hypothalamic and cortical monoamine changes in rats with motor function recovery.

Objective: Single nucleotide variants have been implicated in the response to fertility treatment and a pharmacogenomic approach may help to customize therapy based on patient genome. We aimed to evaluate the effect, individual and combined, of SYCP2L (rs2153157:G>A) and TDRD3 (rs4886238:G>A) variants on ovarian reserve, response to controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) and reproductive outcomes of women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment.

Methods: This cross-sectional study included 149 normoovulatory women undergoing IVF.

Spine pain is a highly prevalent condition affecting over 11% of the world's population. It is the single leading cause of activity limitation and ranks fourth in years lost to disability globally, representing a significant personal, social, and economic burden. For the vast majority of patients with back and neck pain, a specific pathology cannot be identified as the cause for their pain, which is then labeled as non-specific.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been associated with increased uncertainty, fear and worry in everyone's life. The effect of changes in daily life has been studied widely, but we do not know how emotion-regulation strategies influence adaptation to a new situation to help them overcome worry in the face of uncertainty. Here, 1,064 self-selected Farsi speaking participants completed an online battery of questionnaires that measured fear of virus and illness, worry, intolerance of uncertainty, and emotion regulation (two subscales: reappraisal, suppression).
