Appendectomy is still the best treatment for acute appendicitis in pediatric patients. Given the problems of early and immediate diagnosis of acute appendicitis, defining the best diagnostic protocol for this condition is of utmost importance. Different diagnostic methods, such as Lintula and appendicitis inflammatory response (AIR) scoring systems, are used for this purpose.

This study investigated the immunochemical characterization of Privet pollen extract and the occurrence of skin prick test reactivity to Privet and other allergenic pollen grains in allergic rhinitis patients. All subjects experienced a skin prick test with twenty-two allergen extracts.

Recalcitrant Cutaneous Warts in a Family with Inherited ICOS Deficiency.

Recalcitrant warts, caused by human papillomaviruses (HPVs), can be a cutaneous manifestation of inborn error of immunity. This study investigated the clinical manifestations, immunodeficiency, single-gene susceptibility, and HPV repertoire in a consanguineous family with severe sinopulmonary infections and recalcitrant warts. Clinical and immunologic evaluations, including FACS and lymphocyte transformation test, provided evidence for immunodeficiency.

This study review the prevalence of selenium deficiency after bariatric surgery, incidence, and symptoms. A systematic literature search and meta-analysis was performed in PubMed and Scopus for articles published by November 1, 2021, including the keywords "Roux-en Y gastric bypass", "RYGB", "Omega bypass", "Mini bypass", "One anastomosis gastric bypass", "Bariatric surgery", "Weight loss surgery", "Metabolic surgery", "Gastric bypass", "Loop gastric bypass", "Selenium", "Selenium deficiency", or a combination of aimed tothem in the title or abstract. In this review, nine studies examining a total of 1174 patients were included in this meta-analysis.

In total, 27 primary studies comprising 648 subjects were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis.

Asthma induces psychiatric impairments in association with default mode and salience networks alteration: A resting-state EEG study.

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease associated with a high prevalence of psychiatric disorders. There are specific brain networks responsible for emotional processes, including two important networks associated with psychiatric problems: the default mode network (DMN), which is more active in the resting state, and the salience network (SN), which is structurally connected to DMN. Although previous studies suggested that neuro-phenotypes of asthma may be recognizable by the neural activity of brain circuits, an association between the brain's functional alterations and psychiatric impairments induced by asthma remains unknown.

Full duodenal rupture after direct abdominal trauma in soccer: a case report of an elite soccer player with follow up and return to play protocol.

Severe traumatic abdominal injuries and duodenal ruptures are relatively rare in soccer and can be easily missed and turn into a life-threatening condition. All team physicians need to be familiar with the warning sign in these situations. This report aims to report a case, discuss the diagnostic and treatment process and the return to play protocol.

The first survey addressing patients with BMI over 50: a survey of 789 bariatric surgeons.

Background: Bariatric surgery in patients with BMI over 50 kg/m is a challenging task. The aim of this study was to address main issues regarding perioperative management of these patients by using a worldwide survey.

Methods: An online 48-item questionnaire-based survey on perioperative management of patients with a BMI superior to 50 kg/m was ideated by 15 bariatric surgeons from 9 different countries.

IL1RL1 single nucleotide polymorphisms are associated with asthma in the Iranian population.

Asthma is a chronic and multifactorial disease which is known to result from environmental and genetic factors. Interleukin 1 receptor-like 1 (IL1RL1) is a receptor, which promotes inflammatory responses after binding to its ligand IL-33. Several studies have shown that IL1RL1 gene polymorphisms are related to susceptibility or protection to asthma.

Simultaneous Occurrence of Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis and Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura in a Patient with a History of COVID-19 Infection.

Since the emergence of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, multiple but rare complications of this infection have been described, comprising cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) and immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). Although these two complications have been reported as separate entities, to the best of our knowledge, their concurrent presentation has not been reported. In this case report, we present a middle-aged man with a history of COVID-19 infection who developed a sudden-onset severe occipital headache followed by right-sided blindness (right homonymous hemianopia).

Religious Fasting of Muslim Patients After Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery: a Modified Delphi Consensus.

Background: Fasting during Ramadan is one of the five pillars of the Muslim faith. Despite the positive effects of fasting on health, there are no guidelines or clear recommendations regarding fasting after metabolic/bariatric surgery (MBS). The current study reports the result of a modified Delphi consensus among expert metabolic/bariatric surgeons with experience in managing patients who fast after MBS.

Bariatric surgery in transplant recipients: A narrative review.

Morbidity and mortality rates are increased due to obesity after organ transplantation; in this regards, bariatric surgery (BS) is believed to be an effective treatment for posttransplant obese patients. Nevertheless, some studies are doubtful in terms of the effectiveness of BS, the most suitable bariatric procedure, and management of immunosuppressant drugs in some kinds of organ transplants. We evaluated nonsurgical therapies, weight reduction, adjustment of immunosuppressants, comorbidities, and the recommended surgical procedures for posttransplant BS for different types of organ transplantations.
