The maintenance of lipid asymmetry on the plasma membrane is regulated by flippases, such as ATP8A2, ATP11A, and ATP11C, which translocate phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylethanolamine from the outer leaflet to the inner leaflet. We previously identified a patient-derived point mutation (Q84E) in ATP11A at the phospholipid entry site, which acquired the ability to flip phosphatidylcholine (PtdCho). This mutation led to elevated levels of sphingomyelin (SM) in the outer leaflet of the plasma membrane.

This study investigated the effects of ascochlorin (ASC), a natural compound derived from the fungus , on adipogenesis and obesity. We determined the effects of ASC on 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and whether it ameliorated to mitigate high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity in C57BL/6J mice. We found that ASC significantly inhibited the differentiation of preadipocytes by modulating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, a key regulator of adipogenic processes.

Background: Implant subsidence is recognized as a complication of interbody stabilization, although its relevance remains ambiguous, particularly in terms of relating the effect of the position and depth of subsidence on the clinical outcome of the procedure. This study aimed to evaluate how implant positioning and size influence the incidence and degree of subsidence and to examine their implications for clinical outcomes.
Methods: An observational study of 94 patients (157 levels) who underwent ACDF was conducted.

Alcohol addiction is characterized by extensive alcohol consumption that dominates other behaviours previously important to a patient. According to data from The State Agency for Prevention of Alcohol-Related Problems, up to 900,000 people in Poland are addicted to alcohol. On average, approximately 9.

We aim to present our linear accelerator-based workflow for pancreatic stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) in order to address the following issues: intrafractional organ motion management, Cone Beam CT (CBCT) image quality, residual errors with dosimetric consequences, treatment time, and clinical results. Between 2016 and 2021, 14 patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer were treated with induction chemotherapy and SABR using volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT). Internal target volume (ITV) concept (5), phase-gated (4), or breath hold (5) techniques were used.

Degenerative disease of the cervical spine leads to sagittal imbalance, which may affect treatment results. The purpose of this study was to evaluate changes in selected cervical sagittal balance parameters and their effects on subsidence and clinical outcomes of the procedure. This study encompassed a total of 95 evaluated patients who underwent anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF).

Treatment for degenerative disc disease of the cervical spine primarily aims to decompress neural structures and preserve the former height of the disc space and foramina. Popular methods include anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) using cages with plates or without plates (standalone cages). However, it is still debatable whether a plate is necessary for enhanced treatment outcomes.

Introduction: Spondyloptosis, characterized by complete slippage of the upper vertebral body relative to the lower vertebral body, is an exceedingly rare condition. Typically, it occurs as a result of a high-energy injury and is promptly managed. It is uncommon for a patient to present to a spinal surgery unit several decades after the initial incident.

The arc of Buhler (AOB) is a direct anastomosis of the celiac axis and superior mesenteric artery. This paper reviews the literature on the AOB and provides accurate and up-to-date data on its prevalence, anatomy, and clinical significance. The main scholarly online databases were carefully searched for relevant studies related to the AOB.

Background: Guidelines endorse self-reported functional capacity for preoperative cardiovascular assessment, although evidence for its predictive value is inconsistent. We hypothesised that self-reported effort tolerance improves prediction of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) after noncardiac surgery.
Methods: This is an international prospective cohort study (June 2017 to April 2020) in patients undergoing elective noncardiac surgery at elevated cardiovascular risk.

Quantitative analysis of the trace element content of human intervertebral discs (IVDs) is essential because it can identify specific enzymes or metabolites that may be related to human intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD). The goal of this study was to assess the concentrations of copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), sodium (Na), magnesium (Mg), potassium (K), phosphorus (P), and calcium (Ca) in serum samples obtained from patients with IVDD in comparison to healthy volunteers (a control group). The study group consisted of 113 Caucasian patients qualified by a specialist neurosurgeon for microdiscectomy.

Purpose: This paper sets out to analyse mobility changes in segments adjacent to the operated segment. Additionally, it investigates the relationship between the degree of fusion in the operated disc space and mobility changes in the adjacent segments.
Methods: In total, 170 disc spaces were operated on in 104 consecutive patients qualified for one- or two-level surgery.

Glioblastomas (GBM) are the most common, primary brain tumors in adults. Despite advances in neurosurgery and radio- and chemotherapy, the median survival of GBM patients is 15 months. Recent large-scale genomic, transcriptomic and epigenetic analyses have shown the cellular and molecular heterogeneity of GBMs, which hampers the outcomes of standard therapies.

Introduction: Metabolic surgery is a more effective manner to manage weight loss for morbidly obese patients than conservative therapy. There are many surgical and endoscopic modalities to choose which represents a real challenge for bariatric surgeons. LGCP is a restrictive procedure, the greater curvature of stomach is folded into the gastric lumen in one or two layers.
