Background: In the last few decades, surgical techniques have been developed in thoracic surgery, and minimally invasive strategies such as multi-and uniportal video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) have become more favorable even for major pulmonary resections. With this surgical evolution, the aesthetic approach has also changed, and a paradigm shift has occurred. The traditional conception of general anesthesia, muscle relaxation, and intubation has been re-evaluated, and spontaneous breathing plays a central role in our practice by performing non-intubated thoracoscopic surgeries (NITS-VATS).

A Randomized, double-blind, dose ranging clinical trial of intravenous FDY-5301 in acute STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI.

Int J Cardiol

January 2022

Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, British Heart Foundation Centre of Research Excellence, National Institute for Health (NIHR) Oxford Biomedical Research Centre, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and University of Oxford, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK. Electronic address:

Background: Ischemia-reperfusion injury remains a major clinical problem in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), leading to myocardial damage despite early reperfusion by primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI). There are no effective therapies to limit ischemia-reperfusion injury, which is caused by multiple pathways activated by rapid tissue reoxygenation and the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). FDY-5301 contains sodium iodide, a ubiquitous inorganic halide and elemental reducing agent that can act as a catalytic anti-peroxidant.

The presence of a persistent median artery (PMA) has been implicated in the development of compression neuropathies and surgical complications. Due to the large variability in the prevalence of the PMA and its subtypes in the literature, more awareness of its anatomy is needed. The aim of our meta-analysis was to find the pooled prevalence of the antebrachial and palmar persistent median arteries.

High-grade gliomas (HGGs), the most common and aggressive primary brain tumors in adults, inevitably recur due to incomplete surgery or resistance to therapy. Intratumoral genomic and cellular heterogeneity of HGGs contributes to therapeutic resistance, recurrence, and poor clinical outcomes. Transcriptomic profiles of HGGs at recurrence have not been investigated in detail.

Anti-tumour therapies eliminate proliferating tumour cells by induction of DNA damage, but genomic aberrations or transcriptional deregulation may limit responses to therapy. Glioblastoma (GBM) is a malignant brain tumour, which recurs inevitably due to chemo- and radio-resistance. Human RecQ helicases participate in DNA repair, responses to DNA damage and replication stress.

Advantages and Disadvantages of the Use of Various Types of Interbody Implants in Cervical Spine Surgery. Critical Review of the Literature.

Ortop Traumatol Rehabil

August 2020

Szpital św. Rafała w Krakowie, Polska / St. Raphael Hospital in Cracow, Poland Oddział Kliniczny Ortopedii i Traumatologii Narządu Ruchu z Pododdziałem Chirurgii Kręgosłupa. Scanmed / Department of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Traumatology, with Spinal Surgery Ward. Scanmed.

Background: Most cervical spine procedures in patients with degenerative disc disease involve discectomy and remo-val of osteophytes in posterior vertebral body surfaces followed by interbody stabilisation with an interbody implant. Interbody implants are made of a variety of materials, differing in structural design, shape and surface topography. Considering that fusion between the implant and host bone is crucial for long-term positive outcomes, the choice of an appropriate implant is significantly important clinically and continues to be an important area of study.

Optical coherence tomography versus intravascular ultrasound for culprit lesion assessment in patients with acute myocardial infarction.

Postepy Kardiol Interwencyjnej

June 2020

Department of Interventional Cardiology, Jagiellonian University Medical College, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Cardiology, John Paul II Hospital, Krakow, Poland.

Introduction: In patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) the implanted stent may not fully cover the whole intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)-derived thin-cap fibroatheroma (TCFA) related to the culprit lesion (CL).

Aim: Whether this phenomenon is more pronounced when optical coherence tomography (OCT) assessment of the CL is performed is not known.

Material And Methods: Thus, we aimed to assess CLs in 40 patients with AMI treated with PCI, using VH (virtual histology)-IVUS and OCT before and after intervention.

Cushing syndrome (CS) is rare in pregnancy, and few cases have been reported to date. Women with untreated CS rarely become pregnant because of the ovulatory dysfunction induced by hypercortisolism. It is difficult to diagnose CS in pregnancy because of its very low incidence, the overlap between the clinical signs of hypercortisolism and the physiological changes that occur during pregnancy and the changes in hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis activity that occur during pregnancy and limit the value of standard diagnostic testing.
