Objectives: Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is an innovative therapy indicated for the treatment of recurrent Clostridioides difficile infections. Although CDI and its complications are more common in very old patients (≥80 years) due to their comorbidities, frailty and senescence of the immune system, limited data are available for this older patient population.
Design: This was a single-center, real-life cohort study with retrospective outcome data registration, conducted at Toulouse, France.
Objective: To describe mid-term outcomes of the use of EndoAnchors as an adjunct for arch and thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR).
Methods: A retrospective multicentre series from nine centres using the Heli-FX EndoAnchor System (Medtronic Inc, Minneapolis, USA) at TEVAR over May 2014-May 2019 is presented. The study is registered at ClinicalTrials.

To assess whether anthropometric measures (body mass index [BMI], waist-hip ratio [WHR], and estimated fat mass [EFM]) are independently associated with major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), and to assess their added prognostic value compared with serum total-cholesterol. The study population comprised 109,509 individuals (53% men) from the MORGAM-Project, aged 19-97 years, without established cardiovascular disease, and not on antihypertensive treatment. While BMI was reported in all, WHR and EFM were reported in ∼52,000 participants.

Spontaneous clearance of acute hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is associated with single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on the MHC class II. We fine-mapped the MHC region in European (n = 1,600; 594 HCV clearance/1,006 HCV persistence) and African (n = 1,869; 340 HCV clearance/1,529 HCV persistence) ancestry individuals and evaluated HCV peptide binding affinity of classical alleles. In both populations, HLA-DQβ1Leu26 (p value = 1.

The clinical deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) applications in medical imaging is perhaps the greatest challenge facing radiology in the next decade. One of the main obstacles to the incorporation of automated AI-based decision-making tools in medicine is the failure of models to generalize when deployed across institutions with heterogeneous populations and imaging protocols. The most well-understood pitfall in developing these AI models is overfitting, which has, in part, been overcome by optimizing training protocols.

Background: Historical cohorts have shown extent of coronary artery disease to be a predictor of poorer outcomes in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. However, contemporary data in the era of reperfusion and modern secondary prevention therapy are lacking.
Aim: To compare 3-year survival in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction with multivessel disease versus those with single-vessel disease.

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), which include Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, are multifactorial diseases that involve in particular a modification of the gut microbiota, known as dysbiosis. The initial sets of metataxonomic and metagenomic data first made it possible to approximate the microbiota profile in IBD. In addition, today the new 'omics' techniques have enabled us to draw up a functional and integrative map of the microbiota.

Aim: We attempted to describe the risk of heart failure (HF) occurrence according to diabetes mellitus (DM) status in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) over time, from acute myocardial infarction (MI) to the chronic stable phase.
Methods: For the acute and subacute MI phases, we analysed the FAST-MI cohort restricted to patients without history of HF (n = 12,473). The analysis on 1-year outcomes after MI was further restricted to patients who were discharged alive and without history of HF and/or HF symptoms during the index hospitalisation for MI (n = 9181).

Since the publication of the Framingham Heart Study, which suggested that uric acid should no longer be associated with coronary heart disease after additional adjustment for cardiovascular disease risk factors, the number of publications challenging this statement has dramatically increased. The aim of this paper was to review and discuss the most recent studies addressing the possible relation between sustained elevated serum uric acid levels and the onset or worsening of cardiovascular and renal diseases. Original studies involving American teenagers clearly showed that serum uric acid levels were directly correlated with systolic and diastolic pressures, which has been confirmed in adult cohorts revealing a 2.

Several international guidelines concerning lower extremity arterial disease (LEAD) have been published recently, in particular, by the American Heart Association the European Society of Cardiology/European Society for Vascular Surgery, the European Society for Vascular Medicine and the Society for Vascular Surgery. These guidelines differ in some respects and certain issues are not addressed. The objective of this consensus driven by the French Societies of vascular Medicine and surgery was to analyze the disparities between the different guidelines, as well as certain issues not covered, and develop proposals with regard to these points.

The incidence of disorders associated with low inflammatory state, such as chronic kidney disease, increases in the elderly. The accumulation of senescent cells during aging and the senescence-associated secretory phenotype, which leads to inflammaging, is known to be deleterious and account for progressive organ dysfunction. To date, the cellular actors implicated in chronic inflammation in the kidney during aging are still not well characterized.
