Real-life scenario blended teaching approach for nurturing inquisitive learning of central nervous system in medical students.

Among the various systems taught in the preclinical phases, the nervous system is more challenging to learn than other systems. In this report, a novel teaching methodology, "real-life scenario (RLS) blended teaching," is described and its effectiveness in facilitating inquisitive learning in undergraduate medical students is evaluated. This mixed-method study was conducted among three groups (, = 83; , = 85; and ; = 79) of undergraduate medical students (18-20 yr) in the neurology and behavioral sciences module.

Social prescribing programmes are being widely promoted within the United Kingdom (UK) and United States as non-pharmaceutical interventions for those living with addiction and substance misuse needs. These needs have been exasperated by the recent COVID-19 pandemic and global economic crisis, with emerging research indicating short-term and long-term detrimental effects on physical and mental health due to substance misuse and addictions.

Background: Severe leptospirosis is challenging as it could evolve rapidly and potentially fatal if appropriate management is not performed. An understanding of the progression and pathophysiology of Leptospira infection is important to determine the early changes that could be potentially used to predict the severe occurrence of leptospirosis. This study aimed to understand the kinetics pathogenesis of Leptospira interrogans strain HP358 in the hamster model and identify the early parameters that could be used as biomarkers to predict severe leptospirosis.

Evaluation of Drug-Related Problems in Chronic Kidney Disease Patients.

Background Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a challenging global health problem with increasing prevalence worldwide. Concurrence of CKD and comorbidities results in the use of multiple medications and exposing patients to polypharmacy. Polypharmacy in CKD is common across all the stages of the disease and leads to poor medication adherence, higher healthcare costs, and drug-related problems, such as drug-drug interactions (DDIs) and adverse drug reactions (ADRs).

A narrative inquiry into the resettlement of armed forces personnel in the Arabian Gulf: a model for successful transition and positive mental well-being.

The study sought to explore the lived experiences of individuals having served in the Armed Forces of Saudi Arabia, as they made the transition to civilian life and sought new employment opportunities.     Researchers carried out qualitative research in the form of narrative inquiry. Narratives were collected from eleven in-depth interviews conducted in Saudi Arabia in 2021, allowed for insight into participant experiences.

Appraisal of a novel pedagogical approach to demonstrating neuromuscular transmission to medical students.

Although traditional didactic lecturing is the principal instructional approach used in numerous medical schools, this method has several limitations. Experiential learning approaches place students in the center of the learning process and creates a positive and supportive classroom learning environment. In this article, we propose an active pedagogical approach for teaching a basic physiology concept, namely, neuromuscular transmission (NMT), and we evaluate the effectiveness of this approach among undergraduate medical students.

Teaching of the repair of defective composite restorations in Middle Eastern and North African Dental Schools.

Objectives: To evaluate the status of teaching of repair of defective resin-based composite restorations in dental schools in the Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) countries.

Methods: A validated 14-item questionnaire was mailed to the directors of the operative/restorative dentistry department in 40 MENA dental schools. Data were collected on teaching, including whether the repair of resin-based composite restorations was part of the dental school curriculum; the rationale behind the teaching; how techniques were taught, indications for repair, operative techniques, materials used, patient acceptability and expected longevity of the repair procedure.

COVID-19 in pregnancy: the foetal perspective-a systematic review.

Objective: We aimed to conduct a systematic review of the available literature to determine the effects of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in pregnant women from the foetal perspective by estimation of mother to child transmission, perinatal outcome and possible teratogenicity.

Methods: Data sources: eligible studies between 1 November 2019 and 10 August 2020 were retrieved from PubMed, Embase, LitCovid, Google Scholar, EBSCO MEDLINE, CENTRAL, CINAHL, MedRXiv, BioRXiv and Scopus collection databases. English language case reports, case series and cohort studies of SARS-CoV-2 confirmed pregnant women with data on perinatal outcome, congenital anomalies and mother to child transmission were analysed.

The effect of surface pre-reacted glass-ionomer filler eluate on dental pulp cells and mineral deposition on dentin: In vitro study.

The effects of surface pre-reacted glass-ionomer (S-PRG) filler on pulpal cells and on the composition of dentinal deposits were investigated. Proliferation (CCK-8), cytotoxicity (LDH), and differentiation activity (ALP) tests, along with cell morphology observations, were conducted at 6 and 24 h after treatment of pulpal cells with different S-PRG filler eluate concentrations. Dentinal surfaces were immersed in deionized water or S-PRG filler eluate followed by immersion in deionized water or simulated body fluid and observed under scanning electron microscope and elemental analysis using energy dispersive x-ray spectrometer.

Impact of computerised physician order entry (CPOE) on the incidence of chemotherapy-related medication errors: a systematic review.

Purpose: Computerised prescriber (or physician) order entry (CPOE) implementation is one of the strategies to reduce medication errors. The extent to which CPOE influences the incidence of chemotherapy-related medication errors (CMEs) was not previously collated and systematically reviewed. Hence, this study was designed to collect, collate, and systematically review studies to evaluate the effect of CPOE on the incidence of CMEs.

Objective: Primary cardiac sarcoma, a rare tumor with an aggressive course and imprecise prognosis, constitutes over 95% of all malignant cardiac tumors. Given the sparsely available evidence, there is a paucity of information regarding current knowledge on cardiac sarcoma. This study aimed to determine the incidence and incidence-based rates, patient characteristics, treatment modalities, and survival factors of cardiac sarcoma.

The Hormetic Effect of Arsenic Trioxide on Rat Pulpal Cells: An In Vitro Preliminary Study.

Objectives:  Despite the agreement that there is no longer any indication for arsenic use in modern endodontics, some concerns are surfacing about the minute amount of arsenic trioxide (AsO) released from Portland cement-based materials. The present study investigated the effect of different concentrations of AsO on rat pulpal cells and the efficacy of -acetylcysteine (NAC) in preventing AsO-mediated toxicity.

Materials And Methods:  Cytotoxicities of 50, 10, or 5 µm AsO and the effect of cells co-treatment with 50 µm AsO and 5,000 µm NAC or 500 µm NAC were tested at 24 hours or 3 days.

Objective: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a vasoproliferative disorder that is one of the main preventable causes of blindness among preterm neonates. This study aimed to determine the incidence of ROP and investigate the relationship between perinatal risk factors and ROP development.

Methods: This retrospective, non-interventional, non-comparative, hospital-based study was conducted at a tertiary-level neonatal intensive care unit.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are postulated to play significant role in the pathogenesis, progression as well as drug resistance of breast cancer. Nucleostemin (NS) is thought to be a key molecule for stemness, and the clinical impact of NS immunoreactivity in breast cancer can indicate its actual role and future therapeutic potentials.The current study is an observational study with an attempt to evaluate the correlation between NS expression (protein and gene expression levels) and different clinicopathological attributes of invasive breast cancer.

Beliefs and reality of e-cigarette smoking.

In this global health case study, we describe a case of nicotine addiction due to chronic use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarette) and discuss the beliefs on safety and awareness of their side effects. Many people believe that smoking an e-cigarette (vaping) does not have any side effects, especially among teenagers and young adults. Teenagers using an e-cigarette at a young age are twice as likely to try cigarettes later in their life because of nicotine dependency or other social factors.

Neuroprotective Role of -acetylcysteine against Learning Deficits and Altered Brain Neurotransmitters in Rat Pups Subjected to Prenatal Stress.

Prenatal adversaries like stress are known to harm the progeny and oxidative stress, which is known to be one of the causative factors. -acetyl cysteine (NAC), which is a potent antioxidant, has been shown to play a neuroprotective role in humans and experimental animals. This study examines the benefits of NAC on the prenatal stress-induced learning and memory deficits and alteration in brain neurotransmitter in rat pups.
